I love hearing him tell these stories. It's so clear how passionate he was about music. His voice would've been perfect for voice over narrations or a radio show. RIP, Ray.

Imagine how many moms encouraged their kids to stop whatever they were doing because Elvis appeared for the first time on tv?

Elvis was not no king...he was a copy cat king maybe say that, we all know little Richard and chuck berry were the originators of real rock and roll.

He had looks, could move etc....but most of all he had a tremendous voice with tremendous range. You cannot simply call him a copy cat---many would succeed if that was the ingredient of greatness--it is not.

@@bron7459 Can't remember exactly where I got this, but some musicologist put forward strong musical parallels between blues and traditional celtic music. And the theory goes that the African slaves were hanging out with the Irish workers who had brought their instruments... So basically, blues was born of africans learning to play their folk songs on european instruments being taught to them by Irishmen... makes total sense!!

What is that keyboard on top? Is that what you call a "bass box"? Are those still manufactured? I have a bad left arm and can't play bass guitar anymore, so I'm looking for a bassy alternative I can play with one hand.

It's called a Fender Rhodes bass piano, made by the same people who made the Fender Rhodes electric stage pianos. Ray also played one of those with the bass piano on Riders on the Storm.
