much love, it's clear the band cares about the music and it sounds good. but damn if this isn't the most sterile big band i've ever heard. everyone playing like they're afraid one wrong note means an ass whooping. and that swing feel... i got all tensed up watching this.
"If I play a wrong note my staff sergeant will spank me"
Did I mention they're all at least staff sergeants.
Maybe because they were being filmed and they don't work jobs night after night as a regular band does.

Looks like this was done specifically for recording and not a live concert. I've seen them live and they have a lot more energy and emotion.

Keven Zhao softone bucket mutes made of neoprene.
Fancy stuff, I also like how they didn't bother get a bass one just slap a tenor mute on it'll work fine enough.

Ich bin überrascht das die Musiker an internationalen Vergleichsschießen teilnehmen. Ich weiß das in den "normalen" Truppenteilen das deutsche Schießabzeichen vorkommt. Bei den Musikern hab ich jetzt nicht damit gerechnet.

My grandson plays the flugelhorn as well as the trumpet. He us in his first year at the College if Music at Western Washington University. Doing well and enjoying it. Looking forward to the first concert. His younger brother us now a senior at his high school where he is in both honors wind choir and jazz band. They both played in their school band that played at Carnegie Hall 2 years ago where he had to learn the tuba in just 8 weeks,. THAT was a real thrill for all of us that went with them. So we are in our fifth year of jazz as well as "classical" music. Our collegiate has decided he is not a fan if "classical" and only wants to play jazz and so has changed his major from music education (I.e., music teacher) to music performance. I would really appreciate a word from you how I can convince him one does not exclude the other. I am concerned about his ability to earn a decent living by just playing in a jazz band (no reflection on you guys, we all know you are fully action ready soldiers first and musicians second). Can you give me any words if wisdom? I am sending him links to all your videos. Any chance you might be playing in the Seattle area this school year? I'd bring the whole band!

I loved Henry Mancini’s Moon River, by him, Audrey, and Andy. I think Henry would enjoy this immensely. I do, too. It would fit wonderfully also into a Blake Edwards movie, Well, Done. 👍🇺🇸
The music is great obviously. Amazing and very professional but their lack of emotion and risk with what they’re playing takes away from it all. I’m sure they’re all having a blast but at least show it some it’s what jazz is all about.
