You actually ended up putting me on BlazBlue entropy effect, but I'm curious if you ever came back to it? The full game is out and they made a lot of changes from early access (the one I don't like is how they changed the entropy system) and for some reason they gave the game like 3 endings. The core loop is still the same and gets really fun
Street of Rogue. It's a sandbox-roguelike game where your objective is to topple down the mayor. Each floor has a different environment and theme, you can do many different ways to finish the objective. It's an underrated game. Bop ost too.
I hope roboquest sales go up because of you. I have been recommending it to my friends since the pre-alpha, and I absolutely love where the game ended up.
Can someone explain y its aroguelike. Aren't the l3feos the same each time with the only change being items. That just seems more like a typical level based game
Do I care about roguelikes? No Do I want to look at the gameplay to expand my gaming palette? No Do I absolutely enjoy Skooch’s videos regardless of what it is? Hell yeah
Favorite part of roguelikes is getting to know them and then throwing on an unholy amount of mods that quadruples the amount of content and squares the silliness.
The thing with neon abyss having little variety is exactly why i like it, its not everyones cup of tea, but its nice to have a game you can just boot up and mindlessly play after a long day.
I would say they are for casuals. Rogelikes in general are obscure in a world of Call of Duty and World of Warcraft, and any games not BOI, Gungeon, and Dead Cells are obscure imo
I discovered you because of league like 3 years ago, but I stayed here not because your content was for league, but because i loved the way you make your videos, your energy and your humour it's so good man, I wish you the best, thank you for the new content ❤
Fab! Great picks and reasoning and the wish to talk about them is relatable;o) I mostly factor in, if I the mix of mechanics works for me, feels engaging and longevity/do I like to return for some Sisyphosian action. Tend to cross-binge. Suggestions for obstruse over obtuse: - Revita gave me what I'd wanted from Neon Abyss - Pesticide not required: Atomicrops but condensed and bullet heaven - RAD: isometric Beatemup as an egglaying punk - Bomblinger: Bomberman in a Wild West setting - Ftaghn: Ring of Pain goes Lovecraft - Lore of Hex and Hexguardian: Tower defense on hex grid - Cavity busters: grosser TBoI - Boyfriend Dungeon: Persona meets SoulEater - Kingdom Eightees and Thronefall - Magi-craft, Neophyte, Noita, Magicka 2, sneakily grouped;o) Bio-Prototype? The tiermatrix imo doesn't add to the ranking with small entry no. and don't refrain from replacement lists, dosed divisiveness drapes discord, engage-/enragement;o) Cheers
Another amazing video! Thanks for all the infos you bring in, it might be not your main focus, but I'd love to see a JRPG or RPG version of these Roguelikes videos.
i would also very much recommend barony and loop hero, the former is a 3d dungeon crawler with a leveling system and a bunch of secrets and ways to minmax and the other is a cool relaxing autofighter where you build a map around your character to affect the run
as another roguelike enthusiast i knew and played most of these, but not spiritfall and ravenswatch, and now you got me really interested in them. also, you should absolutely check Slice and Dice, Into the Breach, Tiny rogues out and Shogun Showdown . But beware, you might end up with hundreds of hours into into the breach lmao. great vid skooch
going under! made by the folks who recently came out with another crab's treasure (crab souls), the conceit is about working for a startup and battling other failed startups with makeshift weapons. the models can get glitchy, but i've sunk almost as many hours into it as hades i and ii, and am a huge fan of peglin as well. also, nice rhythm heaven bg music!
skooch . i have been a pretty long time subscriber, and did watch your vids in a long time tho and DAAAAAAAMN did you put on some muscle !! good for you my man !
yea i feel like everygame on here has already made a fair amount of rounds (maybe besides spiritfall and roboquest) probably because most "obscure" rougelikes are either executed badly or still being worked on
Roguelike recs: Heroes of Hammerwatch (might be a bit too simple, but I loved this game especially with a party of like 10). Cult of the Lamb has a lot of roguelike elements, but is also a management game where the management affects your runs so maybe not exactly a roguelike, but I think you'd make a great video about it. PlateUp! is Overcooked if Overcooked was a roguelike. It's fairly simple, but amazing when you actually get sweaty trying to survive for longer with friends. Returnal is a pretty good coop third person shooter with lots of movement, it's a very "Sony" game with a very different storyline and aesthetic. And Shotgun King: The Final Checkmate, a chess rogue like, but with guns. No, I will not elaborate further.
What I feel is the biggest problem of Neon Abyss is that it doesnt give you any reason to go for the end bosses after you defeat them once because the effort to get to them isnt worth it. To get to one of the last areas you have to fill the purple/red bar in bottom right twice for the same colour to get the Athena or Ares token. The purple bar fills out if you clear rooms without taking damage or interacting with purple things (doors, chests, big crystals) that require those small purple crystals to use and looses progress when getting hit, and the red bar fills by taking damage once per room and hitting purple things to make them turn red and damage you for using them. The problems? To even start filling the bar you need to interact with one of the purple/red things to determine which type the bar is meaning you can waste an entire floor of progress because the game decided to spawn them in the last room of a floor. Then theres a problem with the purple things turning red from ANY HIT THEY TAKE, you could be in a long room and an enemy OFFSCREEN could hit a purple chest and lock out of valueable bar progress when you trying going for Athena. And even after going through all that work of trying to maintain the bar, getting to the final area to fight Athena or Ares and beat them...all you get for that is a checkmark for that character and thats it, if you beat them once theres no reason to go there again besides wanting to be a completionist, but is fully completing a game with an achivement that wants you to stand around afk in the menu for 30 uninterruped minutes really worth it? Also really hoping you make it a series Skooch
Early on in the games life getting the coins was random. They updated it to be two rooms. I loved neon abyss but getting to curses Athena or ares makes me want to bash my head into a wall
One thing to see a vid by the goat Skooch, another thing to see him mention Brotato AND Rounds, easily both of my favorite rogue-likes, even if one is simplistic and the other isnt really a roguelike shame to hear about Neon Abyss though, played that a bit and had fun with it, but didn’t get to the point where i realized it had no depth to it. Oh well, excited to check out the other roguelikes
