I remember back in the day how highly regarded the name Larry Perkins was and still is for that matter. If P.E built a car for you then you knew it would be second to none. Hats off to you Jack and your Dad for preserving these iconic cars.
This is one of the best videos I have watched recently. Bathurst 1993 is very special to me. On the eve of the great race that year, I was having a beer with 2 mates at a local Sydney suburban RSL Club. At about 10pm that evening, we were talking about the Great Race and regretting not being there. 5 minutes later were in the car and on our way. Arrived at Mt Panorama at 1:00am and did some soothing circle work in a paddock before sleeping in the front seats. Woke up hours later to my first ever Bathurst 1000. Watched Larry do laps all day in this car and cheered until I had no voice left. My first Bathurst. Legendary car and driver. Great work guys!
Thank you for giving us a look through this window into the past. When Australia had a bit of industry and the sport was manufacturing race machines from cars off the shelf. You and your dad should be very proud of your achievements.
Great Video Jack, Your attention to detail is outstanding. Loved the bit about the painted and non painted bumper bolts. Keep up the good work, looking forward to seeing some updates in the future
Wow... just wow. Some beautiful work going on here, thumbs up to all involved in these restorations. The attention to detail is outstanding in every respect. Keep up these videos, they are great... Would be nice to get Larry on a few to explain some in depth technical details as to why he did things his way and what he thought the advantage was at the time. Have a great new years Larry, Jack and family and I really appreciate these videos... :)
Well done to you and it’s great to see the farming side of the family as well Looking forward to seeing what you show us going forward Keep up the great work 👍
A big thank you Jack for doing these youtube videos. I met Larry at Calder in '71 when I was a young teenager pit crewing for Max McGinley who was racing his Vee at the time. Larry and his brother Terry (am I correct it's Terry?) stopped for a chat on the dummy grid. From memory Larry was just back from Europe. Something else I remember from that weekend was Agostini was racing and there was a big promo event with Ago judging Victoria's Beauty Queen or something similar. The girls were told to select a car to sit in and then stand by on the grid for the judging. As they walked into the dummy grid Max said to one of the girls "you're in this one" being Max's Vee. Max and Ago obviously had the same taste in women as she was the one he selected for Victoria's Beauty Queen !! I kept up with Larry's European racing via Racing Car News and the other racing publications at the time, then his career once back home, I always cheered for Larry !! best regards, Geoff Dunstan, Merimbula NSW
You Jack...Just to listen to your passion for your Fathers car is truly amazing, Have been able to see the fist restoration at Philip Island in March 2020 I know what will be turned out will be stunning. Congrats, from a Kiwi
Keep them coming. Just picked up the 1993 Toohey's 1000 today. Watching it right at the moment. Remember the race like yesterday. One of my favourite races in Bathurst races. Jack u are doing a fantastic job restoring yr dad's cars. Hope to see these cars in the flesh one day. All the best to u n yr dad. Perkins Engineering absolute legends.
Loved the video. I loved VNs and VPs so much I owned one of each. Have always regretted selling both and would love to get a couple more and restore them.
Great work Jack!!!!, its great to see how PE is putting these ikon’s back together in there originality and the apple didn’t fall far from the tree🤣. Your old man is a true Aussie legend and where all loving the videos and hope there’s heaps more coming😁.
sweet cars. i have a brand new, never used, bare vn/vp shell still in factory primer not yet with seam sealer, taken direct from GMH production line, with hang on panels in my shed. cheers.
Fantastic, Jack. Just found your channel earlier today. I've always had great respect for LP and you and he have brought back some great memories. Very happy to subscribe and look forward to what is ahead. Cheers, Ken
Great Video Jack- wonderful to see 557 other who also like your video, and how anyone of the 2 dopes managed a thumbs down is beyond me and any " normal " appreciative motorhead. 11/10 Jack- thanks mate.
As soon as you said the VP had been converted to VR/VS I cringed because I knew how much work would be involved to change them back. I just wish you guys filled in that small seam under the tail lights on the corners. I get it's going back to how it was in 93 but that seam is an eye sore and was something I always wanted to remove when I had a VN SS. Also would love to get some insights into the Holden V8 vs Chev V8. I'm assuming that they went to Chevs due to them being basically a NASCAR engine and thus development was easier because a lot had already been done.
Would love to see a rundown of the engine management of the time and a comparison to current Motec etc. I think Perkins ran Autronic didn't they? Also would love to see the dyno session when it's time to tune.
Not true at all, we are very fortunate to have lots of the original gear from 1993, including: Race Winning Holden Engine, Diff Housing, Shockers, Pedals and Pedal Box Assembly, SAAS Seat, LP Switch Tower and Wiring Loom, Fuel Tank, Fuel Collector, Oil Tank, Pump Mounts and more!
No way he'd be able to go into this much detail back when these cars were racing.. Hehe if someone like him was discovered in the workshop filming, they would get their ass kicked, thrown out and their film would have been torn out of their camera and destroyed
Would good to see the car when finished with the Holden engine not a Chev engine! Then at Bathurst LP could do a 2--3 laps in the car EXACTLY as it was in 1993!!!!
I could never stand Holdens, have always been a Ford man to the point where Peter Brock in 1995 refused a ride to the airport in my LTD because it was a Ford, but I always loved and barracked for Larry Perkins. A true champion and gentleman. Thanks Larry.

