Loved this video. As someone who takes my camera with me on dog walks/days out with my wife this is so helpful as I'm often shooting during mid-day lighting!

Enjoyed this, I notice most if not all of your edits in post are very subtle, nothing extreme and I think that style makes it easier with compositions, you see the image as is. Also you rarely take an image with a black and white conversion in mind, love you release a video on a Sunday morning, perfect time.

Sure looks like good calm times strolling around near waterfalls and mountains. Often there are such focus on getting that light (i do it as well) but there´s a lesson to be learned in that great photos can be made by the shadows aswell. Have a great week Nigel!

Terrific video Nigel. I shoot in Glen Sannox quite often but I wish I had your eye for composition. I'm going back sometime soon with your advice very much in mind. I live just a couple of miles round the coast from Kildonan. It's a fantastic depth of winter sunset location. Thanks for all of it. Very much appreciated.

Thank you for covering this subject. I recently traveled from Australia to your area on a holiday with only "chance time-frames" at any one place. Literally no opportunity to plan for light. It occurred to me then that there is an opportunity for UA-camers like yourself to cover working with any light. And how to do traveling photography working with any conditions.

This fine new video documents very fine, its not the weather, not the light, not the lens or the camera, its only the person behind the camera that produces exzellent fotos.

I've noticed that just before golden hour, the blue sky gets at its highest saturation if there is no clouds around at the oposite direction of the sunset. So it's possible to get a nice not too bright blue just before golden hour sometimes.

4:31 I seriously thought there was a cow laying on the ground behind Nigel, it was a pile of rocks.
    Nice iPhone wallpaper, Nigel. 😀
On a more serious note. There's a row of Moreton Bay Fig trees beside a road on Norfolk Island. They have huge buttress roots and are very photogenic. I unfortunately photographed them in the middle of the day a few months ago and they just look a bit meh. I'm hoping for some fog next time I'm there, or I'll just visit them early in the morning and spend a lot more time on them.

A quick note about midday sun if you don't mind Nigel.
There is a huge difference between summer midday light, and winter midday light.
Go far enough north and the golden hour lasts all day in the winter.
*Guess I should added far enough south in the southern hemisphere. 😉

Apart from all your usual brilliant hints and tips which are really helpful, i was curious about the iPhone app you were using to show the sunrise direction in your location. Which app is it please Nigel? It looked like it could be useful. Really like the style of your videos as ways to showcase fab landscapes and the helpful sharing on hints and tips.

I often take walks in the woods with my camera on sunny days. Recently I challenge myself to look at light differently, one of the things I was focusing on is high and low key images. I thought to myself, how can I find high and low key images in different settings, specifically in the woods on sunny days. I asked myself what would a high and low key image look like in the woods? With very speckled light I thought, oh, low key image. All I have to do is find an interesting subject that is highlighted by one of those rays of light coming through the woods. High key is more difficult I think

Great video again Nigel, loved the drone pic of the lighthouse. I took a lot in about what you said about waiting for a cloud to come over when shooting in the midday light. I tend to struggle with the dynamic range and harsh lighting. Oh, the link to your Rab Downpour pants doesn't work, error 404.
