ABOUT ME:
I was a former corpsmember at the California Conservation Corps center in Tahoe. I accomplished much in the C’s, such as being president, gaining work experience, and acquiring certifications. The goal of my videos is for potential and current corpsmembers to have a better understanding of the CCC program.

Make sure to listen to Trae. I can't tell you how many times I saw people getting trench foot in the past 11 months 12 months on July 6th.
So I was at the Los Padres center outside of San Luis Obispo around 2012 (just randomly saw the video) ... My center did make you pay to do laundry so yes bring quarters also Los Padres had a rules about what laundry detergent we used because of a gardening project so maybe hold of on getting certain laundry detergents and feel out the situation first ... Where I was we dealt with poison oak on a regular basis I'm immune so maybe I'm not the right person to ask about it but all of the over the counter creams and soaps are horrible I knew people who used them and they didn't work as well as you'd think this is maybe more of a tip than anything but get used to cold showers the problem with hot showers is it opens all you're pours which is how a small poison oak problem into a massive poison oak problem ... We had to buy a multitool also I would recommend buying you're own boots trust me it makes a huge difference and just in general I wouldn't depend on any of the stuff they issue you ... Also they did not give us any linens or pillows so take you're bedspread or a sleeping bad which is something you're gonna want to invest in anyway ... I took a small TV and a Xbox which was huge because yes the CCC can be boring at times if you smoke or dip take a months supply with you because they pay you after you're first month I know this seems like common sense but trust me a lot of people really didn't prepare for that ... Obviously what you need and what you should expect changes based on where you end up I was on the central coast we didn't get snow but we got a lot of rain and it would get hot outside so pack accordingly ... And lastly and this has nothing to do with what you need to bring but be very carful who you become friends with the CCC is very diverse and if you associate yourself with the wrong people it can effect your experience with the CCC I remember two guys who came in the comet right after mine coming from job core and almost immediately one of them got into a fight over something stupid and got kicked out but it also effected the other guy from job core because they instantly became friends so just be carful ... Oh also Camelpak ... Look it up it's basically a backpack for water and they do have ones that carry a liter of water I bought mine in 2012 and it still works it'll solve all your problems with water just don't put anything other than water in it or it'll be almost impossible to clean ... Hiking equipment in general is good

@@Jay_Mac1775 If you have nothing else going on or no clear plans I'd say go for it I didn't always like my supervisor but I loved the job and the people I worked with my only recommendation would be to look at other centers for me part of the CCC experience I saw new things and had to meet new people as a 31 year old man I can tell you that you only get to be that age once that kind of freedom doesn't last forever you have to enjoy it while you can because once you have kids and get married or start a career it becomes a lot harder to just goof off and do the things you want to do

Hey I want to say I’ll be going to the CCC center in South Lake Tahoe like you did, I want advice from you and if they did changed everything and know about all of this. I’ll need to see about equipment too I need for going over there

Can we take tablet, and question can we pack up all of the stuff from home, and can the ccc accept a packages like Amazon or from home?
Tablet yes, and amazon yes, from my center in camarillo anyways.
Might not need sun block for your skin tone....but it also helps for the melanoma it's a skin cancer caused by the uv radiation witch no body is immune to.

That is far from true. Darker skin tones won't turn red, but they certainly feel the extreme soreness, excessive dryness, and decreased movement from the burn. And they certainly peel too.
About the hydration pack. Do i actually need it? Or is it just for convenience?
You absolutely do need something to carry water
@ Trae Douglas when is the ccc gonna start recruiting people again since this covid-19 has apparently had everything postponed are you guys going too be postponing recruitment for months or a year your a member here soo im asking?
I had the same question, about 2-3 weeks ago I was getting ready to leave for the butte fire center but unfortunately the outbreak has gotten worse. Haven’t been able to contact my recruiter for more information.

I just picked the auburn center for residential I wanted to Delta center but they won't let me do residential there because my driver license has a stockton address so I have to choose either tahoe or auburn an I picked auburn I didn't want be far from my family because I just moved back from Florida . Also how long does it typically take for them to assign you

I had the option of auburn or stockton, I chose stockton because on the fact sheet it said it's the newest center built in 2018

You can do whatever you like with scholarship money. Car, clothes, investments, or for actual school use.
Man I might go to the Tahoe center next year I like to game a lot..... consider work for the sos program if I get accepted, Thanks for the advice I might get the wool socks for later and you know by any chance on residential centers we can take a console? I highly doubt it but just wondering Is all if not lol guess won’t be able to do my gaming hobbies and streaming

I was in ccc in 88 motto back than hardworking low pay. $400 a month room and board and in Stockton your living in a insane asylum no bs. And in pomona too

I had the option of stockton or auburn, I chose stockton partly because it's the newest one built in 2018

When I was there they did allow but most people waited until they passed comet.

@@mienzerker2572 yeah dude. My mom saved me by having good credit and taking out a loan though ill be paying her back through my checks at the ccc. Ive spent about 5 bills

Were the tests hard? And was it hard learning how to cook and having to make so much food everyday?
Did you go out on an emergency? If you did, were you able to get cell service/internet once a day or every few days?

Hey man. Im actually leaving off to tahoe on Tuesday. Im gonna buy a backpack for the school time but will that be the same backpack ill be using during work? Or would i be getting a backpack from the ccc? Because if they don't them im going to get like a tactical backpack for both. What do you say?
Because i don't want to get a tactical backpack just for school if ill be receiving one for work
They're going to give you a backpack for work. the backpack they give you is pretty good, but you could find a better one
@@TraeDouglas dang. I just came back from shopping and bought a backpack. But my packing list says to bring a backpack for day use. All good. Got me a dope call of duty tactical backpack for half the price.

No it's nothing like JROTC you will be expected to act like an adult they expect you to hold yourself accountable and do things without being told ... I went to a JROTC before going to Grizzly Youth academy and eventually the CCC in Los Padres JROTC does not prepare you for the Challege academy system or CCC at all

@@ephraimrodriguez4594 yeah non res is just living wherever you’re living now or moving somewhere closer to work. Residential you have rooms you share with up to 5 other people or more or less
@@ephraimrodriguez4594 I’m non resident so I just commute to work everyday. Unless you’re on a fire emergency, I was last weekend. We all camp in tents next to each other.
