I agree it's kinda funny but to be fair there aren't a lot of alternatives for easy to remove/temporary adhesives, there's tape which is also plastic, Elmer's glue which is made of PVA (yet another thermoplastic), a few sprays and there are several types of putty adhesives such as Blu Tac. There's probably a few I'm unaware of but you get the idea, most of the weaker and common glues are made from a plastic.
Now that you’ve shown the problem, can you do a video walking through how to put solutions to it into practice? I think its especially helpful to see social-related things, such as refusing straws and asking to have your food/drinks in your own container, because people can often feel weird about doing it (including me)
So...the solution to the problem is not to use plastic only once, use them like we use plastic tuperweare containers. Over and over again until they can't be used anymore. We could even you then for something else. Reduce Reuse Recycle ♻️. At my school in London we have the opportunity to make sleeping mats for the homeless out of milk bags 🥛🐄 .
I suggest everyone do a personal waste audit to see the most problematic items. Then you make a list of priorities and think of ways of reducing. Getting the same food items in the largest size possible or bringing your own sandwich instead of buying one. Bring a Tupperware for your leftovers when eating out, make your own cleaning products etc. The list is endless. Be creative and try to get a bit better every day. Good luck.
We had fun, and it has really stuck with us since wearing it all. Definitely recommend the challenge to others (even if it's not wearing it all, but simply keeping it out on the counter so it's visible)
I’m loving the eco-awareness videos lately. I’m an artist who recycles plastic items to make art in order to give them a value. It’s not perfect, as paints and glues are polluting, but it’s my way of spreading awareness.
Although I didn't ask my students to wear their plastic, I did a similar project with my second graders last year. The entire school had a week long project about the environment and sustainability, and as part of that we asked all students and staff members to collect all their plastic in bins for a week and at the end of the week my students made a huge mural out of all the plastic to show everyone how much plastic we collectively use in a single week without even realising it.

Such an eye-opening video! I love the odea of confronting just how much waste we produce, rather than tossing it out and ignoring it. Could you make a video analyzing solutions for plastic pollution? Maybe a zero-waste challenge? I would love to see more videos on the topic of plastic waste.
Loved this, super interesting & important to talk about, plus seeing a visual of our daily plastic use really gives it perspective. Thanks for putting yourselves out there for this, its impactful!
This is a great video! It's important for people to realise how much they use. Refusing plastic is a great way to minimise waste, but also opting for products that use recycled plastic are great to support!
• Refuse is just reduce, and rethink is just reuse+recycle. There's no bonus points for coming up with extraneous ones. ¬_¬ We can stick to the classic three plus repair; that's sufficient. • 10:28 - That's what I was thinking a moment before you said it. 👍😂 You get a free pass to act as unusual as you want. 😛 🤷
I mostly agree, having grown up knowing the three Rs of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Still, I found it nice to have those conventions challenged and examined in a different way. There are many who might reuse a bottle or container for a similar purpose, but it is less common to rethink an item and repurpose it. The idea of reducing plastic certainly includes finding opportunities to avoid using any at all, but it is helpful to rethink the concept and explore areas where one could refuse plastic normally offered. Repair, again, sounds like something that falls under reuse, but, again, I feel it's helpful to mention.
This deserve more attention and awareness from the public. You guys have opened my eyes on plastic consumption and I want to make a difference. Thank you guys so much! :)
This format is very playful yet also informative. I was a bit hesitant when I saw the change in the past couple of videos, but now I've grown to appreciate the things you guys do to educate your audience in a fun way. Though I am sad that your new podcasts isn't on YT and, for a while, thought you guys just dropped it since it wasn't what you wanted to do. Aside from that, this has made me become (or at least start to) become more aware about the plastic consumption that is in our day-to-day lives and try to find alternatives around it whenever there's an option available to me.
I did a few videos about ways to help reduce plastic use and I love seeing other people talk about these issues. The best way to help resolve these issues is to talk about them
In germany we have “Unverpackt Läden“ shops where you can buy everything without packaging. Its amazing! You bring your own container for chocolate, oats, toothpaste, soap, olive oil,.... its easy and more and more people are using this option here.

