    You’re the working man’s hero. The gun marketing industry is crazy! They would have us believe there’s no way possible someone could take a cheap savage Axis with cheap scope combo and succeed. We would need a $$1500 rifle with a$900 scope . You’re out there killing nice deer and bears with the combo. You prove it’s more about hunting and shooting than how much we spend on gear!!

    Been debating on if this rifle would be my first entry into the hunting community. Always wanted to learn the proper and responsible way to hunt before anything else. This video answered enough of my questions and now feel confident that I can safely operate and understand this rifle. Thanks.

      Glad to hear the video was helpful! You’re absolutely right what you said though there is a lot more to learn about hunting aside from the shooting part which is a very small part of it all. Good luck on your hunting journey!

      Anything over a Savage rifle almost but a Ruger over Savage, they are making too cheap the stock, the barrels even the bolts. I've been doing the rifle thing for 30+ years reloading the whole work. Three Savage rifles all with problems bought many years apart: 1994, 2016, 2022.

      Good for the price. I have a Savage Axis XP 308 Woodstock. The extra weight controls like a top dollar. I've upgraded the scope from the weaver and running the bolt with a good quality lube makes a big difference. I've had mine for years and haven't had any issues whatsoever. Can't beat it for 300 yard kill.

    Thank you for sharing this review man. I just bought one a couple of weeks ago and I shot it a couple of days ago at my local range. I’m not a big fan of heavy recoil so I put a recoil eraser on the back of this .308 model and I really enjoy shooting it. The recoil eraser absorbs up too 70% of the felt recoil when a shot is fired. It doesn’t kick at all now. Not for a deer and elk rifle. Went through a box of 20 rounds. No bruise no soreness. Nothing.

    Good job on the video! I just bought one two days ago in 308 and it has the accutrigger and a Bushnell 3x9x40 BDC scope. Bought it to replace my K31 Schmitt-Rueben 7.5X55 . Wanted something lighter to carry as I'm not getting any younger. Looks to be a really nice gun for the price point but the real test is if it can compete with the 7.5 or my trusty old H&R 30-30 single shot in the accuracy department as both of those rifles were 100 yard tack drivers.

    My wife and I both picked up Savage 243s when we started hunting in 2017. Awesome rifles for the price. I put the Mcarbo trigger spring kits in both. We have taken deer each year since then. the best video I have scene in a long time like the way you keep the information simple and actually realistic as most would not describe as you did about the kill zone. As you have shown unlike others and explained you don't need a precision rifle to hunt as 200 yard kill even on the flat lands is also do able as I live on the prairies and have 8 sections to hunt on

    I have a savage axis in 308, the stock is not allign with the barrel or vis versa, there’s a little gap on the left and on the right a bigger gap, still shoots perfectly, was wondering if someone here have the same "issue", still a great gun for the price, i never abused it, shoot 2-3 round and i wait till the barrel cool of

    • @OutdoorsAnonymous
      @OutdoorsAnonymous  Рік тому +1

      My buddy had the same issue, he shaved the one side down because it was touching the barrel a bit and messing with the harmonics. As long as your barrel is free floating should be ok if it’s touching shave it down a bit.
      Try to take it out of the stock as well and reinstalling it and retorquing the action screws to 40lbs, see if that might fix the issue first.
      I’ve also seen other ppl reinforce the stock inside to make it harder which helps keep the barrel free floated.

      I think a 6.5 is good enough for most medium game, I have only used mine on coyotes haven’t used mine on deer but I don’t see why it wouldn’t work - I think some people even use em for elk and stuff, not sure I would but I’ve seen it done and done well lol my 6.5 I mainly use for target shooting as you know but I think your 6.5 would be a good all-rounder for around here though with the ranges we shoot for game you won’t have an issue!

      6.5 is a great hunting round. Not an advocate of using it on elk or anything larger. Yes, shot placement is key, but shot placement is NOT ALWAYS in your control. Things happen; equipment failure, weather, animals move at the last second etc... I don't hate on people that use it, but I won't advise people to use it on big game if there are better options available at the time. I own 2-6.5cm, a 30-06, 300wm, 6.8spc, 243, 6.5 grendel, 2-223, 350 legend, 30-30, 308, 270, 12 gauge, and others. Given all those, I'm taking the 300wm to better my odds in case of less than ideal conditions.

    For those who keep saying get a lift kit here's what it is: Savage is transioning to a new firing pin that in my opinion is superior, and I have a bolt lift kit that works for it.
    None of the older style bolt lift kits will work with the new singe piece firing pin but this one will. Made some improvements and the results so far have been very good. Some times bolt lift is improved by as much as 50% though most tend to be in the 20-30% range.
    What makes it better and different? This new kit I made uses a specially modified thrust bearing and a spacer for the BAS screw. One thing I noticed is that most other bolt lift kits compress the firing pin spring more which does the opposite of decreasing bolt lift. The spacing ring fixes this issue. Also the thrust bearing takes friction down to near zero compared to all the other kits that still have friction.
    Installing it is simple and easy. No cutting or grinding its necessary like other kits. You only need a 1/4n Allen wrench to take off the BAS screw.

      I gotta agree, they’re not the best haha I think there’s a model with the accu trigger which is better but mine isn’t. Could def use a trigger upgrade but for now I think it’s still doable!

    I own this rifle. Honestly the bolt cycling is terrible. It's a shame it's not a bad gun, but the bolt honestly ruins it for me. I thought it would get better but never did.

      @@OutdoorsAnonymous about how long did it take? Mine is brand new and just really jerky and uncomfortable. Is it an oil issue?

    • @OutdoorsAnonymous
      @OutdoorsAnonymous  2 роки тому

      Couple outings to the range + a good clean and lube job did the trick for me. It’s never gonna be super smooth though because the way it is the bolt lift cocks the action that’s why it’s heavy on the lift compared to for example my Remington 700 or a tikka.

    Good review but eh if any hunting rifle I have can’t shoot 1 moa idk if I’d be trusting it anything over 100

    • @OutdoorsAnonymous
      @OutdoorsAnonymous  Рік тому

      A deer’s vitals are a 8-10 MOA target at 100 yds, 4-5 MOA at 200. But you gotta shoot with whatever distance you’re personally comfortable with to make an ethical kill.

      @@OutdoorsAnonymous I agree I’m just saying with adrenaline pumping and environmental factors a hunter may not always make the perfect shot but a tight shooting gun can help mitigate any crazy thrown shots

    • @OutdoorsAnonymous
      @OutdoorsAnonymous  Рік тому

      Yeah great points I agree also, and shooting positions in the field might not be ideal either ie. Kneeling or standing unsupported, or with just a sling support. My personal comfort distance is 200yds max. Furthest kill I’ve shot on deer is I think about 145 yds ish, same rifle as in this video.

    I just bought a 555 28 ga and its a PIECE OF TRASH. it was a warranty claim right out of the box: barrel does not fit properly with the receiver and is a safety issue as stated in the suppliers documentation. Customer service was condescending and argumentative, they even laughed. since I bought this to introduce my grandkids to shotgunning, I failed to see the humor. I wouldnt shoot this piece of junk and I sure wouldnt let any one I love or care about use it

    I bought this in .223 with the scope in true timber strata. I'm teaching myself the fundamentals of firing a rifle and when I'm more comfortable I will sell it and buy the 6.5 Creedmoor variant for taking game.
