Roger Taylor's backing vocals (A compilation)

- I don't think people often give enough credit to Roger as a singer. He had a more consistant singing technique than Freddie, and therefore often sings the high notes for Freddie in live performances, and sometimes even takes up the lead vocals. Not to mention, his raspy singing voice is incredible, and it perfectly harmonized with Freddie's whenever they sang together

its deja vu, my man. i suggest you watch this video a few more times to make sure that you've actually watched it before
Damn I felt the same so I just kept watching it.

Love the voice of Fred
Love Freddie ❤ love Rogers vocals👑👑👑👑🥀
I love how when Roger talks, his voice is very sweet. But when he sings, his voice BLasTs you with power.

Roger is totally amazing. 😊
yess i love rogers voice
True
Ohhhh does he ever
Freddie knows how wicked of a singer Roger is
Indeed, it’s quite a shame that Roger usually underestimate his vocal abilities. I guess it’s just what happens when you’re in the same band as Freddie Mercury
@@obsidianobserver you can't have 2 queens inside the same castle 💓
Elizabeth Reyes But you can have 4 queens in the same band :)
@@obsidianobserver freddie entered the band after it was created by Brian, Roger and the first singer of the band. Roger started by playing the drums cause probably that's what he loved doing and he could have been the lead singer if he wanted to before freddie entered the band so I don't think that it's freddie's fault or responsibility for what Roger did or should have done
@Pure Fun Ikr
The most underrated drummer in rock history.
Roger is a hell of a drummer.
Not underrated, fantastic
Another being Rick Allen
He’s been noted as one of the top 8 drummers of all time. You’d have to google the details about that statement though…I don’t recall the specifics.
@@susanmetz9892 I have never found anything that says that, and it's so annoying.
@@plumpychump1165back in the day, I was a teenager when Rick lost his arm and I remember thinking, "dl is gonna have to find a new drummer." Then I read Joe Elliot said they were going to figure out a way for him to play drums with his feet ( not in those words) and I remember thinking, (wtf? You don't keep a one armed drummer.
Then once I saw him playing again he blew me away. Some people turn their hardships into triumph. Rick is an inspiration to the world. Much respect.
Freddie: in the lap Of The gods
Roger: WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
His falsetto is 🔥
That was an A5 my friend
Jajajajajajajjaja indeed
Lap of the goooooods
roger is WAAAAAAYYYY underrated
as a singer, yes
He's a devil on the drums !
@@phoebe5843 he’s a fairly average drummer tbh mate, great vocally whilst drumming which is skilful but as a drummer, average.
I personally wouldn’t call him “average”. He, along with John, has been called “a colossal sonic volcano whose eruption makes the earth tremble”, so he is definitely not an “average” drummer. Not the best, there are people far better, but certainly not even close to just being average.
@@deleted4687 says an 10 year old kid
the fact roger can hold that high note for over 23 seconds in ‘39 is crazy. it’s cute how you can hear freddie trying to encourage him to keep the note longer too.
Roger and Freddie are equal it just sucks that he didn’t get more songs to sing. But roger could’ve been just as good of a lead singer as freddie
What do you mean "hold that note for 23 seconds"? You can hear pauses for breathing several times. It's still impressive, but it's not a super long note.
@@MarcelVos That's not what he means by 'holding the note', you can pause for breaths in the middle of the note, but to keep the same note and then raise it without your voice cracking or you losing key is impressive.
Try holding a high C and move it up to a high G, most people, myself included will start to have their voice crack, or their voice will just give out and no sound will come out, so for Taylor to hold such a high note and then raise that note even higher without breaking it is impressive.
@@Jo_Wardy I think in terms of singing ability they are equal. But Freddie's voice is much more iconic.
Queens harmony is a legendary trademark🔥 👑👑👑👑❤️🔥💕💕💕💘sing 🎶Roger baby sing 🎶
In any other band Roger Taylor could or would be the lead singer, and we’d be saying that he has a great voice. He just happens to be in a band with one of the greatest voices.
Well he has a band called the cross where he is the lead
@@clairefaulkner4852 Yep and he also has a solo career
Yup Brian is also an amazing singer

I once met a former coworker of his father. I think it was a few weeks ago, in fact. It was at a local record store I frequent and I happened to be buying Queen albums that day. Had a nice conversation with him, too. Told a couple work stories, mentioned going to a couple of Queen gigs when they were still performing in bars, and I found out Harold May had a nickname. As the guy left the record store that day, he said, "Remember, Harry May!" That was probably the greatest day of this year for me so far, besides getting my first guitar last week, and I'll never forget it.😌

3:53 here he's the lead voice
because the audience held Freddie’s mic making him unable to sing, and Freddie, probably knowing that Roger will carry that part anyway, just let it go and interacted with the audience

Roger's falsetto in "in the lap of the Gods" sounds so magical 😍😍
1:43 well done John for dodging the beer bottle. Very smooth ;-)
Wow, didn’t even notice that until you pointed it out.
What the-? Didn't see that before lol...
I read Freddie once saying that after night after night on tour, he'd start to just totally lose his voice...and when that would happen, he'd just move his lips and Roger would just jump in and start singing lead!
yep, and Don’t Stop Me Now in Japan 79’ is a perfect example of that
Roger always had Freddie’s back. I think the way they worked together was amazing. Those four men were just magic, no pun intended.
Roger had a higher voice and therefore the queen songs weren't as impossible for him to sing

