I have owned a Tank 300 Ultra Petrol with Pirelli Scorpion A/T tyres fitted from new. (Did a deal with the selling dealer). 3 months and 3,500k in now, Its a great car and for the price outstanding. Is it perfect, no, Lane assist is rubbish, you can live with it around town but on the Highway you just turn it off. Problem solved. Performance from the 2.0l turbo is more than adequate for this type of vehicle. I would not recommend spending $10k for the Hybrid. Fuel economy is average but it does take 91 unleaded (Note GWM do not recommend E10). That's the extent of my complaints. Brakes are fine, Build quality is on par with Japanese and S/Korean, Turning indicators are 2 step and once you get used to work fine. Handling is fine and ride comfort is very good. Test drive one you will be surprised
Thanks for the ownership insight 👍
Thank you for the comment. What size tyres are you running? I'm also looking to get the Pirelli Scorpion AT's.
Will check and let you know but they were fitted to the standard 18 inch alloys. Almost certain they are the identical size to the standard Michelins. The dealer Von Bibra GC swapped the standard Michelins for the Pirelli's at no additional cost once we had agreed on changeover dollars. My trade in was a 2018 Cherokee Trailhawk, it's at least as good in every way as the Trailhawk and better fit and finish. Heaps of them on the road now here on the Gold Coast.
I have not had any issue so far currently at 17500kms
That’s good to hear.
@@drivingenthusiastaustralia yeah man I genuinely have had good experiences with Great Wall, I did 35000kms on the new h6, I do have some access to different sources of info too like actually seeing how these cars have faired in their domestic market. In aus I worked at 2 dealers for a few years one bmw one Toyota and I can say they are not without fault. Yet majority of people wouldn’t label them, hence why I am against the negative “Chinese” undertones against all these “new brands”.
Yep I've also had good experience with GWM. Own a Haval Jolion for almost 3 years now and not a single issue. Sure its not the last word in vehicle dynamics but it does the job well considering the price. @@Maige2900

I have a lux hybrid - the lane assist is not so good ; turn it off every time
However , the lane keep ( a different function works in tandem with adaptive cruise ) works very well - mild corrections only and genuinely helpful
Only done a few k in mine so far - but impressed pretty much to date Particularly like how the hybrid takes over during bumper to bumper slow traffic situations and similarly during slow off roading. The HEV system may not be as efficient as some , but its sure nice to know this 2 ton plus vehicle can shuffle along often in pure electric mode repeatedly when required.
Also impressed with its plush suspension & driving dynamics overall. I own an Outback 2D which is and awesome do it all vehicle. Only got the tank for more serious off roading.
So far so good 👍

That’s great. What engine do you have?
Good to see GWM behaving like adults at the idea of publishing the breakdown.

All lane assist tech is potentially dangerous. Out here in the country, if you use it, it will take you through every pothole it can find.

I am getting the Tank 500 Ultra HEV arriving Q2. Not yet decided whether to get the white or the silver.
😮wow. No issues with my HEV ultra grey. Done 6.6k now. Launch control always works mid to high 6s it’s fast always and smooth. I cannot understand why you had issues with both cars strange. I think next software version will iron out a few things let’s see. 😊

The Tank 300 petrol variant has been on sale in China for over three years and close to 300,000 units have been sold so I’m pretty sure that the petrol version is close to rock solid. However, the hybrid HEV version is a complete story, this version is not really on sale in China. It only sells overseas so this is a relatively new technology that is not proven yet. China has a newer plug in hybrids variant Hi-4 T which seems to be a better option later on but Australia does not have it at the moment. I bought the petrol ultra and is now close to 3000km. No mechanical issues so far besides CarPlay freezing a few times. Solved by using a wireless dongle and much more stable.

As an owner of the FJ Cruiser, I had the opportunity to drive the Tank 300 in Guangzhou, China and also had chance to meet owners who regularly take it off road. I was mighty impressed and since FJ Cruiser is no longer available, my next vehicle would be the Tank.
I drove a demo non hybrid and the car said nothing to me, I suspect the dealer had turned it off. I found the lane keeping intrusive, but I loved the car, however i want to tow and the payload is too low.

