Here is a video shared with me with a simple solution to the glare issue. I will do this ”fix” and give you my opinion. ua-cam.com/video/QvObt-MrPJA/v-deo.html Idea 💡 link here
Being able to pull that controller out of the case turning it on and being up in the air in less than a couple of minutes is all the reason I need to say this RC controller is awesome. I put a matte screen protector on mine and it's great.. the RC Pro controller is $1200 this one is $300 you're getting a lot for $300 in my opinion.
The difference between controllers is $150 not $300. Not having to use my phone, fumble around with it, draining the phone battery, not being able to answer a call, give access to DJI of every thing that is on my phone is worth more than the $150 difference. I think you are probable the lone ranger on this issue.
I get your intent...but at the end of the day, it is your opinion. Not the "Truth". I fly every day but I am not a cinemaphotographer or anything like that. For me, the convenience of the remote is great. Just add a mate anti-glare film on it and it is perfect for many things. Sure, If you want vibrant colors, go and buy the Triplex tablet (which I have thought about it). But it is not necessary if you only want to fly from point a to point b and then after post process your stuff. And you are not the only one that has noticed the issues with the RC Controller. Many folks have already addressed this and hopefully, DJI will come up with a better screen at a reasonable cost in the future. But to tell people NOT to buy this and use their phone (if they have one good enough) is disingenuous).
one that controller shoots in 720 p, 2 it has no internet connection, 3 you can't have apps on it, 4 you cant post to social media, 5 the batteries die out fast, 6 you cant color grade or use any apps on that control, 7 everyone is selling there,s its garbage, unlike me, I can live stream live to straight to Facebook with a ten inch iPod with internet to socile media in 4k
I am going to get so much hate mail, but the truth is hard to handle sometimes. Most who own the Mini Pro 3, me included, will deal with the issues as best we can. The drone itself is amazing. I like the old controllers better antenna location as well.
I didn’t get the combo with the DJI RC but tempted to get one. Using my phone when flying my Mini 3 Pro is not the best experience so far. I think it’s better I get the DJI RC.
There are screen protectors with anti glare available for the RC, the build in antennas don't work as well. DJI needs to make the Mini 3 compatible with the RC Pro!!!
@@DadRandom www.faa.gov/sites/faa.gov/files/uas/research_development/traffic_management//FY20_UPP2_Final_Report.pdf Page 48 The Broadcast Remote ID transmitter’s range was tested successfully out to a maximum visual range of 3,000 feet from the Remote ID receiver. There was some intermittent behavior, loss of signal, and significant latency at times. The range was tested by starting the UA as close as possible to the receiver at an altitude of 150 feet AGL. The UA was then flown outbound in 250 feet increments. The UA was stopped at each increment (time and range was noted) and the receiver’s reception was checked. The test stopped at 3,000 feet due to lack of visibility beyond of the UA after that point. The UA was flown back inbound using the same increments and performing the same checks. The RSSI-to-range measurements were also captured during these outbound and inbound flights. The average receive power was measured on the laptop over a 1-second period while stopped at increments. Figure 4-26 shows the RSSI-to-range measurements and compares the actual to the predicted values (estimated free-space path loss with the specifications from the system description).
This will be a divisive opinion. For example I've been flying self built freestyle kwads for around 4 years using FPV goggles. Recently I thought I'd get a mini 2..... drove me insane how little I could actually see on my phone+ipad sold it on. Tried again using a dronemask and a mini 3 Pro. Loved it. Best of both worlds. However a week or so later I bought the new rc controller. I've not flown it fpv since. For me, for my location, the 700nits has been brilliant
The first day I saw the RC I was like whoa it’s no where near as bright as people made it sound. It was a spring sunny day in NY and you needed shade to see it. Not sure why most say it’s “bright enough to see in direct sun light” … but that day when I saw the screen it didn’t seem to easy to see. I’m not sure what it was , but it didn’t seem like the perfect solution.
Was using my iPhone 12 Pro with my NC1 controller. But at summer it dimmed down that dark I can't fly anymore. I now better go with the DJI RC without huge issues. Of course the glare could be better. I now use a anti glare display cover that solved this issue.
Man, the extra dials and buttons on the RC is the best thing about it. I have hated using the new controller and app on the mavic 3, compared to the M2 and p4p controller and the Go 4 app. Being able to just pull the remote out and not fiddle around with my phone, and the extra control I can get using the buttons and dials is a game changer - both for the mini3 and the mavic 3.
I have the rcn1 that came with the mini 2 and the rc controller that come with the mavic 3. The advantage is you dont need your phone or tablet. Also you have 2 scroll wheels. For camera tilt and zooming. And 2 extra back customizable buttons. Screen on rc controller is just fine. I would suggest getting the rc controller cause it is just better.
