Using the PLL 1 watt transmitter to drive.
Welcome back to another Kit build this time an Amplifier. I’ve not had much experience with these but all built up ok and worked fine.. considering I’m not an RF engineer not a bad job.
NOTE :
The one thing that I learnt after the making of this video is the adjustment of the Bias, It needs to be set to 2.6Volts. This is done once the PCB is built and powered with your 48volts, without the MRF101 installed. Will show it on the next video before it all goes into a box... hopefully once that is done we should see 120 watts of power...

Remember in the UK you need a license to Broadcast, No Broadcasting laws was broken in the making of this video, A dummy load was used..
A bit of Music was changed to a copyright clam. Even after I made sure that i did not you copyrighted music. you will know where it is because the music goes loud. What a shame

Incredible gain from that MRF101. and unusual to see a vhf amplifier transistor in a TO220 package
Yes a very good Transistor is the MRF101, doesn’t get that hot ether..

You need to look at the output with a spectrum analyzer to check for harmonics and spurious frequencies. Chinese kits like that are notorious for that.
Hello Bill, yes your right you do need a spectrum analyser. Sadly I can’t afford, it’s just a little hobby for me...

I don’t know how to tune and where do you measure it ?
Set the bias to 2.6v without the mrf101 fitted and it’s set… see my other videos as it is shown 👍

Hey this is really cool I also love rigs, I was wondering if I could send you 1 I made and you can test it. Maybe mach it up to a rf amp I've always had trouble with rf amps. I've never had anyone to help me.
good job, would the MRF101AN give to use in the scheme of blf177? adjusting the polarization to 2.6v would it work?

I am aware that this video was posted quite long ago, but if by any chance you still have the schematic for this particular model RF Amplifier somewhere could you send it my way if i ask nicely? If not, i'd also greatly appreciate a similar model's schematic, i found this type of design quite neat, so if i could get a schematic of this sort i might be able to try to build it at home from custom parts because as far as i am aware this kit is no longer available. Hi Mate, Currently Building this project, how do i about adjusting the bias to 2.6v, I do recall the info on enigma saying adjust the bias to 120ma current (100ma for mrf101an and 20ma for the led). Can you help me on how to adjust the bias. I have not purchased the mrf101an yet you think i should just get the mrf300an and push 200w? Is it stable with the current circuit?
Hi there, 1st of all I would stick to the MRF101AN I’ve been trying the MRF300 it works 200watts + but not for long it suddenly loses all power... unplugged for a few mins then switch it back on and the power is back... something overheating? But it’s not the MRF300 and the power supply is not at fault... got me stumped... But the MRF101 is working great and sits at 120watts all day long....
As for the bias setting it’s very easy and I’m just making a video to show how it’s done... should be up end of the weekend... If you get the amp working with the MRF300AN please let me know... Good luck and thanks for watching...

Hi there yes it is, I’ve done it.. you get over 200 watts... with 2 watt drive.
Need 10amp power supply. Bias setting the same 2.6 volts 👍
Where did you get the heatsink? Or what are the measurements of the circuit board and heatsink? Thank you....

I’m away at the moment will check and let you know once I’m back.... maybe a week or two.. from the top of my head I think it was around 4 amps.

All depends how high you have your aerial.. this would go for miles and miles with the aerial high up... 100watts output is a lot of power. 😉

Oh no not good. Must of had the bias setting to high or bad solder joint.
It c1971 or rd15hvf1. Only 15w RF output. 100w lie ,🤗
No lie 100 watts, used MRF101AN
1 watt input 100 watts out...
I’ve done it changing the 101 for a MRF300AN and you get 200 watts out with 2 watt drive.... build one you will see 💯
