It was a big one for us this week, as we started cladding the interior of our van! We've been waiting for this moment ever since we bought Sophia. We're using 8mm pine cladding for our walls and ceiling, although we ran into a little roadblock when we realised we had to finish battening out our bulkhead. The shelving there gave us one hell of a headache, but we got there in the end. A busy week on the conversion, with lots of little jobs to do before the walls get finished.

Chesca & Ben here! In May 2019, we bought a sprinter van while we were on the other side of the world. We flew back to the UK to convert her into our dream home on wheels. Follow our journey as we take her from a panel van to a camper van, ready to drive us around the world.
Brilliant idea about the tape to show where the wood is underneath. Thanks 😊
Nice progress and great job on the shelf.
Thank you! Yeah we were really pleased with how it came out in the end 🙂
Can't wait to start this myself!!!!! Awesome video people ✌🏻
Awesome! and thank you! 👍
New subscribers here! Love the shelf. Sounds like you've got some great plans. Can't wait to see more! ~Fay❤️
Thanks Fay! We're getting there, slowly but surely :) Following your adventures too, best of luck with the start of your van life journey
@@OverlandingSophia hey how many pakket of wood did u need to clad the van ? Tnx
Hey Guys : Just found you yesterday. Subscribed & Liked . Love the Videos. I am looking for an American Clipper RV and when I find one I'm going to remodel it and the way you put the wooden wall in gave me a great ideal. I'm so excited to get started but what's holding me back is not having the RV.. Ha Ha Thanks for the Video and I'll be watching . Terry in Kentucky
Hi Terry, thank you so much! So glad you like the videos, and happy to hear the wood cladding has given you some ideas - we LOVE the wooden walls! Best of luck with your remodel! All the best
Nice one both loving the carpentry work the bulkhead shelf 👍 we'll impressed and the cladding looks great and the stud work for the kitchen 👍 she's coming along very nicely indeed, another great video 😉 ❤️✌️ xx
That's great to hear coming from you! The shelf was a headache for us, we haven't really done woodwork before so it's all a learning curve too. Part of the fun though 🙏😀
@@OverlandingSophia we were sat watching you and I said to Beck awww wish I was there to give you a hand and a few pointers you genuinely done a great job on the shelf considering you have no carpentry skills , what you done is very similar to what I explained to Beck that we were going to do, tell you what I'll P. M you my number tomorrow and if you are ever stuck you can always video chat and show me what's the situation is or even drop us a text if you want advice on any cabinet making, roof vent etc just don't ring, text, email about electrics 😂 but to be honest you guys won't need me your doing a great job 👏👏👏👏❤️✌️x PS Beck said hi x
That would be great, thank you, just drop us a DM on Instagram. Half the fun is trying to figure it out, but I'm sure we're going to hit a brick wall sooner or later! Also Ben would be more than happy to help with the electrics if you need it, but doubt you will as you're smashing it too. Say hi to beck from us! :D
Sorry, just found ur site, know its year old but subscribed to hope it up dates to newest video's, so as to see how ur doing also ur travels
I like you very much: you are creative, good at performing jobs, you inspire sympathy and you are beautiful people. It will be pleasant to follow your adventures.
That's so kind of you, thank you so much 🤗
❤ GR8 VID ❤ LOVED IT ❤
Hey guys great job!! What how did you attach the vertical support to the van?! ✌🏼
how did you finish the otherside of the bulk head frame? i.e what do you see from the inside of the cab. Thanks for this video as I will build a large kitchen and will almost certainly copy this frame idea to support my kitchen and headliner shelf. I have actually cut out half of the grey bulkhead liner and will stick wooden supports and insulate the bulkhead then stick a shelf down on the supports.
After having been in the van for about a year, how is the insulation layers working out? That is, how hot or cold does it get in the summer and winter? What is the high/low temps where you live? Thanks.
How did you mount the headliner/shelf? To keep it Secure?
That looks great. I'm now installing my cladding in my build!. Can I ask what screws you used. Mine keep splitting the wood before they countersink so I think they may be too big.
Ryan Hey, we used 20mm wood screws ( not countersunk ) and when we were drilling close to the edge we made a small pilot hole first and this seemed to stop any splitting. Hope that works for you 👍
Thanks for this vid we’re on this step right now. Wish us luck. We’ll be making a vid of how we do our walls (link in bio) right now we haven’t decided on whether we’ll be using wall panels or tongue and groove yet. I’d luv your feedback and welcome all comments 😊
Phnx Rizn hey how are you guys doing? Have not seen any new stuff.. you guys ok?
Amazing work guys. Could you tell me what size are the battens that you used before the cladding? Many thanks. Jose
Hey Jose! The battens we used were 2x1 😊
Good video ‘ but did you yourself batten the walls ‘
It would have been nice to see.
Thanks 🙏
We did! But it’s in a previous video ☺️
Hi guys. Thanks for the video. Will definitely take some pointers on the bulk head and shelf. Quick question, is that 3x1 pine you are using for the bulk head? I cant work out the sizes from the video
Or maybe it's 2x1 looking at it again
Hey! Yeah you’re right it’s 2x1 battening we’re using ☺️
How many packs did you use?
Guys .. you are very very motivating.. Is this van for vacation or more full time plans?
Van is for full time living as soon as we get her finished! 😀
Overlanding Sophia So excited about your journey! It will be epic! Plus you guys can work remotely! You got it all covered!
Great video guys! Which trim did you use, a link to Wickes would be AMAZING! Thanks!
Honestly, we have no idea! It’s just a standard white trim you can pick up from any DIY store ☺️
@@OverlandingSophia thank you!!
Can i ask how you attached your batons to the metal wall..did you use rivets? Or drill for screws thanks
Hello! We attached the battens to the ribs of the wall, using self tapping screws 😊
👍👍👍
Do you have a vid on how you’re doing your electrical yet?
Not yet, we will be doing electrics in stages over the next few weeks, so expect videos on that soon :)
Overlanding Sophia awesome! I’ll be waiting
How did you fix the battens to the van wall?. Just screes into the metal frame?
We attached them to the metal ribs inside the van 😊
@@OverlandingSophia thanks but I was more asking how the batten attaches to the metal ribs in the van. Would it be a small pilot hole then a metal screw?. Adhesive?. If the screw goes into the metal is there a risk of rusting?
👍
Can you remember what size battens you used for the walls please? Thank you
If I remember it was 2x1” ☺️
@@OverlandingSophia thank you
Great video, good to see some step by step and i am currently "binge" watching your videos.
However, im currently playing a drinking game, drink when they say "wickes". You should be sponsered by them. :L
Hi, where did you buy the wood ?
Hey Kevin, we got the wood from Wickes 😊
No insulation and where are your wires supposed to go now? Not well planned
Maybe watch the rest of our videos. Fully insulated, and wires are run in conduit later on.
Isn't reflextics a bad insulation idea?
Not at all! Probably the most important part of the insulation process 😊
@@OverlandingSophia did you use foam board or some other kind of insulation behind the reflextics?
@@ryanzimmerman3020 yeah, we used celotex and spray foam 👍
take a shot every time they say cladding
🤣 and every time we break a piece of cladding
I'm fucked.
To say this was a video about a Van conversion is an Umderstatement
A what?
@@LexAngel An Udderstagment
absolutely no point in sticking red tape on it
If you could elaborate why, that would be lovely 😊
