I agree that pistons are too loud, but this new sound isn't it, man. Doesn't sound mechanical anymore, old sound had weight to it, it really sounds like something heavy being pushed

The new sound isn't even audible to me at full volume...
Not only this but it was also iconic
The piston now sounds so sloppy. Previously it had a sound of a real machine, but now it just lost all the effect
If you ever have a real machine that sound like the old pistons, turn it off immediiatly and take it to somone to fix!
@@Octojen I'm pretty sure they mean a classical mechanical type of machine, older style machines were pretty noisy, but they have a sort of character to them.
I love the idea of the piston sound change, but i think the new sound feels a little... wet? I hope we get to hear a couple different options before the release is done

Yeah, something just kind of feels wrong about it... Like the Redstone doors don't have that mechanical clanky feel to them anymore.
I feel like they could keep 2/3 of what it was and 1/3 of the new sound, like less loud and smoother but NOT THAT MUCH

Maybe it should only apply when slime blocks are pushed? That should help to make flying machines quiter which are the main thing that's loud.
I'd rather the piston 'kerchunk' was just flattened down a bit than to get a new sound. The piston sound as it stands now is one of the most iconic sounds in minecraft, and while it is noisy, it's completely unambiguous as to what that sound means. Redstone component's already have a ton of simple high-short sounds like dispensers, droppers, various door sounds, as well as a litany of other redstone component related sounds that all fall in the same range. Pistons may be noisy, but this new sound is like adding another fire alarm to the list of ones you need to find and change the batteries in, while the old piston sound is mellow like the dull thrum of a pleasant rainstorm.

Thanks Mojang and Slicedlime! Can I make a suggestion? Loudness isn't just a piston problem, it's a problem with mobs and other blocks as well in many circumstances. Perhaps the game could have a more general solution such as recognizing when there are too many sounds (especially) similar sounds playing and lowering the gain on them, or adding a limiter. Thoughts?
Pretty sure they already have a maximum cap for the amount of sounds that plays at the same time, I guess what they can do is allow us to configure that through sound settings
I think it's a good idea to reduce the sound of the piston but for me it's too much, you should keep the old sound and tweak it just enough to make it less noisy

yes it was loud but that old mechanical sound I preferred a lot more, made it sound like there was real machinery at work
but I guess it is what it is... at least resource packs could be used to bring that old sound back

The new piston sound is a miss in my opinion. Old one was too loud I agree, but at least it felt more heavy-duty and like it actually moves blocks.
Even if this newer sound sticks around I would still want it louder, because honestly I had trouble hearing it without blowing my ears with the rest of the audio in this video.
In-game it can also now only be heard from a very short distance which I'm not a fan of either.

I agree with others here about the piston sound, the new one is too wet and weak, and sounds more like a plastic toy or clicker thing than a piston. Even when it’s pushing just one block or nothing, it doesn’t feel like it fits what I’m seeing. It doesn’t sound like a full block-sized, wooden/stone mechanism that pushes stuff around. It feels even weirder when hearing it while seeing contraptions like piston doors or the ones here in action (the flying machine feels too quiet as well, and the observer clock even makes it seem goofy tbh xD). It needs more strength to it, imo.
The old one had mechanical charm, and personally never bothered me, though I can see how it’d bother others. I feel more general volume options may be a better solution, since piston sounds aren’t the only ones to bother people, and many still like them anyway.

The new piston sound effect sounds... wet. It sounds like its squishy rather than the mechanical clank that the sound had before. I overall dislike this new sound because it lacks the mechanical-ness the old sound had.

Making the piston a little lighter on the ears is a good idea, but the new sounds like many have said sound wet. Like you shoved a squid into the piston to reduce the noise

That piston sound. It sounds like pressing a key on a keyboard with a wetness filter. Like, they could've mixed the piston sound with that new one and lowered the volume...

@@OLIVER427 you can’t compare this. The copper bulb behavior was reported as inconsistent to other redstone stuff and was „fixed“ because of this feedback. This is a sound that some/many (I dunno) me included don’t like.

piston got a better volume, but the weight is much worse, it feels like it's moving paper, not heavy blocks
I’m with you all with the piston sound, I’m not sure about it either. I am however, pleasantly surprised how calm the community has been about this, I’ve seen no excessive toxicity about this change, rather I see proper feedback. Nice.

