A small, simple solution for rockabilly raging or subtle tone thickening.
The Electro-Harmonix Slap-Back Echo takes the essence of one of rock guitars most iconic effects and boils it down into an ultra-compact footprint without sacrificing modern flexibilities.
The Electro-Harmonix Slap-Back Echo is a late 70s rarity reissued with a classic tone and few modern updates. A single, short delay has been utilized to add depth and rhythmic effect to countless records, was popularized in the 1950s, and is still unmistakable. The EHX Slap-Back Echo’s simple design delivers the classic sounds from subtle doubling to intense bathtub reflections in a pedalboard-friendly package.
Housed in EHX’s Pico-sized chassis, the all-analog Slap-Back Echo features Gain and Blend knobs as well as a Time switch. The Gain knob controls the input signal before the echo circuit and also adjusts the overall volume at the output with a boost of up to +20dB. The Blend knob mixes the dry signal and the echo signal from 100% dry to 100% echo. The Time switch selects between three different delay times: 45ms, 65ms, and 100ms.

I know we have all said it before, but John is such a great talent as guitarist, musician, rig rundown host, demo guy, on and off video. I would love to do what he does. You have made a great life doing this, and we appreciate you.

I didn’t learn about delay time techniques like slapback or dotted eighth until I was many years into my playing journey. Thanks for helping us learn John and making guitar playing and gear more fun.

Just love how this pedal makes it super simple to dial in great slap-back and cool useable delays. Great review too as always. This one's a keeper for sure!

Slapback is where it’s at. When I’m playing with my events band it’s slapback probably 80% of the time. Total secret weapon.

This pedal is best by itself or in a small pedal board. That gain really colors the sound and can really change your tone, and not always in a good way.

Howdy from North Carolina I play classic country and 50s rockabilly Me and my grandpa bought this pedal took the guts out and wired it up inside my modified monoprice 5w tube amp that now has a 8inch Celestion 100w speaker and a vintage RCA 12AU7 tube we added the pedal control adjustments and the time switch on the back of the amp and the 9v power adapter on the back of my amp is pretty much a louder clean machine modern version of an Echosonic
My style is pretty much like Luther Perkins I use Thomastik 12/50 flatwound strings ever since me and my grandpa wired this up in my amp my favorite thing to play is Train Of Love
    and Home Of The Blues
    and Get Rhythm
and other classic Johnny Cash Sun records era recordings
I really get that tone now but louder than the original vintage amps

On all Led Zeppelin albums, that guitar sound you mentioned is due to Jimmy Page microphone tecnique, where he used lots of room mikes... the only time he used an actual delay, a Binson Echorec, was during the recording of John Bonham drums on When the Levee Breaks (Headley Grange sound was not sufficient, see Rick Beato's video on that topic).
    That said, awesome demo, thanks!

Man, I've been playing guitar for over 10 years - and for the longest time, I thought that the super-short reverb-ish sound on recordings that sounds like you're sitting in the room with the guitar was a reverb, and I could never figure out how to get it. I've only just learned it isn't actually a reverb. It's a slap back delay. Might need to pick this badboy up.

Just got one based on this review. Plugged it in, and it is so noisy that it almost obscures the sound coming from the guitar. Sweetwater being the amazing folks they are will be sending a replacement, so hopefully it will function properly. All I can say is. . .ya get what you pay for. 81 bucks is probably too good to be true.

Yeah, I was having some issues too. Just got mine delivered yesterday, so I thought I’d come and read some comments. Hard to find much info online so far, but I’m assuming now that it really has to be used in an effects loop. Because mine is noisy, and it really kills the tone-much more than it probably should. I know it’s not a transparent boost, but it’s it just sounds like a blanket is thrown over the amp as soon as it comes on.
I don’t have an effects loop, so I’ll have to go back to the nice little Tomsline delay I was using. It is very transparent… sparkles and works great. I was just hoping this thing would be a great slap back pedal to put on my board. Instead of having to try and dial it in.
I also ordered a flashback mini. Just to have something smaller and more simple. There must be something I can do, I’ll work with it a few more days before selling it.😝🎸🤘🏻🇺🇸

Adding enough blend cuts treble too much, sound turns somehow muted with too much low end. If this is your only pedal and it is on all the time it works, but it doesnt work in a pedalboard. Waited months for that pedal and it was unfortunately disappointing. My slapbackecho is for sale.

I don't get why people use the term analog for digital pedals like this one. It would be analog if it was tape driven. Anyways, I've ordered one of those, though I've heard that they've got a number of issues...we'll see.

So how the F... is the first pedal influencing the second? jesus. With some instruments, such as steel guitar, the advantage of slapback is to mute "setup" ...forget it.