I would love to see this as a series, since roguelikes are one of my favorite genres. BUT WAIT SKOOCH you must try Vagante. It is a roguelike that is insanely underrated that I have been playing for years. It has 2D platforming, in-depth skill trees that make huge impacts based on what you choose each run, and a decent item list that can fundamentally change how you play. There are up to 6 classes if you count the random class which gives you a random body from one of the other classes and mixes their skill trees to give you a random set of possible perks. AND to top it off there is co-op up to 4 players. It is brutal but fair, has a steep learning curve but is still fun, and a surprising amount of depth that has kept me coming back to it since it's release in 2018 in search of unlocking the true ending. The fact that is has less than 4000 reviews on steam is a travesty and I hope you can give it a shot because I think you will enjoy. Thanks for the videos :D
I used to be obsessed with league and watch your old videos all the time, and than I quit a bit before you did, and the funny thing is i recently go SUPER into rouge likes and just figured out your making video about them now!
you should deffo do more vids like this, the indie industry is always in need of more advertisement and there are a lot of games out there that are really good but the developers just dont have enough money to advertise their games properly
Oh skooch, you have blessed me once again 😂 love this channel. So glad you moved on from asking if you could talk about things and just started yappin.
Roboquest is really one of the best games I have played recently. Also one of the few titles where I really wanted to get all achievements just because it was so good. Its especially great in coop
I’m so happy to see Spiritfall get the recognition it deserves, I picked it up with the 1.0 release after seeing the amazing animated trailer and I absolutely love the game, just about 100 hours packed into it and 100% the achievements and it’s still not getting stale, the weapons are so much fun with all the unique combos via spirit blessings and enchantment, or the beautiful visuals and ESPECIALLY THAT OST, It has no right being so catchy
I don't know if it's obscure but you should really try Voidigo, very fun rogue-like/lite and one of my favorite. Plus the ambience and look of it is fantastic.
I gotta recommend Picayune Dreams, it's also a "vampire survivor like" or "bullet heaven" but it also does a lot more interesting stuff with the concept.
Skooch I love your videos and I love rouge likes even more. I have to admit that I either own or played all mentioned Games.. it's crazy how many games I played and searched in this Genre. I absolutely love this Genre. Keep up your amazing work and much love 💕 you're the kind of person I'd love to have a gaming session into the morning, forgetting all the time 😂
We knew you had taste Skooch, but you cooked here! I have played all of these except Neon Abyss (Reviews really pushed me away) and agree with your takes 100%. Stoked you gave Robo Quest a shout because it deserves so much more love and praise for how great it is. My Recommendation to you and all the saucy folks here in the comments is Tiny Rogues. Bullethell esque classbased roguelite with so much charm, player freedom with builds, and the runs usually last only about 30 minutes. Their latest update added multiple new classes, a revamped progression system, more augments to make your runs more difficult but rewarding, and of course weapons. Seriously guys it is like $6 on steam and worth every penny and more. Hope you enjoy it as much as I have watching it become better and better over the last year.
Love the list and thanks for some recommendations. I think the other OG roguelikes that u should play is Definity *Risk of Rain Returns* & *Risk of rain 2*. The other one would be *Enter the gungeon*, If i could go back in time to play this all over again i would honestly. *Giftlands* card roguelike, *Dead Cells*, *Bounty of One* i would say is another version of Brotato that i loved. I loved *Gunfire Reborn* more then RoboQuest that game was really fun . *Death Must die* and *Wizard of legend* is what im currently playing and both are amazing. Honestly too many roguelikes to say
Funnily enough, every issue you have with Neon Abyss is (at least in my opinion) absent from the best game of that style, Revita. Would definitely recommend giving it a shot! Took a couple runs to click but the boss and enemy designs keep it really fast-paced. Would also recommend Gunfire Reborn to anyone who likes Robo Quest. It's been around for much longer and has some incredibly challenging difficulty scaling (think eclipse difficulties from risk of rain 2)
So happy people are aware of Roboquest. The game was fun, but similar to Neon Abyss, it did NOT have much depth in early access. Yet the devs kept devving. Added more stages, an endgame, mini-maps, more guns, and even completely rebuilt the passive perks and items systems to go from bland stat boosts to really interesting and in depth build opportunities.
Please recommend me more Roguelikes. I need something to do between now and Hades 2.
Cogmind.
*Torture Thyself.*
Inkbound is really good
Slice and Dice is a blast. Spelunky 1 and 2 are classics.
Just for curiosity, is Roboquest made by the same devs that made Gunfire Reborn? Cause it reminds me quite a bit of that.
@@aureliodeprimus8018 no, it’s made by a French developer team called RyseUp Studios
Can someone explain y its aroguelike. Aren't the l3feos the same each time with the only change being items. That just seems more like a typical level based game
@@joeycohen7533the levels carry the same name, but the map layout is random
by your logic Super Mario Bros. is a roguelike.
I've got 140 hours since the original EA release. It's wonderful
perfect, make this a series heck yea
Perfect, I was just looking for more rougelikes!
Do I care about roguelikes? No
Do I want to look at the gameplay to expand my gaming palette? No
Do I absolutely enjoy Skooch’s videos regardless of what it is? Hell yeah
you do care about fun games
in before rougeheads get on your ass for this
Bold take to be fair, but a based skooch fan regardless
Join the cult of roguelikes my friend only then will you reach the light
Favorite part of roguelikes is getting to know them and then throwing on an unholy amount of mods that quadruples the amount of content and squares the silliness.
risk of rain 2 moment lol. I really wish roboquest and gunfire reborn had even a quarter of the amount of content mods
What roguelikes do you do this with?
The thing with neon abyss having little variety is exactly why i like it, its not everyones cup of tea, but its nice to have a game you can just boot up and mindlessly play after a long day.
Skoochy these aren't obscure.
Yeah, I knew most of these at least by name and a few because I played them
I would say they are for casuals. Rogelikes in general are obscure in a world of Call of Duty and World of Warcraft, and any games not BOI, Gungeon, and Dead Cells are obscure imo
Idk I haven’t heard of any of them🧍♂️

