Thank you all for watching my videos, this episode shows a big visual transformation. I prime the walls using a paint sprayer followed up by back rolling. While it is cold and I have a lot to distract me from this project, I'm hoping to wrap it up in the next couple months. Stay tuned for more.
    Thanks again!

This house looks so much bigger with the primer. Looks so clean. Great work. I’ve followed this house since beginning. Never imagined it could look like this.

I did a house 2 years ago. Full gut job including replacing some floor joists and rebuilding part of the block wall. I did ALOT of the work myself, But I hired out drywall. Once drywall was complete, it was like a giant breath of fresh air on the project.

me too. My entire basement drywall has hung in just one day! It would have taken me weeks. Lots of dough to hire it out, but so much faster. Same thing with electrician.
I am excited to primer next week!

In case you read this comment, I want to give you my 2 cents about why I watch your channel (casually).
I am a young, (with a young family) first time home owner of an old house that needs work. I may not have the time or energy to DO the work myself, but watching you deal with and EXPLAIN the issues that you see, educates me about my house and what solutions there may be. That is valuable to me.
Second - I love seeing people restoring broken things. It is not neat, rarely clean, but it is deeply creative and hopeful. Which we all need more of in our lives.
Finally - you make me smile and laugh; petty one-liners and ads for Simply Safe and all! Merry Christmas to you and your family!

Being over 65 with health issues creeping in, projects like this are out of my realm of possibility these days but it's a pleasure watching younger men on UA-cam applying themselves and putting in the work during their productive years. They go by so fast so kudos to you for making the most of yours! Happy Holidays, sir!

The idea of a mold proof primer over the bathroom regular plaster board is a great idea. Flat white quality paint is my favorite color on your whole interior painting project.

Ugh .. I was waiting for the drywall and paint but missed these until now .. I love the quirkiness of older homes, not just four walls like a box .. this house has that quirkiness but with a clean feel .. love it! And the sunroom is fantastic - it is the perfect place to stash coats and shoes, extra pantry items, kids projects etc.

👍👍👍👍👍 I've waited a long time to compare the before and after images of this house and what surprises me is the amount I remember of it before the beginning of the demolition. The demolition that removing all the crap that had been done to the house over the years and the discovery of burned areas revealing there had also been a fire in the house. It is nice to see the framework finally covered and the actual dimensions of the rooms revealed. The potential that you had imagined so long ago and have worked so hard to complete. I was having a hard time seeing but now . . . there it is.
Like you, I like a white pallet to decorate with.

You are so right. I after years convinced my wife to go white. Bought a little Bosch airless sprayer. Finished the lounge an dining room and bathrooms. Plumbing was a challenge as we gave a brick house. Bought a wall chaser and all is well. We did all our own art and inherited furniture and other sentimental goodies. How I am enjoying the process. Next its the kitchen, me wood paint and having a ball.
Keeps me busy as I am now on two years of disability retirement, into my 60's which slow me down some days, but watching you just and others like you just motivates me to just get up and continue. Thank you for all the sharing for the tips and talks. Especially your approach to commonsense. 🤗🇿🇦

Currently painting my house flat white, ripping out and replacing all doors architrave skirting, with plain wood because I love wood and wood doesn't chip... bringing out the grain with Danish oil.
With you on flat matt, Easy to maintain, looking at how much care you've put into this house, I do hope whomever lives there appreciates the attention to quality, from electrics, plumbing, insulation you've given it, and takes care of it... love the lil side porch, if you had a hobby like art painting, it's so light it's perfect.. ditto photography... particularly like the Georgian bar windows... its going to be warm safe and energy efficient for the person lucky enough to call it home. I'd only sell if I needed money to buy another fixer upper... keep capital if you can.
Well done, I've so enjoyed this house renovation... love that you rescue the pre loved... you see what it could be...to me that's worth it all day.
( please excuse the British descriptions of things)
Have a great Christmas 🎄 to you and the family and your Dad always nice to see him helping... and yes simplisafe is in my future but at the moment I'm still renovating x

I haven’t bought a house but I’m in the middle of remodeling a lab/pharmacy in a veterinary clinic for horses. It’s in an old modular barn. It’s been a challenge at every step dealing with unexpected issues related to rust, rot, non traditional building surfaces, uneven concrete, etc. thanks to watching channels like yours, the seemingly impossible has been accomplished step by step. I’ve gone from a complete novice to people wanting to hire me for countless projects when they see the transformation. Thank you and Merry Christmas to you and your family!