Using the new DJI RC is still more convenient than using iphone for me. But thanks for sharing your insights! That’s how we’re going to get improved and better products in the future.
The controller is a leap forward, just not a bright enough screen. That’s really the fix. Drones are flown outside in the sun ☀️ Reflecting low light is also an issue many don’t consider.
Nailed it! Thanks man, saved me a buck. Have a few DJI’s and was wondering about glare and obviously, the screen has no anti-glare and low NIT for direct sunlight. Great words
@@DadRandom I wouldn't have put the screen protector on no matter what if it compromise the function. I have a Surface Pro 7 and the first thing I did on that device also was put a non reflective screensaver on it. I can literally sit on a park bench on a sunny day and read with it. I've been using non-reflective screen protectors on all of my devices for well over 10 years. I have an AIO computer with a touch screen that I bought over a decade and came with a matte finish on the display. It makes a huge difference because most of the time when I'm sitting in front of a shiny display, I'm looking at a reflection of myself. At 0:02 in your video, the opening shot looks like you're looking in a mirror. The first few flights I did before I put the non-reflective screen protector on the RC or actually somewhat dangerous because I couldn't see that well.
I’m not disagreeing with you because in certain insanely bright scenarios it is difficult.. however iPhones do auto dim in extreme light + heat to the point where flying is a huge pain in the ass. For me, I’m mostly liking it because it is consistent. I had problems with my iPhone a lot last summer in the heat. And thats in the UK (what a joke haha).
@@DadRandom That would be very nice of them. Don’t know if the current screen could do it or not, as I have assumed up to this point that one of the many cost reductions between this and the RC Pro is a cheaper screen. I’ve not suffered too bad so far and I do enjoy the RC and find it’s range etc to be absolutely fine, but yeah a bit more brightness wouldn’t go amiss for times that require it! Before this came out, I tried using a 2016 iPad Air with my Mavic 3 to see what would happen. I think it was about 5 seconds behind on every stick movement. 😆
I can’t fly my air 2s for more than 30 minutes without my iPhone 13 pro max dimming from overheating, that’s my frustration at the moment. So my interest with the DJI RC when it becomes compatible was to buy only because my Flagship iPhone sucks in hot weather. I’m fine with 700 nits brightness which is no different than my previous iPhone 11 which I regretfully upgraded believing 1000 nit brightness on the 13 pro max would be better.
Yesterday I was on the beach in Florida and under an umbrella I could see my iPhone perfectly well, but in the bright sun I couldn’t see the screen at all. What’s the brightness of the new phones, 1200 nits?
Hi Dad, Thanks for your honest up front opinion it makes a huge difference when trying to make an informative decision on what to buy. Many other honest reviews also mention the DJI RC has a very poor range considering they spruke 12Km and it barely reaches 1 before reception dies. Pity the DJI RC Pro isn't compatible , or is it? I know, it's 3 times the price but it sounds like a good RC. Cheers
It’s all about the pros and cons. I love the convenience of the RC and though it’s not perfect as you mentioned, I’m willing to sacrifice that. I also really like that the RC doesn’t dim as my iPhone would at times. As far as the connectivity, I’m experiencing about the same as I did on the mini 2. A lot depends on where you fly.
+Paul antennas located in the body, limited the strength potential of the antenna array. But the DJI RC was made for convenience. Mounting on bikes and put into back packs. I understand the concept. It’s a great move forward for the platform.
Thanks for sharing bro... I am glad you told us that!! I was thinking all the time same thing. I really love my N1 mini 2 controller + my Google Pixel 👍 Ps. Please be also aware that there are scammers on your channel trying to scam people...
I like it, flown it in all kinds of light; it falters in bright full sun but hey... for those conditions I have a custom built 8 square foot motorized suncore 50% shade rated awning attached to a carbon fiber motorized gantry arm attached to a modified body harness... ya right! This drone SOARS during the golden hours completely unaided for the most part, an 8 nd cpl is a nice kiss. End Edit: I agree with you, if you stick with the nr 1 contoller vs the new one, you eliminate a piece of kit, the weight, and everything else you need to go with it, and you save some cash for what you suggest.
I appreciate your video but I disagree, I have both the mini 2 and 3 as well as each controller(the one that came with the mini 2 and the RC). My experience with the two is different than yours, I much prefer the DJI RC over using my phone(iPhone 13 pro max). I agree with you that the iPhone looks better but not enough to make me want to use it vs the ease of use of having a controller with a built in screen. I am just a hobbyist like most people who own one and this is just my opinion...to each, his own. I like your videos!