Hi, I'm from Mexico, the Tank just arrived last month, and price is very tempting compared to a Bronco or Jeep, but I have seen reviews of several Chinese cars sold in Mexico that have the same problem stalls dead on his tracks, kind a software error, Chinese cars just have one year in Mexico and seems that not even factory techs know about how to troubleshoot to

But I’m sure ACTUAL evidence won’t be good enough for you.
I watched another video earlier of a fella who showed modifying his dashboard displays and included setting up driver profiles… seems to be an option like you were hoping for?
Tank 300 is off-road vehicle not sport car. Go test off-road, no body gonna do race on that vehicle by the way.
Why does it have ‘launch control’? Is that for off roading?
A 7 seater off roader not meant to be used on road ?
I had some software issues initially which afyer the update went away ..the drive is very comfortable and enough power but power delivery is inconsistent is it typical of a hybrids? Its my first hybrid
No, it’s just the way they have set this vehicle up.
Pretty sure this system only charges the battery under braking - not from a the engine.
This means the battery isn’t always available and is probably why your acceleration is inconsistent
No surprise that a 78 kW motor powered from a 1.75 kWh battery is not going to do well during repeated acceleration runs. Unless the vehicle is given time to fully recharge the battery between runs, then the maths is pretty simple: Assume 1.5 kWh of usable capacity then you can draw full power for 78 / 1.5 = 0.0192 hours i.e. 70 seconds. So you can probably not even get full system power for a minute before it starts to cut power to the electric motor at which point the motor and battery just becomes dead weight. Probably the reason why the petrol engine is tuned for 180 kW in the HEV compared to 162 kW for the non-hybrid. In real world driving it probably works well enough unless you are towing foot flat up a long hill.
Camry hybrid has no issue doing repeated acceleration runs. Just saying.
First the electric van test and now this, your having a bad trott Brett. Things can only improve.
Lol yeah. Some interesting cars/videos coming this week: Honda N-One RS, new Mitsubishi Triton and new i30 Sedan N/Elantra N. These should liven up our spirits!
Did you change the settings to sports mode? You normally have 3 mode eco, normal and sports
Yep. Actually tried all mode - I usually do for all cars 👍
@@drivingenthusiastaustralia that’s unusual all 3 modes gave you exactly same times
@@eliaspap8708 It’s actually common to see the quickest time in Eco mode in some cars, in my experience: I’ve tested over 1000 cars over the years. These modes don’t actually change power or torque output. They only change throttle sensitivity. But full throttle is still full throttle. In most vehicles anyway 👍
Edit: I will try to show that in future videos, especially when Eco mode returns a quicker result.

Finally an honest tank 300 reviewer!
Not really. It’s a fantastic car around the city and out in the mountains on and off road. A pleasure to drive in all areas. Is it perfect? No but in the last hour I have just had the dubious pleasure of driving a Ford Explorer. Now if you want a car to be negative about look no further than that piece of junk. Klanky, nasty interior feels like it is about to come apart in your hands. We are about to take delivery of our Tank 500. Test drove one on narrow, insanely steep and rough mountain track before placing the order. Super vehicles. Not sure where this review is really coming from.

I didn’t hate those until I watched this video.
Mate, battery charge level makes a huge difference to 0-100 time. Likewise with all hybrids and EVs. Launch a model S at 100% charge and 30% charge, you see up to 40% difference in 0-100
I've tested over 1000 vehicles spanning 12 years. There is not a 'huge' difference. Some EVs produce slightly slower results with a lower SOC (usually older systems), while more modern ones produce repeatable results regardless of SOC.
More specifically to this case, a Camry hybrid produces completely consistent 0-100 times, regardless of battery level - I've tested it (it was a boring day).
The Tank just doesn't hold water.
Simple conclusion. Wouldn't want one.