I've been following since the start of your $9K house renovation. The thing I appreciate most about your videos is how realistic they are, you run into various issues, troubleshoot and move on. There's always going to be little surprises and the need for more tools, money, time etc.
You asked near the end for input on whether to rent or sell this home and after my recent experience with renting a property, I'd have to encourage you to sell it and not rent. There are really so many moving parts when you get down to it, no one is going to care for the house like you did. There are good renters out there, but no guarantees. Maybe if you hired a management company and had multiple properties it would be manageable and profitable.
But I say sell it and move on to your next project without stressing about who is or isn't doing crazy stuff in your rental.
Can't wait to see this finished project!

My current favorite paint color is Valspar Urban Sunrise in Satin finish. The color hides wear well and the finish makes cleaning easier. I have a lot of kids/people living in my house and need both of those perks. I’ve never been a fan of the tan/beige colors and I see they are making a comeback. No thank you lol 😂. The dramatic difference in a remodel after drywall is up is huge. We live in a farmhouse that was built in 1901. It took us forever to get to the drywall part but when we did I cried. It finally looked like a home. It seemed to go very fast at that point too. You’ve done amazing on this house.

those greicos are nice. i have the same machine. i like to put it in a couple gallons of water first thing and spray the floor where it meets the wall before i paint. it keeps all the dust and any crap stuck to the floor so it wont blow up onto the wall when i spray the paint. i tape the hinges with blue tape first. any overspray i keep a gallon of isopropyl alcohol around. comes right off.
i still would have given the kitchen that entire wall where the bathroom door is and put the bath door just to the right as you enter from the breezeway. left hand swing it in

As someone who started painting at 12 years old with my stepfather and also worked for a major paint manufacturer in sales and specification for 15 years, You definitely don't need an additional primer over that PVA in the bathroom. If you think it needs another coat of primer, just do another coat of PVA. Where you'll get your mold resistant and moisture resistant benefits are in the top coat. Use a top coat intended for bathrooms and it'll last.

All white is perfect for a rental. Anyone can live in that. Any other color and the people living there are constantly reminded that it's not their color. Perfect for selling it too because of the brightness and opening effect. And if you're living in it, it's good too because you can take your time to decide where colors go when you do paint another color, instead of just going for it and realizing it's a bit much and you're stuck with it because you're not going to fix it right away.
Appreciate you talking about how you're not that efficient of a worker either. I totally feel the same way about myself. I don't like to rush things and I like to take my time and make sure I do a good job. Some people don't like that and don't care how good of a job they are doing. I always misjudge the amount of time it takes to do something too. I think it's because when you're working on a project that's new, you don't know how it's gonna go. So when you're planning out the things that you do know, you're only planning for like half of what is actually gonna happen and the other half is the unknown. And when you come across the unknown, it's gonna take some extra time to figure out.

The house looks great, the primer makes a huge difference, I personally like eggshell for walls and a satin finish for kitchen and bathrooms, you can wipe down or clean it if it gets smudged, for the style of home it is white is a perfect color, as you said use artwork, furniture, decorations, area rugs for accents, the home is coming along wonderfully.

Crazy man, dueling ghosts with a broom!🤣 My mother always loved eggshell white with wood trim. I spent too many years in all white apartments. I like color, but I tend to use color on the bottom third of the wall, 18th century style. Having the bottom third painted a strong color means the dirt doesn't show from pets or whatever. The upper part of my walls are white. That keeps things bright and light.
I like the quirkiness of this house. It is a testament to working men who just needed a roof over their family's heads. We are losing so much history as houses like this are being torn down.