I prefer a bigger screen than that little 5 inch and when you screen record, you’re only getting like 480 and you have no maps no microphone for nature sounds and a top of all that A built in antenna but to each his own
It’s not that bad for a toy. Yes it could be better and DJI are working their arse off to please you fella. Mean while just be grateful of a wonderful invention. Cheers from WA 🇦🇺
iPad mini is the best way to go I don’t want to go-back to a smaller screen and plus you could use the maps I don’t have to worry about downloading maps before I leave the house.
I agree with everything you said about the screen my solution was a mat screen protector and a sun shade but my real problem is always having to connect my phones data to it to have the map work I know that you can download a small, small portion of the map the SD card but again you need it connected to your phone data. I would love to see the ability to download the full map for the United states or whatever country you are in. Thank you for call this issue out.
Is it the truth, or just your opinion? Appreciate the video as we get to see different views and thoughts. However I'm looking to get the Mini3 with the RC controller. I have 2 friends that have the mini3 with the RC and went to check theirs out. Love it. I didn't see any issues, but to be fair I only flown it once. Also you did the test indoors with those annoying high hats reflecting on the screen. Thanks for sharing this!!
@@DadRandom I do not, but will be owning one soon. Waited for DJI to do it's hundreds of firmware updates. LOL I do as much research as possible. I do appreciate your view of the controller.
one that controller shoots in 720 p, 2 it has no internet connection, 3 you can't have apps on it, 4 you cant post to social media, 5 the batteries die out fast, 6 you cant color grade or use any apps on that control, 7 everyone is selling there,s its garbage, unlike me, I can live stream live to straight to Facebook with a ten inch iPod with internet to socile media in 4k
Don't forget that if you are running with a 3rd party app like Litchi, etc., you aren't running it on the new RC. No live internet, no live maps - you will need to tether to a phone for map updates. I get this is a desirable upgrade and see why this new remote gets so much attention, but I can't get my head around replacing a tried and true with shiny and new -- especially at the additional cost. It is not a cheap piece of kit -- the difference if you are buying a basic drone bundle is $160 CAD. That can buy an extra battery, a case with change left over. I think that's a better place to put your hard earned dollars, pounds sterling, euros, etc.
Bought a used iPad Mini 5 off of Ebay about six months ago (it was like new for a good price) and it works just fine and from a few flights in about 95 F weather it didn't dim at all (15 min flight) unlike my iPhone which is horrific in any heat.
I try to fly in golden hour of early just after sunrise...why i would get it is the fact i can use my phone for calls or gps i dont want to take out the drone and set up the phone. I have ipad mini and android tablets ....I have the same see the screen on the phone...i just move to the shadows. I have a mini 2 so i take the cost.
Not sure. Did you maximize the brightness of the Rc? I agree it could be brighter. But I had no problems in bright daylight when the sun was shining. I had some difficulties when it was rather bright but without direct sun. Because then the controller screen is much darker.
one that controller shoots in 720 p, 2 it has no internet connection, 3 you can't have apps on it, 4 you cant post to social media, 5 the batteries die out fast, 6 you cant color grade or use any apps on that control, 7 everyone is selling there,s its garbage, unlike me, I can live stream live to straight to Facebook with a ten inch iPod with internet to socile media in 4k
I kind like the built in screen. I haven't had a problem I would rather a good bright screen to fly with than better details for safety reasons. The good video is in the sd card anyway. I also love that it frees your phone up and makes calling a lot easier. I have a buddy down the road with a mini 2 we meet up in the air and head out. It's a lot easier when you are talking to each other.
Great video. Honest review. I was about to pull the trigger on the RC since it now supports the Air 2S but, I already fly with an iPad Pro 11". Thanks for saving me money.
I bought the standard controller for the screen glare issue. I am happy and will probably get a ipad mini for a larger screen... I'm happy with it using my samsung galaxy cell phone
I am looking at a solution for the glare (screen filter). I would still go iPad. Any glare protector will Reduce the screen brightness 🔆 more is my guess.
Love my Mini 3 and the RC controller... perfect combination, my phone is not tied up while flying. I do agree about the ND filter though... Lot of bright light in Arizona. Cheers.!!
Hi DR! I fly a DJI Mavic Air 2, and am thinking of getting the Mini 3. My iphone dims when it gets hot. I live in Florida, and have found the screen will dim if I fly for 20 minutes or more. The phone apparently dims when it gets hot. I think I will take your advice.
You should probably get the new controller or go the iPad mini 5 or 6 route. I totally understand your dilemma. The sun ☀️ plays havoc On the phone. Really sucks
I came to the same conclusions after using it for awhile, save your money, some weight and space in your case. Fly the golden hours as much as you can.
