Matt is competing in his MGB at Mt Panorama in the Group S support race at the Bathurst 12 hour race in February 2018. This is the first laps of races 1 & 2.
in 1977 i worked at mg workshops an old hot 1963 MGB cam in 1 3/4 su carbs and extractors thermo fan hot coil and distributor = beat 351 gt car `s up to 80 mph street ! great fun at 21 !
WOW! This MG can haul the mail. I've had 4 MGBs and love the heck out of them. If maintained right, they will give you mile after mile of good driving fun. It's really too bad they're no longer made.
The engine is ready to go back together, the gearbox has been rebuilt and the entry is in for next years Bathurst event. If the planets align, it could be very interesting.
Love the videos, please keep posting! unfortunately where I live there are no such races (no races at all actually) but has been extremely delightful to watch you drive.
Mum had an MGB GT I used to drive it when I was 19. Dad bought a BMW 323i in 1981, suddenly the MG looked really old fashioned, the BMW would do 70 in second gear . 40 years on Mum gave me the MG and ive gradually worked through it to get it going really well , I now wonder why all the fuss about the BMW. The MGB , looks good , sounds great , handles well and for not much money can be made to go REALLY well . What a great car In many ways a better car than that BMW
Typical MGB tacho. Not enough eddy current damping in the meter movement. Fun fact: Mount Panorama has the greatest elevation change of any circuit in the world, including Nürburgring..
I hope the guy in that corvette,s mates were not watching.225hp is about all an MGb can make on petrol. They are great cars That porsche is as lame as... The vette should be 450hp+ even using 1970 factory parts
You've probably never driven Mt P. You can win with gearing unless you're in something with 6 gears and a big V8. You either have the right gears for Conrod Straight or the right gear ratios for the rest of the track. It really isn't possible in a humble MG to have both.
@@regenmeister9646 I've personally only driven Mt P at one meeting and it was wet. I take my hat off to anyone that drives it at race speeds. My experience with Mr Needham isn't great but I agree that getting everything right is important. Matt's gearbox was playing up big time and he was having a lot of trouble selecting gears. Still spectacular

@@GriffinRacingMG good luck guys keep the mg spirit!
The blue Corvette is a wallowing pig..perfect match for the driver.

Well done Morris Garages!!👍
Hail to all the guys and cars that make competition possible! 😳😎😋❤️
Great driving but I'd want a full roll cage!
It can’t be an MGB, there’s no oily smoke! Though it sounds like a BMC gearbox and clutch.
Beautiful
Tell you one thing that guy in the white Porsche 911 has balls be driving that car around that track like that
Really enjoyed. Have c3 so added treat.

The gearbox/bad shifting was too much to watch after the first lap!
Scary !

Wrong gearing for that track ... too much time in the Red Line

@@GriffinRacingMG Driven Bathurst multiple times ... John Needham will cut the right gears for you ... much to learn Grasshopper

@regenmeister9646 I'd say you've never driven an MG. They are not known for straight line speed but for the rest of the track. Pure sports car.

Someone needs to learn how to change gears correctly, it might allow one to go a bit faster and less loss of time.
It’s incredible how many experts are on here giving there advice freely.
Salut my friend super car super video subscribe subscribe .....
Over revving that poor b series. And flat shifting, poor heel n tie technique, missing gears....
I'm surprised it lasted a full race.
I agree. Racecraft could be better too. But it's over 40 years since I raced an MGB (and won) so maybe the engines are more resilient today.