Once my economics book of class 10th said to me:- "We have borrowed this world from our future generations, Not inherited it from our ancestors" Turns out it was true!!
This experiment is so great! I think it brings out to light the plastic problem in a funny but also educational way. I would add that, yes, consumers have a part of fault in the problem, we must educate ourselves and try to help it, but companies and governments have a big responsibility in this too!! (If not the most). Sometimes we are forced to use plastic and companies can prevent that many of the times.
I love when Mitch asked “should we ban plastic?” because I think there’s a lot of misconceptions about that. For one, banning plastic doesn’t get rid of the waste. It’s still there. There’s also the idea that a lot of waste in the ocean comes from less developed countries (less that 1% is from the U.S.). Paper products also take up more space and are more expensive to ship, so why are we just switching to paper instead of trying to fix the actual problem?
Great video - I haven't gone as far as you did in terms of attaching it to yourselves, but I've been monitoring how much garbage I put out which is almost exclusively plastic wrap for food that I don't recycle as it is too contaminated with food. (my town has recycling pick-up and compost pickup and a drop-off place to bring both expanded or extruded polystyrene packaging or products) Doing this really brought to light how pervasive this issue is. Things I've changed: only buying fruit and veg that is loose; buying rice and pasta at a bulk place with my own containers, supporting vendors who ship using paper packaging and reusing wherever and whenever possible. One thing, though, bread comes wrapped in a purpose made plastic bag which helps to keep it fresh. I haven't yet figured this one out. Also, meat or meat alternative packaging, always plastic; helps to keep it fresh. I'll have to give this more thought. Thanks again for the great video.
This is brilliant! Not only are you showing yourself how much plastic you’re using, when people on the street ask you why you’re dressed in plastic chic they can have the amount of plastic the average human uses put into perspective for them!!
God. ASAP science I love you guys soo much. You have inspired me to study chemistry, but also helped me accept myself and see myself represented in the media. You guys do so much in educating people. You make me feel like everything is possible
Nice! Maybe your next project could have something to do with urban watersheds? I'm an environmental scientist in an urban environment , and a lot of people don't realize that they live in a watershed. In most cities, the storm system (outdoor drain inlets) is separate from the sewer system (indoor drains). In these areas, litter on the street makes its way directly to creeks, rivers, bays and oceans -- because storm drains were designed to convey only rain and thus are not treated. Thus, any litter on the street = in our waterways. REDUCING single use waste is an easy way for anyone to be the solution to water pollution! Thanks for spreading this message!
If you have the time, I recommend making your food from scratch. You'll use less packaging. Start small and work your way up. You could start by learning how to make hummus. There's probably a big bag of chick peas somewhere trying to get your attention :P
Loved the piece and learned a lot. I'm very conscious of plastic use but this video has opened my eyes. Very courageous to do this but it's a stark reminder of how much plastic we use and how we need to think of cutting back.
I do a decent job at the 6 R's but I can do better, and it's reinspiring to see you fellas shed light on it too. I bring my own coffee up or ask the barista to serve my iced coffee in a paper cup and my hot coffee without the lid. And I bring a glas straw with me most of the time. Of course reusable bags EVERY time I shop for groceries or go to the mall for clothing. But I want to get better at bringing my own tuppaware to restaurants! And being more adamant about the "refuse" part. 🌟
I'm so thankful you made this! It's finally a video about the issue that doesn't bring in politics. That means I can safely send it to my mother without fear! And maybe have a real conversation that isnt derailed into taking sides. Thank you!
You should take a look at how Denmark handles garbage - we actually impute garbage from other countries. We use it, for example, for heating houses and building materials for roads :) We also have a system where we pay an extra small amount of money for our bottles and cans, then we return them to the store, when they are used, and we will get the money back
I'm old and was born before plastic became ubiquitous, so I am always very conscientious about limiting plastic items. In fact I was recently outside when the garbage trucks came and one of the guys wanted to know what we do with the rest of our garbage since we generally only put the bin out every other week. I told them we eat a whole food, plant based diet and grow a lot of our own food so there is little packaging or other waste to toss. I compost organic matter, recycle or re-purpose glass, metal, boxes, and the occasional plastic bottle, so there is very little actual waste. Every little bit helps and we all need to be more aware.