I fly with a mini 5 was thinking of getting the RC pro but I’d be trading screen real estate for the convenience of not having to mate my mini 5 to the RC-N1.I think that I will pass.
the RC is clearly a budget device. It has a low power CPU hence it can't even do HD screen recording. I wasn't expecting a high quality screen compared to a £1000 phone. As the USB port on my phone just packed up today, I can still fly my drone with the RC. However I will still pick up a standard RC, as I don't trust DJI to not screw it up with firmware updates again. I got my Drone £100 off, hence I got the RC kit
I don’t want to use my phone as a screen. I agree the screen should be brighter. I use my phone as an audio recorder with a lavaliere mic. I also like the integration making updates a breeze. Could the RC1 be better? Yes.
The sound strategy of recording audio using your phone is natural. The phone has a well proven sound system. Incorporate your ear pods as well is another for your mic 🎤
The mini 3 has a clear advantage when it comes to flight time and battery 🔋 management. But the advantage straits to end there. I would offer the Air2S as a step forward for you. Probably one you would gain from as prices drop.
While I would love to have a Tripltek the cost of it being almost 3 times that of the dji remote and it's huge weight difference makes it possible for me to justify it's cost. Even though I use android I have friends that fly the zmini 3 with the IPhone and they are usually cussing at a dim screen in any kind of heat. A decent sunshade and I can fly my mini 3 with the dji remote in any kind of sun without any problems. I will say I have added a matte screen protector to help with glare.
I had a Tripltek. It was horrible. Screen was bright but you couldn't play 4k videos on it. Very unwieldy too. The DJI RC is superb for sheer practicality.
I didn't buy that RC I kept with my standard type I prefer the screen at the top plus my phone has the same brightness and is good in all conditions great points you make about the RC 👍
Have you tried a sunshade for the new rc? For the iPad and phone. Glare is always an issue. My eyesight is shit so only a bigger screen will help. I spoke to the DJI developers and it’s still a no on increasing the font size of the DJI fly app. Such a simple thing would go a long way to helping so many with seeing all the detail of the flight.
Thanks for sharing your views and concerns with the controller for this drone. I have thought about it and the convenience of not having to use a phone and the portability of it. In addition, I hate it when my iPhone dims from the heat and bright light. That should be a huge concern for everyone! However, I do have and love my Tripltek 8 tablet and it's great "viewability". Not crazy about it's weight though but I always use a lanyard and clip to help hold and stabilize the remote. Now I may be following your advise and just get the Mini 3 and standard controller along with some filters and extended batteries. Thanks for sharing. I enjoy your videos.
Have you noticed that you can dim the screen at night on the RC controller and the same way, if you’re a photographer and you already know the rules of photography, you can use the histogram to value the quantity of light during a day flight. I have flown extensively with both the RC N1 controller and the RCA with the screen and I will tell you that I much prefer the RC over the other one. It seems there is no perfect tool anywhere but you have to use your skills as well. Everybody else’s experience is different. I welcome the RC although I will give it to you. It is a pain when it comes to use it for the maps because you have to find a hotspot with your phone anyway to make it worth and work. That issue does not exist with my iPhone obviously since it uses the net work on my iPhone. That said my biggest problem with the iPhone is in a day flight, especially when it’s hot, the screen becomes really dim and you can’t see nothing anymore at some point. So each of these tools have their limits. In both cases you have to work around those limits.
I had the RC Pro for a couple weeks but it was DIFFICULT TO INSTALL SOFTWARE, it was DISCONNECTED (compared to a cell phone), and its large size means very LARGE CASES. And I was also surprised that the screen is actually a little SMALLER than my iPhone XR. I also thought my iPhone screen was richer. I returned my RC Pro, but may still need a bigger brighter screen for hot days, mapping missions, or more intricate flying, which is why I’m researching Tripltek. Finally, there is zero documentation about the future of DJI RC or RC Pro for other drones.
I agree with you 100% before the screen rc pro came out with the mini 3 there wasn't much negative feedback from using the rc n1 and now everyone has a issue with connecting there phone.its heavy, it's a Hassell to set up etc.i use my Samsung s9 and haven't had a problem yet.but since the rc pro the use of your phone is all of a sudden an issue.funny coz U still need your phone if you want wifi .
Yes, but its only as good as the antennas. I have no problem with short flights. Most flights should be that way. The RC is a real nice change, but the screen is its selling feature. It needs to be brighter.
Just one other point....... its not "Truth" your sharing. Rather it is your opinion and an attempt at explaining your view. Perhaps not all agree..... doesn't make those wrong.
