    I have a model year 2015 V6S with the smaller screen here in Romania so my options were limited. I bought the upgrade unit from Unique Audio Developments, watched a few "how to install videos on youtube", took a deep breath as I'm not an expert, and fitted it myself in a couple of hours. How pleased was I when it all switched back on and worked first time after my efforts. The new unit works both with Android Auto and Apple Car Play (I have a Motorola and my wife an iPhone) and is a piece of cake to use (I can press the NAV button bottom right to toggle between the car's old system and the new UAD system). What more can I say ? ... I am delighted that I can use Waze and Spotify and the reversing camera still works fine ... plus, two of the world's greatest roads - the Transfagarasan and Transaplina are right on my doorstep. Living the F-Type dream! All the best, cheers!

    2015 F Type, stunning vehicle, love it to bits, but sadly my model does not support the larger screen. I have to say, though, that LR Retrofits are really good, they added cruise control and split heater control for me six months ago, first class customer service, took great care of my car, the cruise control buttons were installed seamlessly and worked perfectly first time, get used constantly, and have never ever given me any problems.

      You can get a larger screen if you really want to. They just have the old screen layout and instead of the physical buttons they layered it on via software. 4x4 Canada has a video of it as well showing how that works!

    I have a 2017/2018 V6s with the older screen, it was my intention to change it but to be honest the smaller one is fine. I heard lots of people knocking it but it works well. It obviously isn’t as good as some more modern systems but that’s not the reason I bought the car, to have the latest tech.There is much more to the at type than fancy infotainment.
    Great videos, very informative and thanks for sharing.

    Thanks Grant. Makes it a quick & easy check for people wanting it too. I've never used apple car play so it's something I'm not missing. I do miss my Navi950 I had in my VXR as it was all voice control. The biggest difference I found was that the screen in the Jag is a lot lower than what it was in the VXR so, it's as if you are taking your eyes off the road more. But hey! I would still trade in everything for the Jag, even if it didn't have sat nav etc. Great content as ever, thanks. Have a great BH weekend.

      Thanks Chris. It was quite a substantial task just for the car play, but I use it an awful lot and felt it worthwhile. Agreed about the level of the screen. Thanks for the support, as always!

    I am so tempted to do this to the Jag. I would go for the screen and the auto high beam assist! LR Retrofits is definitely the best.

      Do it ! You won’t be disappointed. I’m trying to work out if I can get the AHBA. I don’t have the front facing camera, sadly

    • @ftypedriver
      @ftypedriver 8 місяців тому

      @@MrGB_UK I got AHBA with xenons and that really isn't great. Just with any other system by any other manufacturer, the system reacts a bit slow and often ends up turning the lights down too slowly. This could be different with newer LEDs where that technology offers different approaches (not just high beam low beam).

  • @LoudModeOn
    @LoudModeOn Рік тому +1

    Alas, mine is too old to get it done, though I have to say I'm not hating the older screen and software. It reacts much faster than I was led to believe, and I can play my music through the bluetooth, so I'm good.

  • @MicJaguar

    Well mine is a 2017 but the older bumper so nope. But honestly, as my first high end car, I'm disappointed in Jaguar. Cheap Audi system, rattling, a head unit that never updates or have any useful apps even with the Jaguar service till 2027. It's pathetic. Not to mention the battery drain issue and the break away coolant lines that have just broken for no apparent reason. I will not be out hasing another Jag. My Hyundai Veloster before it got 90,000 miles before any major issues. My Jag is at 58,000 and It seems like it's just fragile. Good video.

    I've looked into this for my own 2017, which LRRetro have confirmed can take the update, the only thing putting me off is their comment that you lose some functionality of the A/C system, is this true and what A/C controls are yiu left with following the upgrade?

    • @MrGB_UK
      @MrGB_UK  Рік тому

      That is correct. You lose the ability to direct the air. All other functions work correctly, such as fan speed, temperature, screen defrost etc. you just can’t direct to feet or face via the screen. It’s something I never use anyhow, so was happy to make the sacrifice in the name of the bigger screen. If you’re in the south of the Uk, feel free to take a look at mine if you want to see the change first hand 👍🏻

    Where can I purchase the adapter for the smaller screen? I have a 2018 XE, but have the smaller screwn with buttons on the side. This is extremely disappointing, even the cheaper cars have this automatically installed and I have a luxury car without it.