So informative Jack, these cars are in such good hands and would love to see them up close when finished.

Jack, my first time here, and I've thoroughly enjoyed this video. The details you've taken us through on both cars, fascinating. Thank you

When you think Supercars, You think Larry Perkin' amongst many names who we enjoyed watching back then. Not forgetting Larko. Great video Jack.
Legendary car love this so much. So good how Larry got to use his gun motor in 93. Too good for Gibson Commodore.
That drink bottle was the rage in the 80s...I think everyone in my family had one :)
Thanks Jack, a great insight into the what goes happens with a a complete resto job.
Can't wait til PE017 is finished! Looks absolutely beautiful!
Is that a Ford indicator switch i see. 9" now blinker switches lol. Great videos, so much respect for you an ya old man. Keep it up
Haha yes, great spot! Ford parts on a Holden!!
I have been a big fan for 30 years keep up the good work.
Great to this sort of restoration happening to iconic race cars and who better to do it than the original builders.
sweet cars. i have a brand new, never used, bare vn/vp shell still in factory primer not yet with seam sealer, taken direct from GMH production line, with hang on panels in my shed. cheers.

Great Video Jack- wonderful to see 557 other who also like your video, and how anyone of the 2 dopes managed a thumbs down is beyond me and any " normal " appreciative motorhead. 11/10 Jack- thanks mate.

Great stuff, would love to know what your daily drivers are, and what you might drive on the weekend on the road. Cheers.
LP drives a 2003 Mercedes Benz C180 Kompressor and his weekender is a Toyota Landcruiser and/or Mercedes Unimog. JP drives and Isuzu Dmax ute!
@@perkinsengineering Cheers for the reply, hopefully the season on the farm was decent enough that LP can update the merc :D
Very nice work here guys 😀

Great work mate. Looking forward to 2021 seeing them finished.
Very enjoyable cheers
Amazing work 👏 👏
hi jack i grow up watch your dad all years ago
Great work boys👍hey will Larry let some secrets out on that Holden winning engine ?
As soon as you said the VP had been converted to VR/VS I cringed because I knew how much work would be involved to change them back.

haha yeah they needed to do it back in the day so we could do it now!
Jack well done good job. 👍
Very cool Jack 💯%👍🏁🇦🇺
This is so awesome.
Great video...Noticed at the 16.55 mark tho that the Moroso Rocker Cover is upside down tho ?!!
They are a symmetrical rocker cover until we modify them to take oil squirters, sometimes they were modified with the logo upside down 🙃
Thanks Jack that waas great
Love the video Jack
Would love to see a rundown of the engine management of the time and a comparison to current Motec etc. I think Perkins ran Autronic didn't they? Also would love to see the dyno session when it's time to tune.
Thats correct, Autronic systems on both these cars! Yes there will definitely be dyno footage in the dyno when the Holden is on there!
really interesting mate
Awesome Job Jack :)
Great video.
Where do you guys get the plastic covers from?
We were getting them online via ebay, however the price has now tripled so we are looking at new options now!
Awesome ❤️👍
Good stuff!
Hi there Jack, great videos! Curious as to why the boot garnishes are VN spec and not VP? Cheers Scott.
Great vid
Great video Jack, looks like on PE019 you guys are using a XC/XD Falcon VDO indicator stalk?
Great spot, thats correct, an OEM Ford part on the PE Holden's! These indicator stalks were used right up until the VT's!
Larry with his lights on.
Damn I was hoping it was a gtr restoration.
Awesome...
Where can I get a perkins t shirt? Pe has been a favourite from years ago !
Man this is cool,
Literally really the only original items that crossed the line in 93 would be the roll cage
Hope these cars get driven hard like they use too
Postage to nz up yet JP, I need one those hats asap.
We don't have an automatic postage service to NZ, but we have posted to NZ on a case by case scenario.
like it
Also... Where can I get 1 of those tees you are wearing?
Our website, perkinsengineering.com.au, shop online 👍👍
@@perkinsengineering Ordered! Thank you! All the best Perkins guys.....
Is it paint or stickers?
PPG paint! Signwriting will happen in 2021
Id love 1
No way he'd be able to go into this much detail back when these cars were racing.. Hehe if someone like him was discovered in the workshop filming, they would get their ass kicked, thrown out and their film would have been torn out of their camera and destroyed
Hahaha bit different today isnt it !
Would good to see the car when finished with the Holden engine not a Chev engine! Then at Bathurst LP could do a 2--3 laps in the car EXACTLY as it was in 1993!!!!
The 1993 car is getting restored with the race winning Holden engine from 1993.
@@perkinsengineering No doubt will expensive but for the 93 car it MUST be the Holden engine!!!!
@@barryphillips7327 it is!
Real shame you couldn’t get the original v8 for the VP
Which VP? We have the original Holden V8 for the 1993 car and we have a period correct Chev for the 1994 car
I could never stand Holdens, have always been a Ford man to the point where Peter Brock in 1995 refused a ride to the airport in my LTD because it was a Ford, but I always loved and barracked for Larry Perkins. A true champion and gentleman. Thanks Larry.
