His job was to report the news, not to offer commentary or his “spin”. He took his job seriously and did it with dignity and took pride in providing the American People the facts-whatever opinions they formed based on those facts were between them and their own system of beliefs. The fact that we even have news networks that you watch depending on your political leanings speaks to the problem with the journalistic community today. Everyone- and I mean everyone-should look at this man and the men and women of his generation and learn a valuable lesson.
In my opinion, everything changed with the dawn of news 24/7. I am not criticizing CNN's political stance, but the fact that Ted Turner & Co. learned very quickly that there wasn't 24 hours worth of news that Americans wanted to know about. That's when we began getting commentary, which took a side. Today we get more commentary than news, it seems, and I, for one -- a career newspaper journalist now retired -- don't need to be told how to think. Just report the facts as Cronkite did, and I'll make up my own mind, thank you.
CBS Sunday Morning did a segment on ‘house staging’, in case you don’t know what that is, its were an empty house is dressed for sale by making it appear, lived in. Very much like what television viewers experience when watching a newscast, the producers take ordinary plain looking Janes and Joes, make them appear exciting, by adding facial make-up, hair dye, give them news copy, stage them before televison cameras, on a news room set, then tell them to read the copy, and if necessary, to act like a journalist…and if convincing, with increased viewer numbers, pay them a million bucks…
She didn't mention that in those days there were no commercial breaks because they didn't want the news to be swayed by any commercial interests. Boy, how times have changed.
Truth lol......Truth doesn't draw viewers anymore, people want A Narrative ! A Narrative that suits their needs...nobody's interested in Truth anymore, they just want their champion to win over the other guy, even if the other person is Right.
I grew up watching him, loved watching him. And I still watch CBS news. Actually CBS is about all I do watch
Beautiful tribute. In such hard times, it's good to be thrilled with such a beautiful history of life.

That's right. Time has changed today. What a man...

Great show
He was the man
Where are the Walter Cronkites of today; truth, in the media is wanting!
'The most trusted man in America'. I guess we are never gonna hear the phrase again...because 'that's the way it is'

Shame you didn't mention that he voiced Benjamin Franklin in Liberty Kids.

About the only broadcaster I could trust.
Roone Arledge

Whatever happened to objectivity? Today we have Fox News on one extreme and nearly everyone else on the other.
