    That first 15 seconds with Tim is hilarious 😂. Brilliant video as ever richard, really enjoy watching your progress on the garden railway. In terms of a diesel for your layout, a sentinel, class 45, class 52 or class 20 would be nice to see. Keep up the good work and stay safe as always

    LOVE your videos!!! Really helps to inspire others also. I'm 65+ and a few years ago I pulled mine up from the weeds after 22 years and elevated it and went battery power. That was the best two things I ever did in this hobby! I use it so much more and it easy as I'm not crawling around in the dirt fighting weeds. Like you said, waist high is perfect!! Many thanks!!

    Where it all went wrong!, not really, timber works under tension and compression, The outer is correct for the inner the relief cuts should have been on the outside forcing them together, also try soaking the timber overnight it's more flexible wet than dry and will form easier and dry to the shape.
    The more I watch this the more I want to get involved with O gauge, Just really don't have time.

    Great stuff again Richard! Loved the shots where Lulu kept trying to tempt you with the orangey-red ball 😂 Tequila is a lovely old girl too🐈 I agree about waist height: my old garden railway was, as is now the layout I just built to run around our patio which packs away into the shed, which I finally got running last week! 🍻

    Lulu is lovely. Funniest on the timelapse where she is repositioning the ball. That dog thinks the world of you! I am 'voting' for the Class 37, with a nuclear flask in tow. Normally they double up the locos but I think that the nuclear flask gives you good reason to have a short train and not have to shell out for a rake of wagons! Maybe the nuclear flask could contain goodies for Lulu, to be dispensed en-route. Get her trained to retrieve a train delivered ball.

    Notching in wood or plywood is called scarffing. I think if you had reversed the sides of the scarffing so it’s on the same radius as the outer curve it would have a better chance of cooping with the curve. Love the way your Lulu watches your painting.

    Hi Richard. A few tips for next time! Use strips of ply, not planks! Soak them in water before curving (they will dry!). If you must use planks, go to the merchants and hand select pieces with no knots! Paint the posts before fitting. The bottom 4" is untreated as it's inside the met post, and that's the most vulnerable bit because rain will run down the post. Also, you could have saved time with a fence treatment sprayer.

    Hi mate. I read a post by one of your subscribers about treating the end of your wooden posts before putting them into the ground spikes. If you can’t remove and treat the parts you’ve already done/laid, may I suggest going round the edges and any other exposed areas with outdoor silicone as that should help stop water ingress. Sorry if I’ve sticking my nose in. Haha.
    I rarely comment but I watch all your videos and I’m really enjoying this build series regarding your garden railway. Good luck with it and all the best.

    • @NewJunction
      @NewJunction  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks Simon, that's a good suggestion. The Meta posts have metal teeth that grip the wood so pre-treating wouldn't work. The silicon idea should however. 👍🏻

    Looks great.
    My garden railway has not progressed at all. When I eventually managed to start sorting out my sleep schedule, my sister and her fiance moved out so my dad helped them move, then he started redecorating our hallway, and now he's back at work in a school. So who knows when I'll eventually get my setup sorted.
    I'm using lengths of decking timber, treated with 3 coats of varnish and then roofing felt stuck on using a nail gun. Only gonna be single track, but I need more wood and felt, as well as some track before I can make a whole loop. But since I'm fresh out of uni, I have no income so it is also hard to afford to get more track (also since most places are also sold out for now).
    Loco wise, I'd go for a 37 or a 25/3 for the first diesel service.

      I don't think I'll get any track laid today, but at least the first few boards are going in.
