I love this mans philosophy and perspective. He is an honorable man despite being a poor father to his sons.

I think he has more in common with Walt Disney than people realize; just like Disney, Miyazaki can alternate between being gentle and expansive, and being an outright tyrant to his animators. And just like Disney, he's unwilling to cede his leadership role to anyone else, which makes me fear for the future of Ghibli when he's gone.

I'm a huge fan of his work, despite some of his ideas being incorrect. He's an interesting man for sure.

I've never seen any of his films, and yet, as a connoisseur of animation, regardless of whatever flaws he has, I consider this man as an artist. I very much agree with him in the sense that we must not talk down to kids. If one wants to properly teach children, it is important to not hide them from reality. This is why I'm obsessed with Pixar films, and even Thomas the Tank Engine, because their respective creators know better than to pull punches.

You can't call yourself a connoisseur of animation while NEVER having watched a Miyazaki film lol. You got some homework dude

I don't know...I think there's now a tendency to over-analyze Ghibli anime and Miyazaki Hayao himself. I liked it better when I watched his works without knowing much about the philosophies behind them.

Super interesting documentary, thank you !
Love the movies but working at Ghibli studios seems a lot like being seduced into the gingerbread house of Hansel and Gretel.
Miyazaki is a genius but it seems to be at the cost of those around him sometimes which is sad.
In his hate for tyranny he is risking his studio to be a source of it.
I wonder how many great talents and future geniuses quit due to it?

Miyazaki told in the video that he is not an environmentalist. Still, you some seconds later called him an environmentalist and then proceeded to call him a feminist (which he is not), and then implied that he is some Japanese Marxist, which he is not. You clearly are a Marxist, feminist, and environmentalist and are trying to put those labels on a man that dislikes such labels. If you want to build a channel around biographies, you must be precise and let yourself out of the equation. I would recommend that you delete this video and rewrite the text, being true to the nature of Miyazaki's character. He dislikes all Western ideologies, and labels, and stated that on numerous occasions.

Aren't you yourself trying to make Miyazaki into something like your own ideological image, which has nothing to do with him and his beliefs?

Go watch their hour-long Miyazaki documentary. Don't forget to come back so you can delete this comment and rewrite the text.

He grew up seeing many of his female friends and family lacking opportunities that he had which is a direct reason he uses them as protagonist a lot and makes them strong, his words not mine. That is literally feminism my friend. He also became a Marxist in his younger days and though ultimately he decided no one ideology is going to stop bad people from being bad and good people from being good he clearly still holds some of those beliefs. Lastly, he has spoken on his concern with the environment and how important the conservation of nature is though Idk if he has actually done anything to help or donate money but I would wager he has. Not sure why i wasted my time telling you this but have a good day.

I'm sure Miyazaki have not experienced the 2023 female experience as a man😂😂.

To be fair, he's the product of a society very different to 202x western society. East Asia still has the exact opposite problem, with women and children still treated like expendable cattle.