I'm a Grade 3 teacher in Toronto and I did this with my students last year and they refused to do it because they were so embarrassed! The challenge was only supposed to last for one day and most of the kids were so worried about how their friends would look at them! I made them tape their plastic to their desks instead and luckily it still achieved my goal of bringing their attention to the waste they create individually!
I love that you're doing videos about our environmental and the responsibility we have (don't know how to say it properly, because it's not my mother tongue) and I really think about collecting all my plastic waste one place of my apartment, to get a feeling for the amount I use in one week. I feel like I'm not using much, because I'm trying to life as zero waste as possible. So I think it would be a great chance to learn where to reduce even more

This is such an eye-opening and informative video! Thanks guys :)
This is an amazing idea! Also the new layout of ur channel is great
If you have the time, I recommend making your food from scratch. You'll use less packaging. Start small and work your way up. You could start by learning how to make hummus. There's probably a big bag of chick peas somewhere trying to get your attention :P
This is the kind of idea I've actually had thought about but seeing it happen is amazing great job!!
It looks like a 90’s clubkid outfit..😛😜🤣
12:19/12:20 you said it.. it is FABULOUS ..🤣
this is so cool!!! really thinking of trying this, especially as it'll raise awareness for the issue too
I love the new channel format. I've been watching you for about 4 years now!!! Stay fab!! 💙💙
The most useful thing i watched in UA-cam today, well done ASAP science. I feel great that I've subscribed to you already.
This is the best video I have ever watched in my entire life in youtube.
This is such an interesting video and I actually learned a lot from it
Love that!
@@AsapSCIENCE I need to give a presentation at my school about climate change and I'm probably gonna use this video to talk about plastic use
You guys are best. And the format is better than it used to be imo. Keep going 😀👍
This visual lesson was great. Imagining having to wear that certain plastic does makes me rethink my plastic choices.
I love the new direction with your videos! Keep them coming!
I'm so thankful you made this! It's finally a video about the issue that doesn't bring in politics. That means I can safely send it to my mother without fear! And maybe have a real conversation that isnt derailed into taking sides. Thank you!
Awesome video love the new format 😊👍 love your stuff and the podcast.. you rock
I am loving theses kinds of videos, but maybe a drawing one every once in a while for nostalgia ;) keep it up!!
Ur channel is just so ammmazing!!
All the contents out here so productive!.
I definitely like this new format, I love seeing you two!
I rarely give a thumbs up on UA-cam, but you definitely earned it with this challenge! Keep up the great work.
You should take a look at how Denmark handles garbage - we actually impute garbage from other countries. We use it, for example, for heating houses and building materials for roads :) We also have a system where we pay an extra small amount of money for our bottles and cans, then we return them to the store, when they are used, and we will get the money back
I loved the concept of this video. really appreciate your guys' work
Thank you, that means a lot! This video has made a big change in our lives, and hopefully has a positive impact on others too.
I clicked on this video so fast 😂
LOVE YOUR VIDEOS ❤️❤️
Thank you so much for making this episode. I really appreciate the balance of the message.
So I think it would be a great chance to learn where to reduce even more
My friend works for a company that produces over $800k worth of plastic every day. Their motto - "We cover the world" :/
Is it sherwin Williams? Their logo really disturbs me; it's the earth with red paint smothered all over it (suffocating).
@@Rachelbee no it's a company with huge revenue but not popular most people probably never heard of them. i can't recall the name off the top of my head sorry
do you thank him everyday for the positive contributions he's made to YOUR life? if not, you probably should.
Hahaha I love how Greg apologizes to the fallen bell pepper - so Canadian! I really enjoyed this concept and video; it was very entertaining and educational. Thank you so much and keep up the amazing work!
this needs more views!!!!
Yeah
I'm gonna take this challenge
Amazing! Make sure to share any pics with us.
