How cool is it to have access to a shop like DCC concepts! I live in one of the top 10 metro areas in the U.S. and my city does not have a single hobby store anywhere in the city anymore, not even one of the bad chain stores. I have to drive hours to get to the nearest reasonable hobby store.
It's also nice to see someone taking masks and distancing seriously, thanks showing that.

You could buy or make a small jig to hold the wire in place. I have seen them for sale online. The first one i saw reminded me of a fly tying stand for fishing. I can imagine a small tool tray with feet to keep it off the track. Inside the tray you could mount an iron holder next to articulated arms with clips to hold both ends of the wire in place. I think that would speed up the process quite a bit.
Very nice yard and beautiful dog.

This is the same method of wiring that I've employed, although I tin both the wire and the rail with standard wire solder before soldering the two together. I did this back in june I think, although I use droppers through the ends of the boards where there's a lifting section, using RCA plugs to connect the lifting section wiring to the main track wiring.
I haven't yet pinned any of my track down yet, aside from the first lifting section and the bits immediately either side of it. And of course I'll have to wait for warmer weather to make sure the gaps are correct, don't want buckled rails as soon as spring hits.
After seeing this was uploaded last night, I actually went out and ran my 0 gauge today. I tried my dapol 57xx, but one crankpin was missing, so that's sidelined yet again (it's my newest of the 3 locos I have, and have barely run it more than simply running in). I ran my 08 with my latest wagons (2 parkside 21t hoppers, a parkside GWR van wagon, and a dapol 14t tanker), then loaded up all of my wagons behind it to see how well it works. It hauls them well going forwards, but in reverse I get loads of derailments. Note to self, don't run such long rakes until the whole thing is a loop...

Blimey Rich, I was beginning to wonder if Lulu had accidentally buried you in the garden and forgotten about you 😜 Great to see some progress and always interesting to see maintenance in progress on a garden set up! That solder paste looks rather interesting I must say 🤔 The station building is awesome, but I can’t help think it would be better on an over bridge as it is quite deep (a bit like a Great Central station with an island platform) 🤷🏻‍♂️
That shuttle is a great idea too…another reason to lure me into the dark side of DCC…eventually… 😅
Cheers mate, give Lulu a treat from us! 👍🍀 🖤

Hi Richard, nice work, you raise some good points.
Also you might want to spray WD40 on the fishplates as they will wear out prematurely with current through them. WD40 helps maintain a sliding expansion gap too.
Best practice for DCC dictates a BUS with droppers, but in the garden, even if sleeved with brass tubes and, prior treatment of wood preservative etc, drilling holes in the wooden board's ain't great. Thus jumpers are the next best thing - the debate re stranded or solid wire etc still rages. If using jumpers then stay alive decoders and meticulous track cleaning is required as nickel silver, over a distance and over time isn't the best conductor, it can be done though as long as one is careful re voltage drop etc. Or one can plump for RC instead 🤔🤔🤔😉😉😉👍
Lovely and huge garden, you could get a lot of railway in there!👍👍👍😊😊😊😆😆
Interesting about the shuttle too - DCCC are very good at uptaking such facilities, others less so.
AND bless you both for keeping each other safe and well, people seem to think we are SARS2 free, it's still here and still an unpleasant force to be reckoned with.

Great to see progress on the garden railway, although every time I see you working on it I look at my own garden and find myself being tempted by o gauge once again. Congrats on the little one and thanks for the DCC concepts section, that just might do me for what I’m looking for.

How will you be operating the head shunt on dcc?
All the videos Iv seen on block sections dont explain the coaches/wagons occuping the station block section when it comes to backing back onto the front of the train. As far as I can tell the section would be occupied so the dcc wont allow a locomotive to re enter the section having changed ends.

Are you regretting using overlapping felt for the trackbed as it is giving you a switchback effect?, the guards van views are like being at Alton Towers!

Ha nooo, although it would look better, I'd rather have better surface waterproofing

Does it not bother you that you don’t have a continuous loop? Or is that intentional?
This has been a really inspiring and excellently produced series of videos! I’m in the process of starting a g scale garden layout and this has really spurred me on!
