Veteran Trawls the Delta, Dives Deep Into Fisheries Careers with CCC

After gaining his sea legs in the U.S. Navy, Josafat Ismael Alvarez III-he also goes by Joe-decided to join the #CaliforniaConservationCorps to dive deeper into a career in fisheries. As part of the CCC-NOAA Veterans Fisheries Program, Joe is helping the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service monitor fish populations living in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, close to his hometown of Stockton. He is learning a lot, everything from how to measure water quality to identify native and invasive fish species living in the delta. The data he, and the team, collects will help state and federal agencies understand the status of fish species of concern.
