  • This is the second part of a two part video on learning how to get set up properly for slow pitch jigging. In this video, we talk with Mike Lipski, owner of Reel Deal Tackle in Pompano Beach, about the process of selecting the right jigs for the depth of water you are fishing and species you are targeting. We also cover hook selection and how to rig your jigs. If you are ever in Pompano, make sure you swing by Mike's shop and ask to see the jig room. It's LIT! While we were in the shop Mike had a surprise visit from the Gale Force Twins. They do a lot of slow pitch jigging and were nice enough to offer some perspective on their experience with it. If you haven't checked out their channel they have a ton of great quality content that is very informative.

@@EdSki1970 yes of course, the Japanese invented the slow jigging thats why some of the jig are made from them specially the slow fall jig. You know there is a 3 types of jig? And each of them have purpose to work well in any water condition. If there is a current use fast jig, if there is no current use slow fall jig, if the current is not that strong use hybrid jig so it will depend how you play the hybrid to fast or slow and if the current is too high dont go fishing and stop complaining like a small kid.

The store owner is incorrect when he says the jigs were designed like that because there is no current in Japan! There is a strong current in Japan between High tide and low tide vis versa! I am in an area which has the 3rd fasted current in Japan! 16 knots at its fastest! Makes me wonder what else was he wrong about?

No mention of shock leaders and what knot to use tying to the braid.
Also, he's telling him to put a barrel swivel on every jig. What I do is to tie a barrel swivel onto my shock leader. That way I can change jigs with my split ring pliers instead of having to tie my leader onto different jigs.

@@fishbluewater yea seams the slow pitch isn't that effective om haddock unless you modify the approach and fish these jigs the Norwegian way or viking style and pound bottom I base that off 2 trips in the last 5 days I tried slow pitch style 4 fish the other day I fished it the old school way and took 11 using the slow pitch jig rod and jigs just the old school jigging style

@@fishingnh4543 Hello, I slow jig since over a year now for pollock, ling, haddock and other cold atlantic species - it works great! You just need to find the right jig and stay vertical over the jig, and fish a little bit less agressive than the guys in australian, japanese or other videos. When the pollock is feeding you can still fish pretty aggressive, some fish actually chase the jig up 10-15m until they bite, I had pollock even biting the jig after reeling it in very fast to reset the drift but it all depends on their mood.

Dude doesn't know what he's talking about regarding Japan not having current. Waters here in Japan have multiple layers of current due to extreme depths. Its common to be jigging in excess of 1k feet, which does prevent use of slower jigs, but the statement made is false.