I take the point that it can be difficult to see detail on the RC controller in certain light conditions, but that also applies to using the iPhone (or any other mobile phone I guess). For me, the big advantage of the RC is the convenience and that far outweighs any slight deterioration in screen image quality. For the price, it’s a no-brainer to go for the controller with a built-in screen, but each to his own. Nice to have the choice I guess 👍
Hi, thanks for your video. I have mixed feelings. The iPhones are notorious for dimming on hot days. I fly my DJI drones using a Tripltek 8" Pro with the standard RC-N1 controller that has the Sky Fire Aerial controller enhancement kit. However, I do like the DJI RC controller for its light weight and convenience. It never dims and a little shading goes a long way. BTW eye response to brightness (nits) is logarithmic. There is very little actual eye response difference between 500 and 1200 nits. However, my 2000 nits Autel smart controller is a game changer for good brightness even in bright sun.
theres something outside called trees....go under one or just prepare accordingly by buying a 12 dollar screen hood just like someone would with the N1 controller
The screen position of RC is not good. RC lacks the the potential to use waypoints. The only advantage of RC is the number of wheels and buttons but they do not make much difference.
And, you don’t have to take out your phone remove the OtterBox open your controller antenna plug in the cord and adjust the phone… It may be slightly bigger for storage but it’s way faster to set up and go.
The screen is bright enough…the controller is far better then using a cell phone or tablet..your only better option would be the rc pro or tripletek tablet…but the price is considerably higher…..if you put a flat non reflective screen protector on it seems to help with glare ….
Dad, I think it may be possible you need to bring a small shed on wheels with you when you fly as the rc controller does not appear to my eyes as you display. The display is showing ceiling lights every time you show it and that is not good. Thr rc image you show is over bright and is washed out. The sunlight you fly in needs an ND64 and set your brightness to 5,600 Kelvin. My display simply does NOT appear like yours at all. Florida is a very sunny & bright place even with clouds because they are often very low and adjust your drone so the picture is not blown out. Yiu can not lower brightness and change a blown out image on that screen as the image is already damaged when recording. I have seen people locked up, lose display, freeze, jumpy video like your mavic 3, and crashing on the controller and dropping to ce mode, and 300 feet losing signal. I have never had any of these issues. Maybe I have the ONLY good controller on earth but it is nothing like you are showing me on the video. Ray C Florida. Get a portable shed on wheels bud. I still love and enjoy the videos you show so do not be offended. I wish you made less noisey music though.
I've seen so many reviews and yours is the only one telling the truth. It's funny people complaining about their Iphone is not bright enough and will dim when getting hot. The fact is Iphone sucks. Go get a Samsung Ultra 22/23 they won't dim at all and they have 1750 nits brightness. And it's also funny people are saying RC is more convenience. It may be true but you can't fly if you can't see it or it's not bright enough. Moreover, RC has no internet and you can't even update your map. How convenience?
Thanks. 🙏🏼 I hope I guide people in the correct direction. I don’t like it when the whole story isn’t told. Neither is perfect. The screen needs to be 1000 nits. And of argument
Very good info & I have to agree with you, however the RC image and the iPhone image you are displaying are not the same image. It is the same object but not identical image and not a true comparison. Looking at the details, angles, background & horizon they are not the same image.
OK, Do you fly with me? NO, I have hundreds of stick hours, and you can do what you want. I will fly with a tablet all day. The RC is not a perfect solution. It needs 300 more nits of light. My opinion. RC Pro has 1000 nits as well as the tripple tech tablet. Experience with these devices says this and this is my experience with "USING THEM" Thanks for your feedback. I value your opinion.
No, both my cell phones pale by comparison to the RC in terms of nits and glare. The RC was a noticeable improvement. But then, I'm not spending $1000+ on my cell phones. Mine are mere $300 phones. Like the RC is a $300 device. And if you're spending $1000+ on a cell phone to do better than the RC, then why aren't you buying the RC Pro? Which is not only brighter and a better image but also has external video output so you can use a MUCH larger screen if you choose. You're comparing Apples (literally, in this case) to oranges.
Just add a matte screen protector on as it solves the issue. The RC controller is fantastic yes they will probably change the screen on the next update on the RC controller but we could be here forever as we all say oh this could be better or that could need adding and so on. No tech is perfect and seriously you will never ever have a perfect combination of anything as nothing is perfect. My advice is use your own judgement simple as.
i got the controller because i DONT WANT to use my iphone or ipad because during the summer they tend to overheat and go into DIM mode as well as being on call for my job and often getting multiple texts from work during the day kind of sucks while your flying.... this controller literally removed EVERYTHING that annoyed me when i used my phone in the old controller. this option literally works better FOR ME. but if you want a bigger screen there is always the RC Pro controller.. sorry but i COMPLETELY disagree with you since you kind of missed the point of the product..
the dji fly app on your phone will have video editing capabilities the dji fly app on the rc controller doesn't as you can't download video from the drone to the rc controller .
Your making a huge assumption that everyone is using an Iphone. I have a budget phone, so the RC controller makes a lot of sense. You will get in the air faster with the RC controller as well. Also, those two photos you keep comparing are completely different.
+Kevin K the RC was made for convenience, and low budget. If I am at the beach and want quick shots, I would be under an umbrella or have a towel shading my head and screen. RC It’s a nice step forward.
