ABOUT ME:
I was a former corpsmember at the California Conservation Corps center in Tahoe. I accomplished much in the C’s, such as being president, gaining work experience, and acquiring certifications. The goal of my videos is for potential and current corpsmembers to have a better understanding of the CCC program.

I was at Tahoe Center back in 2013 to 2015. Some of the best years of my life. I worked alongside Adam Landphere, a red hat who was the reason for the "Tahoe Strong" mantra, and he was so fun to hang out with, work with and i was so proud of him when he supergraded. He died during my 1st year. Ill never forget him.
I did my Arbor training on the big tree up the hill from the smoke pit.
Ill never forget the people i worked with. The countless fires were made it through as a team. The mornings we had to dig our way through snow just to get to our vehicles. Ill never forget the hikes, camping trips with friends, spikes, and ill especially never forget the wild weekends we used to have together after each spike and fire. I found an appreciation for people and nature that i thought I'd never have, and im grateful for it.
If youre hesitant on going to Tahoe Center or the CCC in general, dont be. It was amazing and i have countless stories. Tahoe Strong!!!

@a.boss.__09 if your a guy, I'd say say sign up as soon as possible. You'll most likely go on a wait list. If you're a girl, sign up whenever, since they usually get hired on fast. I signed up about 3 months before June, and I got there during summer

i got to go to tahoe from los padres for a cooking thing it was tight. it was the first time we started traveling to do things from the kitchen. raven was so nice you guys are lucky to have her! she really cares about her food

Comet is by far the most boring part of your stay at the CCC but it was worth it!

I worked in the Ucc for a year so I was used to this type of work but everyone was more relaxed and chill so I loved going on spike with the Ucc we worked hard but we played hard afterwards. In the Ccc you just work hard go to bed and work hard the next day. I’m all for working hard but sorry I didn’t join the military so I’m not going to act like im in it acting all straight edge like all the try hards in Ccc

Go watch the Ccc San Jacinto spike video I left a comment to explain the hours I was working. That hike is one of the hardest in California supposedly. So it’s not that I can’t work hard lol I hiked to the work sight and back to the truck the next morning so I could go back home so like 27 miles total in 2 days That’s how much I didn’t like the Ccc. They were so Straight edge it was wack.
At least your COMET involved more than just sitting in a classroom for 10 hours straight. Hell we were only taught half the things we were supposed to learn because the center was understaffed because everyone was quarantined or on emergency

My friend went in a week ago (he left for Camarillo);however he had no cell phone....so it's a mystery where he is. If I call the Camarillo Training Center, will they give out his COMET mailing address,etc. ?
I doubt he'll have a phone and provider (his 1st ever) until he gets a check or two. It's fair to assume there are payphones at the Training Centers? Reason I ask,I think he may have tried to contact me,but I won't answer anyone's call or text unless I know who it is. Your help would be appreciated

No, you get paid more now. A little over $1400. But yeah, Tahoe is beautiful man

Oh sheet! That is awesome! I mean it's not even the money, but that definitely helps. Ever since I left, I became a truck driver, and recently stopped that, I just miss being up there!!! Working hard all day, having a beer after dinner with the boys, and hitting the lake on the weekends!!! Thanks for the reply man. Are you still up there?

no, training is basically rules and safety guidelines. 95% paperwork 5% physical.

Hello Travoughn. I have relative who may be heading to COMET soon. (who happens to be enjoying your videos). Forgive me if you already answered this question..... Does COMET training now take place at the centers that noobies are assigned to? I am a CCC alumni from 1992. Back then training took place in boot camp style place in San Luis Obispo. I dont believe training was called COMET back then. but still.
oh wow, interesting to know. Yes, training now takes place at the center you signed up for. Additional training may require you to travel to different centers. Good question

I went through comet back in 1995 at the La Cima Fire Center in san Diego County run by Cal Fire. We didn't have classroom time our days were spent Marching, Hiking lots of pushups carrying logs on our shoulders getting yelled at Running getting dragged out of bed in the middle of the night to do more pushups and march around we were taught how to work as a team and after 5 days we were put into Wildland fire Training for two weeks and than assigned to a crew. Joining The C.C.CC was the best decision ever made.
Hey I was just wondering, is there a gym at COMET? or any of the residential sites?
sure there are , they are small or sometimes they have no weights like in ukiah! although comets sleep in the gym with no weights
. your best bet is to go to a commercial gym. besides everyone in the ccc can afford it. so don't worry about pay.
You’re unable to use the gym until you’re officially hired. Tahoe center had a gym, it wasn’t much but yeah aha
i want the tahoe patch :( i got one when i viseted but a guy made me buy it from him. a security guard there was like wow what a jerk i coulda gave you one for free i was like >:( uuugh

thats whats up! comet last about two weeks!
Unless it's at Ukiah then you're in comet for a week and then go on the grade. However people will still give you smack for being a comet until the next comet session.
do you get payed for comet right when it ends or is it included in the monthly stipend?
Unless they changed policy, you don't get paid for comet.

I was told you do get paid for commet as long as you stay until your first paycheck but if you leave before then you won’t get paid for commet

So if you go through COMET does that mean you can’t go home during the time you are being trained?
Correct. Unless the rules have changed. It was only two weeks during my time

How does your dorm have a bathroom? At Ukiah it's a communal bathroom and I gotta say it gets gross.

Do they do a urine test or oral swab for drug screen and isnit true there is a re test option
There is a retest option if you fail the first one. The second test is after 30 days but no longer than 60 days. According to my contract I signed in June 2023

not at the tahoe center. go to a center where they have a nearby driving school.
Ay I saw you and your girl? Anyhow me and my girl are applying right now and I was wondering what the rules are for staying in dorms together or what not. I saw that you checked if anyone was around before showing affection so I was also wondering what the rules are about that

Idk what you guys be talking about Ukiah center all day. Best projects with the most amount of work done. Right now on that hotel spike assisting the Redding center 😎😎😎 we even had a corpsmember transfer from fortuna to ukiah and is now an orange hat. Really proud of him.

Back in the day yes. I was in it 93 to 97ish ccc has it better then back when I was in