I've dislocated my collar bone several times and have a compression fracture in my neck, doing stuff like rolling ceilings and even the walls is very hard for me to do, even if I ignore it hurting at some point it's almost like my arm goes asleep. For me the painting is a quick way to get the paint on, no holding a brush in corners, etc. Then just a quick bankrolling with a semi dry roller. When I've rolled entire houses I thought I was going to die by the end......with that said, I can see how it would be faster and you would not have to mess with the sprayer before and after painting. Quick to start and toss the roller when done.

I agree with a light color for my 1934 home, I didn't like some of the colors they had. I also have lived in apartments most of my adult life or rental houses. They are always beige, tan, or off white. All of which I am sick of. So I decided to go with a light gray for ceilings and walls. Instead of off-white, which is more dirty looking. Then picked one accent wall in some of my rooms. In the living room I used a darker gray behind the tv and around the fireplace. It looks good and touch up is light gray most places. To add color to rooms, I use curtains with the original quarter sawn woodwork (unpainted). That way if we get tired of a color we can change the curtains, but the light grays still works with so many other colors. Our home feels bright and open. With the darker gray wall behind the tv, it is easier to see and the wall not reflecting as much light to compete with th tv. It also demostrates the focal point of the room. I dont know what colors you like, but white works too. Please just dont use off-wight or beige? Beige is like burgandy and brown cars, they make lots of them, but most people wouldnt pick those colors. I think the house is really turnung out well.

The house is fine, the little side room great for winter flowers. And many other things.
Bathroom in kitchen-sometimes a compromise is necessary in older houses.
The only thing I think would make better if you make the entry porch in one porch. Would be greatly enhance the usability and the front esthetic of the house. I know the meter is there, but I would raise it up. Period.
It just would make the house to another level.

Once when we were fixing up a little house to rent a neighbor came over and said "You saved this house." I always remember that. So congrats to you, you SAVED another house.

I’ve been here since the beginning and this house looks so good. I don’t like shiny paint. Go for eggshell. Not super flat and not shiny. I like the sun porch. I could see a little hand built bench to hang backpacks, coats, and shoes there.

Joy. Now time to ditch the Tyvek getting the siding trim done. Let the sunshine in!

Nice job! Sun porch is great for lots of things, yes mud room & coat storage, putting kids bicycles & lawn toys, dog leash, benches for shoes umbrellas, sports equipment, and of course sitting & drinking coffee.

A transformational moment when the place really begins to come to life. Congrats on reaching this point. Agree with your positive assessment of flat white. The ease of spot repairs later seems especially relevant to a rental.

Flat white. So much easier to repaint after your renters move out. Kids are destructive to walls so flat white is the best. House is looking great. Merry Christmas!

Even though it is a rental I'd use satin paint. My experience with how easily flat get looking dirty then you have to be careful when cleaning the wall so the paint doesn't wash off...maybe I had too cheap of paint? I like that the enclosed porch/entry remained. Having a place where coats, jackets shoes can go helps keep the living room 'nicer'. And nothing wrong with the main floor powder room where it is. I think it's awkward having the only bathroom accessible only through a bedroom.

Looks absolutely amazing! What a transformation from what it used to be to what it is now…can’t wait to see the trim and flooring go in! And I agree with your sentiments, why not bring something like this back to life than build a whole new development in a farmer’s field. I’m getting so tired of seeing farm after farm and any other piece of land being turned into some crappy new housing development. Where I live in upstate South Carolina it’s getting ridiculous. You see acerage for sale and next thing you know there’s a builder proposing a new subdivision!

Happy Holidays and New Years to you and your family. Been watching your videos for several years now, and really enjoy seeing how you transform a place, make use of what’s there (as much as possible) and creatively tackle challenges. Very inspiring and enjoyable. Thank you for sharing your hard and good work. And your straight forward and relational communication is also a big plus . Mahalo from Kauai