I totally disagree I've had the exact same problem with my phone which is $1500 a simple matte screen and or protector will solve the problem whether you have a phone or not. I dont understand the concern, if you use a phone you will have THE SAME PROBLEM.
Classical "click bait". The RC controller is an "all-in-one" controller for those, who don't want to use a cable to connect their cellphone or even don't want to use a cellphone anyway. If you are more happy to use the mini3 with your phone DJI give you an good option and let you save some money. I am very happy with that controller.
I've had a anti-glare screen protector which I converted from an Iphone screen protector. Never had issues since: ua-cam.com/video/QvObt-MrPJA/v-deo.html
Wow that comparison, really shows how TERRIBLE that RC is. I always wondered how it compared, considering it’s a “great value” of the real smart controller. I totally had my guesses about it. Complete trash! Thanks for this video! Yea might save a few minutes of time, but if you don’t have a spare couple minutes, then just leave the hobby. Lol! I would sell that while it’s still freshly new. Either get the pro controller one, or stick to your phone, or tablet!
Here is a video shared with me with a simple solution to the glare issue. I will do this ”fix” and give you my opinion. ua-cam.com/video/QvObt-MrPJA/v-deo.html Idea 💡 link here
Great job... dji should give you a bonus for that 😉
Being able to pull that controller out of the case turning it on and being up in the air in less than a couple of minutes is all the reason I need to say this RC controller is awesome. I put a matte screen protector on mine and it's great.. the RC Pro controller is $1200 this one is $300 you're getting a lot for $300 in my opinion.
I am always a DJI Fan Boy. Just want to get this drone package moving into its next generation.
@@DadRandom I'm totally with you on that
Extra two min. Haven’t sold me on it yet.
Well yes but having to have a phone still to turn on hot spot is a joke. They couldn’t have put a sim capability in their ? For maps .. Ughhh
Save 2 or three or even 4 minutes wow? My ipad 10.2 is a lot better.
The difference between controllers is $150 not $300. Not having to use my phone, fumble around with it, draining the phone battery, not being able to answer a call, give access to DJI of every thing that is on my phone is worth more than the $150 difference.
Rc is great if you want to free up your phone
Controller is fine no problem and well bright enough, much better than having a phone attached for sure 👌
Its definaely better than dissapearing Iphone screen
There are screen protectors with anti glare available for the RC, the build in antennas don't work as well. DJI needs to make the Mini 3 compatible with the RC Pro!!!
anti glare protectors reduce the screen brightness, which sucks. The answer is the RC Pro screen 1000 nits

The Broadcast Remote ID transmitter’s range was tested successfully out to a maximum visual
range of 3,000 feet from the Remote ID receiver. There was some intermittent behavior, loss of
signal, and significant latency at times. The range was tested by starting the UA as close as possible
to the receiver at an altitude of 150 feet AGL. The UA was then flown outbound in 250 feet
increments. The UA was stopped at each increment (time and range was noted) and the receiver’s
reception was checked. The test stopped at 3,000 feet due to lack of visibility beyond of the UA
after that point. The UA was flown back inbound using the same increments and performing the
same checks. The RSSI-to-range measurements were also captured during these outbound and
inbound flights. The average receive power was measured on the laptop over a 1-second period
while stopped at increments. Figure 4-26 shows the RSSI-to-range measurements and compares
the actual to the predicted values (estimated free-space path loss with the specifications from the
system description).
Much prefer using DJI RC than flying using iphone. Need my phone for other stuff. So far so good with my Mini 3 Pro!
I can’t wait for the new DJI FPV system. I love flying with goggles.
I have the glare protector on mine, mostly for screen protection
Man, the extra dials and buttons on the RC is the best thing about it. I have hated using the new controller and app on the mavic 3, compared to the M2 and p4p controller and the Go 4 app. Being able to just pull the remote out and not fiddle around with my phone, and the extra control I can get using the buttons and dials is a game changer - both for the mini3 and the mavic 3.
Yes, the new controller has better grip and a nicer size for two hands
I have the rcn1 that came with the mini 2 and the rc controller that come with the mavic 3. The advantage is you dont need your phone or tablet. Also you have 2 scroll wheels. For camera tilt and zooming. And 2 extra back customizable buttons. Screen on rc controller is just fine. I would suggest getting the rc controller cause it is just better.
Using the new DJI RC is still more convenient than using iphone for me. But thanks for sharing your insights! That’s how we’re going to get improved and better products in the future.
its garbage i just sold mine foe 50 bucks
Agree
Strong/Brave review, so many are singing the praises of this controller especially since it connects with the M3 now
The controller is a leap forward, just not a bright enough screen. That’s really the fix. Drones are flown outside in the sun ☀️ Reflecting low light is also an issue many don’t consider.
