LP is a genuine legend-F1, Lemans entries, last winner in Holden engine and true champion of the sport.... I loved him as a kid and have can't believe he isn't more celebrated. A true Australian Legend!
class of the field on and off the track. I could listen to Larry speak for hours and Ia'd be hanging off his every word. A PERSONAL HERO FOR OVER 30 YEARS
Outstanding interview. Larrys balanced and "big picture view" on his sport wins my admiration. Ex Formula One driver and Bathurst winner in his own engineered car. One of the Australian touring car greats in My view.
Peter was a driver not a engineer you don't get to the top without a strong team behind you .difference is Larry knew the driver of his car better than anyone
Brock was very good at mind games and the Holden Dealer Team manipulated the governing body massively. The likes of Larry Perkins and Dick Johnson engineered themselves and their cars to victory against the odds. Both were superior drivers when compared to Brock but he had the mental edge in the endurance races.
High quality questions posed by an excellent interviewer (who?), and enhanced by these typically straight-bat answers from the very talented, no-bs 'tell it like it is' Larry Perkins. Thanks for posting it!
That's why we love Larry. I love the view of give the advantage to the little guy to make them competitive. It would be great if the small guys got extra testing, or some money from the series to build up a little more, to make it more of an egalitarian sport than a "winner takes all" sport. Which is the path that F1 went down...
Perkins is an example of 'Work smarter, not harder'. He couldn't throw money at the problem, so he engineered the problem out of existence What he said about the 'Once a year' drivers, I think it would be good to see a combined field of Supercars and Super2 instead of having the two separate races. Also 7:22, no pit lane speed limit back then?
Haha. “Socialism in motorsport “. Larry foresaw the future of Australia. Socialism by passed motor racing and went all the way to Canberra. And the entire country is worse off for it. Great interview 🏁🏁

@H HOUR HOTEL he did several F1 races...Just checked he did 11 F1 races. Was also European F3 champion.
People go on about Peter Brock which I get, but he never had half the smarts or the class of Larry in my book.
he had the smarts to have Larry as a co-driver for 3 years ;)
Brock was an amazing touring car driver, but if you look at what happened when he ran Team Brock, it shows how much better LP was outside the car.
@@ruxtonau And LP ran the workshop side of things. Brocky did the PR and brought the money in. Great teamwork

A very humble and talented engineer and driver. An inspiration to me and remember oils ain’t oils Sol
Always admired Larry, he is a very clever Man, and was a great driver
The greatest driver engineer we’ve had. Along with Brabham.
He is a great just as enzo, bruce and britten. A gentleman.
Great interview. Larry is a legend.
What a great interview. Great questions. LP is right up there with Jack Brabham IMO.
7:23 No pit lane speed limit in those days!
IKR wow!
Write a Book Larry. It'll sell like hot cakes. C'mon people who's with me?

I’m a ford man through and through. But I always barracked for Larry Perkins. Consummate champion and genuine legend.
Aussie motorsport Royalty. Doubtless. 🤘🤘🤘
175k for a brand new Larry Perkins built, Holden engined race Commodore.. bargain.
the sport is so professional and technical today a once a year driver has no chance

Back in the days when there was no pitlane speed limit and the pacecar was as rare as a Bunyip
Did you ask him why the Holdens were aloud to change there aero package for the sandown 500 and Bathurst ?
Holden 304 Power
@H HOUR HOTEL you didnt understand who won? the last time the 304 went to bathurst

Great interview 🏁🏁
It’s easy when ya bend the rules …..just didn’t get caught .
That's the 11th commandment. Don't get caught 🤘🤘
What rules did he break or bend?
Larry was smarter than anyone else, that’s why he won