It was very much called for because everyone working with redstone ended up getting vanilla tweaks resource pack and similars to lower the volume of pistons

That being said I do think this sound is soulless and lacks character, expected way more because of the stellar work they're doing with sound. This one probably is a residual from vaults and trial thingies.

The piston sound change is really not great. Really hoping it gets reverted, and the volume level of the sound just gets decreased instead. It also sounds weirdly like the copper bulb activating? So weird.
I gotta ask, where is the QA team with seeing if changes are actually applied ive seen so many times where you show a feature then a text saying oops still didn't work

Piston doors sound quieter but slimy and kinda disgusting. The piston needs _some_ sound, akin to a "whoosh", to better sell how it extends and retracts. It currently sounds like a lever or a slimy button, which is not satisfying.
The new piston sounds are much quieter, which is awesome, but they feel… wet.

not a fan of the new piston sounds. i think just reducing the old sounds in volume would be better, or make them a separate category in the sound settings. the new sounds don't really sound like anything and i actually had _trouble_ hearing them
Same. They were actually difficult to hear, without making the rest of the video TOO loud. The new sound also can't be heard when you're even a little away.

Couldn't they have just turned the original piston sound down a little instead of replacing it with gentle nearly-inaudible plapping?

The piston sound, why ? Pistons being loud is literally fixed by toning their sound fx down a little ... And it's also kind of part of the charm and satisfaction just hearing them work behind a new contraption you make ...

Because you guys are delusional for thinking they hate mob farms, the only farms they wanna phase out are ones that are overpowered and breaks a certain aspect of the game (like Raid Farms destroying Trading and the risk of death)

That piston block sound sounds weirdly
I think you should get this if you add feathers to the piston recipe!! I love the idea of the new sound but the original sounds more FEARSOME! Like some big mechanic yk.
I think overhauling the swamp and giving more spawning locations for witches (for example through multiple witch huts connected with walk ways in stilts) would have been the better solution and keeping more with lore, as witches really should drop all their ingredients at about the same rate.
But I get that you want to get the raid changes done this update and you can't pack a swamp overhaul into the same update, considering the time constraints and all the stuff that is already in there. So I get why you went for the quick fix.
I just worry that now we'll never get more/bigger witch huts, since you probably won't be able to revert this change.
As a pvp player I really hope the java mace base stats are adjusted before release, the current slow attack speed makes it feel extremely clunky and unfun to fight with. The only reason breach was good is because the base stats of the pre-nerf mace made it a decent side grade to swords, but with the current abysmal attack speed there's no reason to use it over a sword on the ground (it gets outDPSed by unenchanted diamond or sharp 1 iron), and a density mace in the air. I find it odd that this update's flagship weapon is now less useful than a trident despite being far harder to obtain than a trident, and these bad stats sticking around through multiple snapshots is concerning. :(
hmm. not sure i like the new piston sounds. i understand wanting to make redstone quieter, especially pistons, but these new sounds are almost entirely inaudible. pistons don't sound like they're doing anything anymore.
i feel like the sound issue would be better solved by just giving redstone components their own volume slider. i should learn how to use the feedback website maybe.

Honestly the piston fix is simple. Revert it and make it quieter. Allow us to apply wax to it to have it make it play a much quieter sound.
In todays snapshot, they reverted the sound back to the old one and made it more quiet

I’m not a fan of the new piston sounds, it would make more sense to be if they put a button in sound settings to toggle on and off quite pistons, that way people with sound sensitivity issues can have it off while other people have their classic piston sounds they’re used to

That piston sound is just bad. It sounds like you're dropping a marble on a table from like 2 inches above it. Yeah I think pistons can be really loud and annoying, but where is the character in that sound? Its a machine that has a giant arm that extends. The new sound is like a dinosaur making a chicken sound.
chickens are dinosaurs tho, and other (past) dinosaurs likely made bird sounds or something similar (bird sounds is a very varied term i know)