Well u just saved me so.e money I was thinking of getting that controller for my mavic 3 but I'll just use my phone thanks a million
I wouldn’t get that, but I would buy the RC Pro
Nailed it! Thanks man, saved me a buck. Have a few DJI’s and was wondering about glare and obviously, the screen has no anti-glare and low NIT for direct sunlight. Great words
Get the pro controller
I put a non-glare screen protector on mine. I can see perfectly in broad daylight and I'm not looking at myself in a mirror.
I bought a screen fix, video coming. Is it a viable solution? Does the fox make the screen less functional?
I totally agree, we need DJI to up the screen 📺 values to 1000 nits. You are completely correct on your dislike 👎🏻 for the iPhone screen manager
They have a glare cover for it like all remotes they make they sell them on amazon..
Yesterday I was on the beach in Florida and under an umbrella I could see my iPhone perfectly well, but in the bright sun I couldn’t see the screen at all. What’s the brightness of the new phones, 1200 nits?
From 800-1200 nits variable
Hi Dad, Thanks for your honest up front opinion it makes a huge difference when trying to make an informative decision on what to buy. Many other honest reviews also mention the DJI RC has a very poor range considering they spruke 12Km and it barely reaches 1 before reception dies. Pity the DJI RC Pro isn't compatible , or is it? I know, it's 3 times the price but it sounds like a good RC. Cheers
It is compatible now! 👍🏻
I really love my N1 mini 2 controller + my Google Pixel 👍
Ps.
Check out the screen fix video ua-cam.com/video/QvObt-MrPJA/v-deo.html
I prefer a bigger screen than that little 5 inch and when you screen record, you’re only getting like 480 and you have no maps no microphone for nature sounds and a top of all that A built in antenna but to each his own
It’s not that bad for a toy. Yes it could be better and DJI are working their arse off to please you fella. Mean while just be grateful of a wonderful invention. Cheers from WA 🇦🇺
iPad mini is the best way to go I don’t want to go-back to a smaller screen and plus you could use the maps I don’t have to worry about downloading maps before I leave the house.
yes, sometimes new is not always better
👍👍✌️ I use the tripltek 8 pro was expensive but very very good. I’m lucky with my pack is always on my remote connected and ready to go.
Great tip!
Thank you for making this video I am 100% agree! 😁👍
Glad you got my points. Love the product, need a brighter screen 📺
I didn’t like the mat screen protector so I learned to love it without one I agree. It’s better than your phone
I fly my my mini on the 10.2 ipad no problems nice vlog..
Do you know if the DJI RC can screen mirror (cast) to a TV?
No, 👍🏻
Is it the truth, or just your opinion? Appreciate the video as we get to see different views and thoughts. However I'm looking to get the Mini3 with the RC controller. I have 2 friends that have the mini3 with the RC and went to check theirs out. Love it. I didn't see any issues, but to be fair I only flown it once. Also you did the test indoors with those annoying high hats reflecting on the screen. Thanks for sharing this!!
So you don’t actually own one? 😏 ok 👌🏻
Interesting comments. I agree. I use my mini6 daily in bright conditions. A matte screen protector worked on it. Will try on the RC1. 🇬🇧
It has the same light value as the new 6. I will only fly the Mavic 3 with it. Now, I need to get a regular controller for the mini 3
Definitely the best way to go 👍
I fly with the ipad 10.2 it's great with a lanyard.
👍🏻
U are completely right. it's over hyped, and u still have to have a hotspot, to have good maps. I would rather use my phone or a high nit tablet.
Thanks 🙏🏼 some reasonable people still
In this world
Not sure. Did you maximize the brightness of the Rc? I agree it could be brighter. But I had no problems in bright daylight when the sun was shining. I had some difficulties when it was rather bright but without direct sun. Because then the controller screen is much darker.
Love my Tripltek8! 1200 nits - no dimming :)
I love the Tripltek 8 too but it is such a brick (heavy)! LOL!
This is my first drone so I have nothing to compare it to, thank you for the info though brother.
You pickEd a great first drone
one that controller shoots in 720 p, 2 it has no internet connection, 3 you can't have apps on it, 4 you cant post to social media, 5 the batteries die out fast, 6 you cant color grade or use any apps on that control, 7 everyone is selling there,s its garbage, unlike me, I can live stream live to straight to Facebook with a ten inch iPod with internet to socile media in 4k
nailed it... you always have your phone... 5.5 700 nits is 2018 phones... end of story
I CANT AGREE MORE
I kind like the built in screen.
Any glare protector will
Reduce the screen brightness 🔆 more is my guess.
@@DadRandom ill be looking to see how that works for you
Love my Mini 3 and the RC controller... perfect combination, my phone is not tied up while flying. I do agree about the ND filter though... Lot of bright light in Arizona.