Ditto💯
Can't wait for hades 2 review. Counting on ya skooch
"Like Hades and Smash Bros smashed bros and had some bros" 😂😂
Great video Skooch, I actually wishlisted a couple of these!
Now do a tradtional roguelike tierlist
Fab! Great picks and reasoning and the wish to talk about them is relatable;o)
I mostly factor in, if I the mix of mechanics works for me, feels engaging and longevity/do I like to return for some Sisyphosian action. Tend to cross-binge.

- Pesticide not required: Atomicrops but condensed and bullet heaven
- RAD: isometric Beatemup as an egglaying punk
- Bomblinger: Bomberman in a Wild West setting
- Ftaghn: Ring of Pain goes Lovecraft
- Lore of Hex and Hexguardian: Tower defense on hex grid
- Cavity busters: grosser TBoI
- Boyfriend Dungeon: Persona meets SoulEater
- Kingdom Eightees and Thronefall
- Magi-craft, Neophyte, Noita, Magicka 2, sneakily grouped;o) Bio-Prototype?
The tiermatrix imo doesn't add to the ranking with small entry no. and don't refrain from replacement lists, dosed divisiveness drapes discord, engage-/enragement;o) Cheers

Good idea for a series, I'd love to see more!

I'd love to see this as a series. I'm always on the lookout for good Roguelikes.
Yeess!!!! Would love to see this become a series!
Love it, will watch the whole series with extreme prejudice
Thanks Skooch. Keep them coming!
+1 for infinite roguelike content!
Ive played rounds and across the obelisk both from your previous recommendations and both have been a blast!

reviews very well known rogue likes:

make it a series because i would love to talk about all the other games that i've played and there's a lot of them
Make this into a series
