    In move 1, playing Nc6+ is actually saving the situation - if black takes with Rxc6, it enables a series of checks at the end of which you can trade your queen and rook for both rooks and the bishop (Rg8+, Kb7, Rxd7+, Kb6, Qxh1, Qc3, Qxc6+, Qxc6, Rd6, Bxd6 and exd6). Black is still winning, but not checkmate. Of course this isn't the only way, but it's what stockfish recommends to both sides. And if black instead takes with dxc6, you play Rg1 which turns this into a trade of Queens instead of checkmate (with a sacrifice of the knight of course). In comparison to the situation before, if black would instead try to play Rxg1, followed by your Qxg1 and his Qc3 (the unstoppable checkmate from the video) You can actually not just stop it but turn the game around with Qb6+, and after some forced moves you take black's bishop.
    In short, it's still not the most favorable situation, but it's not a forced checkmate like the video suggests :)

    As a 1750 rapid player I actually found all 5 initial moves and all of their followups besides the last one. However, there's a major difference between looking at a position knowing there is a winning move and playing the position in-game, as I likely would completely overlook these winning tactics in-game. That last sequence was especially beautiful.

      it's actually a lot easier than even puzzle tactics because we are watching a super GM's "top unbelievable moves" list. not only do you know there is a winning sequence, but you know it's unusual. you disregard a lot of normal looking moves because you are primed to look for unusual moves since you know a normal looking maneuver can't be the solution.

    • @a-train69420
      @a-train69420 Рік тому

      @@zfeazcesd1047 Precisely. That was what I was trying to get across in my original comment, but you put it into words perfectly. Even if I got the positions in puzzle rush I may not have found all of them but because I knew it was a spectacular move I was looking for, that made the moves a lot easier to find.

    On position 3 I was thinking h6+ and if king takes then fxg5+ would have a discovered attack on the queen. But obviously it’s not as forcing as the line played. Good stuff. Been watching all of these.