Cheers.!!
Nice honest review. Thank for the truth. 👍😇👌
Thanks Tony, for dropping in Friday
The sun ☀️ plays havoc
On the phone. Really sucks
@@DadRandom The ipad 10.2 is spot on flying drones.
I came to the same conclusions after using it for awhile, save your money, some weight and space in your case. Fly the golden hours as much as you can.
Great minds think alike. I told you I was a practical person. I have no,
reason to mislead people.
I think ill just keep using the 1st SC and Mini2 for now!
My RC Pro will be here today. I’m excited to try it out. It’s only money lol.
Hope you enjoy it!
Yes
I fly with a ipad 10.2 wearing a lanyard great.
Why not just get a non-reflective screen cover?
I agree with you 100% before the screen rc pro came out with the mini 3 there wasn't much negative feedback from using the rc n1 and now everyone has a issue with connecting there phone.its heavy, it's a Hassell to set up etc.i use my Samsung s9 and haven't had a problem yet.but since the rc pro the use of your phone is all of a sudden an issue.funny coz U still need your phone if you want wifi .
I agree 100% I fly with a ipad 10.2 excellent keeps my phone free for calls and my ipad has cellular if I req it.
What about occusync 3.0. Isn't that in the controller?
Yes, but its only as good as the antennas. I have no problem with short flights. Most flights should be that way. The RC is a real nice change, but the screen is its selling feature. It needs to be brighter.
Nice advice, but that’s are flavor for! 😎
I am a DJI fan, regardless. I am pushing to improve them.
Just one other point....... its not "Truth" your sharing.
Rather it is your opinion and an attempt at explaining your view.
Perhaps not all agree..... doesn't make those wrong.
All….every, review is an opinion. With exception of those who fly with frequency.
Correction: I fly with the iPad Mini 6 500 nits as well
I take the point that it can be difficult to see detail on the RC controller in certain light conditions, but that also applies to using the iPhone (or any other mobile phone I guess).
However, my 2000 nits Autel smart controller is a game changer for good brightness even in bright sun.
hello, has dji fixed the range issues on these drones with the recent firmware updates?
I use a iPad 6 large screen I look for shade if there is no shade I fly sitting in my car. Works great for me.
theres something outside called trees....go under one or just prepare accordingly by buying a 12 dollar screen hood just like someone would with the N1 controller
+Phillysupra the screen filters do not fix the problem. Exposure changes are difficult to adjust as well without a minimum 1000 nit screen.
Agree that the M3P RC is the most overhyped tech item ever (plenty of flaws), but it gets better with a matt screen protector.
The screen position of RC is not good. RC lacks the the potential to use waypoints. The only advantage of RC is the number of wheels and buttons but they do not make much difference.
Great Dad as usual
👍👍
I’ll be honest with you, I don’t see any difference between using my iPhone on the original controller versus the new smart controller…
And, you don’t have to take out your phone remove the OtterBox open your controller antenna plug in the cord and adjust the phone… It may be slightly bigger for storage but it’s way faster to set up and go.
I don't have a phone so this is great, I agree better resolution would be nice. I have a sun screen by STARTEC which is useful.
Just put up a link for a screen protector\anti glare for $4
Thank you 🙏🏼
You need to find something else to cry about. The controller is great. You people are never satisfied with anything. Damn.
Not crying, just flyin
Good advice, Dad. #TheTruth
I like the range 14000 feet and only wish the next gen controller will be 1000 nits. I like the portable size and the battery life as well.
Thanks
Thanks for the advice
Don’t get me wrong I agree with your assessment, I was only commenting on the imagery used in the comparison, not your conclusion nor your opinion.
Thanks, I will definitely give credit to you guys if this works! 👍🏻😎

Sorry but but get real compare apples to apples connect your phone to the RCN1 remote and fumble about with your demo
Ok Phil
i got the controller because i DONT WANT to use my iphone or ipad because during the summer they tend to overheat and go into DIM mode as well as being on call for my job and often getting multiple texts from work during the day kind of sucks while your flying.... this controller literally removed EVERYTHING that annoyed me when i used my phone in the old controller. this option literally works better FOR ME. but if you want a bigger screen there is always the RC Pro controller.. sorry but i COMPLETELY disagree with you since you kind of missed the point of the product..
I agree. Summer and phones do not mix. My recommendation would be to use the pro controller with higher nit rating if you are. A serious photographer
the dji fly app on your phone will have video editing capabilities the dji fly app on the rc controller doesn't as you can't download video from the drone to the rc controller .
I don’t agree
You don't ur just up an down the mountain
Literally up and down mountains every week 🤣👍
It hardly beats your phone. And with RID the phone needs to be in the loop 🔁