    I was thinking of upgrading my 400 sport with android auto but am worried about conflicts or loss of functionality with the existing systems, climate controls for example. The reason for the upgrade is that I've been told by Jaguar that my telematics unit needs replacing because I can't connect to the internet - strange, when I put my sim card into the socket under the armrest the car was able to connect to the internet to download infotainment updates but absolutely refuses to allow me to connect to live apps or live traffic. Does your upgrade rely on the built-in telematics unit or does everything connect to the interwebs through your phone now? Thanks and great video.

    • @MrGB_UK
      @MrGB_UK  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for watching and commenting. My car doe OTA (Over the air) updates via the cars telematics still. Yes, you lose the control of the air flow for climate (where it blows, so on feet, face, windscreen etc.) However It can still be controlled for recirculaiton, temperature, windscreen defog etc. from the physical buttons on the dash. I never use the climate screen in my F Pace, so this was a worthy sacrifice for me, to enable the larger screen and update UI. I hope that helps

  • @ftypedriver
    @ftypedriver Рік тому +1

    Yes, I`ve upgraded my V6 with the small screen with the Carplay / Android Auto unit. Works really well for me and I'm quite happy with it. You can totally do the upgrade yourself and the thing that I like about it is that I can switch between Carplay / Android Auto (wireless) and screen mirroring (wired). The latter is helpful when I'm on trips and using special navigation software to find the really curvy roads. Drawback: You need to sacrifice the Jaguar built-in satnav. All changes revertable, though. Video of the installation: ua-cam.com/video/Y7EfFi7PwBk/v-deo.html

    • @Sihota
      @Sihota 8 місяців тому

      Hey quick question!
      Are you still able to control everything off the screen that you were able to control before?
      What i mean is things like the ambient lighting, I-dynamic mode settings and all the other settings you would have had control over through the old screen?

    • @ftypedriver
      @ftypedriver 8 місяців тому

      @@Sihota Yes, everything continues to work as expected, except for the SatNav button, which now is used to activate Android Auto or Apple Carplay. The one "exception" (it could be argued that it isn't really an exception) is that within Android Auto you cannot switch between songs using the control on the steering wheel. However, inside the "normal" audio menu this continues to work. The volume switch works all the time.
      Also, when activating the reverse drive AA/Apple Car play will be overlaid with the the rearview camera's view.

    There is a retrofit with a proper snapdragon processor for both the harman and bosch system. You can upgrade you screen to the large one for all F types. It retains the old system and it gives you a whole android tablet. No need to modify anything and you would have that gap in your cover completely closed not open like that.

  • @childchology

    Is it correct that the retrofit disables the ventilation direction options via the touch screen as with original screen?

    • @MrGB_UK
      @MrGB_UK  Рік тому

      Yes, that’s correct. For me, it wasn’t a big deal. I valued the functionality of the screen, over the direction of air flow. The climate spends its life on ‘auto’ in both our cars. It’s worth consideration however, and a good point well made

    • @childchology

      @@MrGB_UK when I bought the car it was its unique build spec that drew me to it, funny enough I could have bought a 2018 SVR with wide screen from Harwoods but didn’t so I suppose I made my decision then. However since owning cars with CarPlay it is a nice to have now. So do I buy a CarPlay conversion keeping the small screen or a wide screen losing vent direction🤔

      @@MrGB_UK I think our friends over the pond read these comments, where I found a forum that said a guy got hold of a wide screen and control unit from a donor F Type and fitted it to his older one and it worked, I think he had a software up date but it worked. Not sure? As well as software there might be cabling issues.

    The larger screen does not necessarily support Android Auto or Apple Carplay, depends on the software version. I'm looking at buying a 2019 registered F Type with the larger screen, but dealer tells me screen software doesn't support it. They say that upgrading the software could brick the screen ECU and so are reluctant to do it.

I can play movies and have apple car play and the sound system actually sounds better. It has a Jagua car back drop and shows the all types of additional information for example RPM, speed, direction, engine temps, and special gauges, it also allows you to install google apps so you can control mods to the car and has bluetooth and can add in car wifi for the kids with plan to sim card.

    Car play and android auto isn't the key selling point here. It's the fact that it's more modern tech so will likely respond better to touch inputs and just be smoother. The user interface will also be far nicer in the new one. I learned about the car play and android module for the older unit recently so that might be an option for some if the want the older car but I'll have to see what's available when I'm ready to buy