I think that every member of Queen could be a lead singer in any other band that didn't have a Freddie in it. This is why they did their own back vocals. They all had good voices
John Deacon could not sing.
10:50 he sounds incredibly AutoTune. Fantastic!
He is as excellent as Freddie was, in a different style, of course his thing was drumming, but his contribution to the succes was huge in every respect. He is a great performer and person. Lovely! Lovely, lovely!
Well said, I love and admire Roger deeply, he's my ídol.
You got it!!
Roger Tailor indeed hasba voice,, you cannot go into a groups or band if you don't know how to sing,,,of have a zigzag voice but we cannot compare Roger in the likes of Freddie nor Lambert coz the two were belter in the name of music,,, ,,Roger!!!!! We cannot deny that he sooooo good in drums,,, When he starts (Roger) with Brian May,,,
he's in drums not a font man!!!
Ti's was I learnt from the beginning
Brian & John completed the entire package! All 4 wrote, performed, contributed. All 4 were needed to make this magic music!
They’re voices complimented each other. Their blend was perfect!! Freddie knew from the beginning their harmonies would make the “Queen sound”. Something very unique to build on and he wasn’t wrong. Even Freddie’s baritones blend with Roger. You can really hear it on Who wants to live forever. The best music of all time!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Perfect
Everyone needs a friend like Roger.
Such a rock and roll voice. You’d never know it from hearing him speak.
I like how, with certain parts of certain songs, Roger often jumped in/sang louder or higher when Freddie was struggling in the later years
its actually part of their vocal harmony, where Roger would often sing the higher notes and Brian sings the lower ones
The blending of Freddie’s and Roger’s voices sound perfect!
I remember an interview from the 80's where Roger introduced himself as the drummer and one of the singers of Queen and rightfully 👏
and i remember in that same interview John introduced himself as "John Richard Deacon, born on 19th of August 1951", and he goddamn is
@@obsidianobserver lmao, they really decided to speak facts that day

@@heisenberg1788 And no Neil fucking Peart, and no Ginger Baker, and no Barriemore Barlow, and no Vinny Appice, and no Carmine Appice.
We're talking about the QUEEN of drums, ROGER FUCKING TAYLOR!!!!!
Hey is a fantastic drummer. Always On Point. You Know his Style when you hear him Play.
Underrated absolutely
Never heard any error, right for the perfect sound of the band, but John Bonham is the god, much more feel and waaaay better sound, but he sometimes missed. My dream is to one day hear a Bonzo drum behind Queen music
I once read that as Freddy became less able due to illness that during concerts Roger would be able to tell that Freddy was struggling so he would sing with him to take some stress off his voice. Great friends
asdffghjkl Roger's backing vocals always send me I love them so much his voice is so amazing

LMFAO your username 😭 and I agree.
1:41 Lets just take a moment to honour Brian's beautiful mut guitar playing🙌
It’s the Freddie’s lead and Roger’s backing vocals that gave the band it’s signature sound I think. The blending is sheer perfection.
Brian's guitar playing and the Deaky amp erasure.
I honestly think Queen would not have been the same if even one band member had been different.
And that includes the, in my opinion always underrated, John Deacon.
7:05
Roger: Let me out!
John: no
Roger speaks like a angel but sings like a motorcycle.
Best description
drumming and rocking vocals? the guy is a rock god
As a kid, the thing that surprised me the most about queen were their backing vocals. They were on spot, just as good as Freddie's singing.
When Freddie couldn't (or didn't want to risk his voice trying to) pick up the high notes, Roger was right there saying, "No problem, man. I got this!"
From what I've heard over the many years of being a fan, both Roger and Brian are in a close fight for second-place when it comes to being the voice of Queen.
Roger wins
Sometimes I do wish I could hear Bri
hearing this i dont know why roger just didnt become the lead singer instead of adam lambert
I see people making this comment a lot, and I think they forgot about the fact that, even when Adam started to collaborate with Queen in 2011, Roger had already been 63 by then. And although he still lead sang some of his songs (A Kind Of Magic, These Are The Days, ...), you can see that his voice started to lose its prime. And Queen songs are hard to sing, especially for Roger’s age. So it’d be totally reasonable as to why Roger doesn’t front Queen
Also doing the lead singing for a whole show while drumming is pretty much impossible I'd imagine
Roger always admitted he was nowhere near Freddie’s level of vocal skill. And Roger rightly gives Adam credit for being a better singer than he is/was (you can dislike Adam all you want, but anyone with an ounce of musical training will tell you his vocal skills are impressive). At his peak, Roger couldn’t sing a lot of Queen songs. He always had trouble singing low, his supersonic falsetto was gone by his 40s, and his voice, while still right on pitch, has gotten very thin with age. And so you know where I am coming from, though I love Freddie, and LOVE Queen as a whole, Roger is hands-down my favourite. I get annoyed to no end when people praise Freddie, but ignore Roger’s contributions. I think he absolutely was underrated (unnoticed) as a singer. I love the sound of his voice at every age, but he could never be a lead singer now.
He totally could have...the only thing I can come up with is that he just didn't want to be a lead singer.
@@midnightrose2127 No it’s not that. Roger is too old to become the lead singer of the band. His voice isn’t the same. Same thing for Brian. Besides that he plays the drums and it’s nearly impossible for him to do all those things in the same time. Adam is a great singer and people should stop hating him just because he’s singing for Queen (I’m not saying that you hate him). He has an incredible vocal (better than most of nowadays singers), he’s a big Queen fan (just like us), he knows their songs and he’s a great frontman and the most important, he’s not trying to be Freddie. I respect him even tho I’m not his fan. In conclusion Roger can’t be the lead singer of Queen
Best unreal Falsetto ever... period. I always thought it's a soundeffect. NO it's Roger unbelievable Taylor
My favorite one is In The Lap Of The Gods, Always loved his high falsetto.
I dont think the high falsetto is in the normal lap of the gods but in rainbow they did that

