- Hess and Fiona discuss Sam Shankland's entertaining prep notes for Richard Rapport which were shown in a podcast ahead of Tata Steel Chess 2022!

I'm incredibly impressed by how extensive this prep is. Just by looking at the bar on the right, there's at least 200 variations, and most of them have several hundred moves. This is absolutely insane. There's maybe a million moves in that file, probably covering everything, including the legendary "Rapport random BS" line
Ahaha the Random BS variation line, changes every time you see it
What we know is, that it is:
a) A06 - Reti opening
b) 13 moves
And this is why Rapport is my favourite chess player
I love how the first 10 seconds is just Fabi staring blankly and drinking.
This is one of the funniest things I have seen in the chess world
I feel like I've faced that variation quite a few times
Random BS is what i play everytime.
Sam against every player....careful consideration....against rapport...bullet game opening!
It's literally the Petroff, one of the most drawish openings out there lmao
@@benedekistvan2655 it's not a Petrov. The game they played was a Petrov, but this "Random BS" line is a Reti (1. Nf3) line.
@@bobing1752 Of corse you are right but a sideline of the Reti is 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nf6
@@egberthuizinga4408 no, the Reti is 1. Nf3, not 1. e4. What you just said is indeed the Petrov opening, but this is not the content of Sam's file named "Rapport Random BS", because this one is a Reti opening line beginning with 1. Nf3. You can know it by the ECO code : A06 is a Reti
Random Bs is my favorite opening
I always loved Rapports Game. He reminds me of Bobby.
He is NOTHING like Bobby Fisher tho. The guy is an angel of a soul. Say that about Fisher...
I guess it contains the knowledge of the unknown 🤣 maybe aliens... That would be fun

why is sam leaking his prep to his opponents. Isn't it a big disadvantage for him.
they are games from 2012-2016 and everyone has tons of games in their data bases nowadays. I doubt he loses anything by sharing that
What site or program is that? Is that free?
Chessbase. Not free.
@@theodorecoyne8163 dammit. But thank you a lot!
Scid vs PC is a free alternative if you want
@@Azelide heck yeah i want! Thank you!
🤣🤣🤣
i love how a guy who was at his peak not even a top 20 player is making fun of a guy that's number 6 and is quite memorable for his creativity.
number 6? His peak is 10th.
Also stop being so sensitive no one is being mocked.
@@mnm1273 rapport was number six as of september 2021, and yes calling someone's repertoire bs IS mocking esp when they are far better player than you are.
Rapport plays random BS, its just a fact
@@miguelfonseca1104 He was number 13 that month (I'd give a link but that's probably what got my last comment deleted).
It's about a single variation (that's what the files are) and most likely just talks about a single wacky line. Mot likely one where Rapport plays something odd but practical It's a light hearted comment about a weird variation. It's not an attack against the player you need to stop being so sensitive
@@miguelfonseca1104 that description would have probably entertained rapport