1:43 I will never understand people who throw stuff onstage. That could've easily hit John
Some do it respectfully, just hoping for a moment of acknowledgment from someone in the band. I was in a front-row seat at a Cars concert in the 80’s, and I threw a black rose on the stage. I got a mouthed “thank-you” from one of the band members. Great memory.
7:05 PLSS "let me out!" "no"

Fantastic drummer, fantastic backing vocalist. Not sure many people realise just how musically skilful it was to do both to such a brilliant level that Roger did. A superb rock vocalist in his own right, he complemented Freddie perfectly.

for anyone who wants to hear roger’s voice in lead, listen to the cross! he made a second band in the late 80s which he fronted, it has some great tunes!
Yes so true!!! I would personally recommend Shove It and Cowboys & Indians cos those 2 songs are such bops
I Love.the part when Fredde calls Roger Blondie and the way Freddie was stood right beside him made me laugh.😂
Can I just say that is is really hard to sing while playing drums?
Roger taylor:no
You missed Sheer Heart Attack. On a perfect night, Freddie and Roger's voices blend together perfectly.
Freddie, thoughout his career, had throat problems. If his voice dropped out, Roger was always singing the same thing so there was no gap in the vocals.
I swear i want a version of Roger singing another one bites the dust as the lead singer
Freddie has a awsome voice and perfect vocal range as a lead singer !!
Roger has a nice high tone.
Their voices make a pefect harmony.
I LOVE THAT🤩
Singing backing vocals with the greatest vocalist ever and still amaze people with your singing is a damn achievement!
I could listen to Roger's dreamy powerful voice all day
One of the best drummer in the world
3:20 rare footage of Brian May playing the wrong note
He actually messed up a lot in Crazy Tour
If in the Crazy Tour Freddie still had his Jazz tour voice, it would’ve been Queen’s worst tour. Luckily Freddie made up for the poor shape of the band with some amazing vocals.
The thing is, Queen would never sound like it did if it wasn't for Roger 's voice. I love this man!!❤❤
Rogers voice is beautiful he’s so talented I love him so much
I love this video so much, I can’t tell you. Freddie’s voice is definitely better, but Roger is my favourite overall. For his vocal talent, musical talent, and who he is as a person. I seek out every little snippet where you can clearly hear his voice. Not easy, because Freddie’s mic is, for obvious reasons, pushed to the front of the sound.
In case you haven’t heard it, I’d recommend you listen to this: ua-cam.com/video/FelrCwGaRqs/v-deo.html. It’s a Freddie and Roger duet from around 1988 at The Miracle’s recording session. An absolute gem

And he demonstrated it , I couldn’t believe it. You can’t comprehend how good RT is and it’s just natural to him 🥁❤️ 🎤 and he’s a great drummer too who has his own style.
I have a cal of him and Freddie singing ‘39 one side and Bonham on the other printed on the front of my bass drum head.. my 3 icons
Omg im so obsessed with Rogers Voice 🤌🤌🤌🤌🤌🤌🤌🤌🤌
I always felt like they made the perfect band because you had Roger's heavy metal voice, Brian's "hair band" voice, and Freddie's voice, that defies genre. Put them all together, and it's pure magic!
His voice has a very AC/DC esque tone to it and i love it, both him and Freddie had amazing vocals (Freddie being Nr.1, sorry Rog)
If it come to lead singer I could have been Roger or Brian or both, their voice is better than anyone else. Brian, Roger and Freddie told in a documentary: Brian: We had a gift. We had three voices
really blended instantly. Freddie had this wonderful crystal clear sharp vocal sound
Roger: Naturally I have got the powerful high voice
Freddie: He has got the dog whistle pich, very high voice
Brian: I have got the warm sound - I suppose. If you put the 3 voice together it sounded some kind of paravision. Yes, Roger was just absolutely amazing, singing at the drumm. They were equaly good. Freddie was the best showman and had the most amazing voice, but the three of them together made it so-so wonderful.
