There is definitely a learning curve with this tool; I experienced the same problems initially but eventually got the hang of it. I was surprised at the lace I got out of a 12”x12” square of leather. Donald.
Thank you for making this video. I'm still practicing with this tool :) I've seen a lot of demos that are less than two minutes and I didn't really learn the ins and outs of using this lace maker until I watched your video. It's very entertaining to listen to you speak and seeing that you also take a while is encouraging for beginners like me who struggle with assembling and prepping tools. Of course, I don't find enjoyment in seeing you "struggle". Anyway, thanks.
The Shoe-fie Lay I don’t edit my videos trying to make things look easy. I leave the struggle in to show people what it is really like. Thanks for watching
I used to work with a lady who made leather halter tops and side bags for motorcycles. I would make the laces she needed and to also make braclets and key rings. So I know that those lace makers can be stinkers sometimes. But the end product was always worth it.
I’m glad that I found your video, I had the blade in the wrong way. Can’t begin to say what bad words were coming out of my mouth and hoping not to cut my finger off. Thanks!!!
I’m glad it helped. You have a nice surname from Campbeltown. I’m a maceachran. If we go back a thousand or so years. We will be related. So hello cousin
@@UKSaddlerytrainingcoursesuk oh my goodness and here is me thinking that Glasgow was always my home for centuries. I now live in the north east of Italy and fortunately even if you are married the lady keeps her original surname. Nice to find new relatives!!!

Makes me feel a ton better knowing that I'm not the only one that has issues with the Devil's Thong maker! Thanks for the how- to and a couple of laughs!
Yay, its not just me who had an issue using one of these. I have seen people say to keep your index finger on your right hand as high as you can to keep the leather feeding through the blade. Another tip was to strop the blade frequently or to always use a fresh blade.
Mark Salter this was a new blade. I could have edited it out. I like to show people everything that’s why I never edit. This way you get to see the real fun in working with leather
solsdadio that tool is useful but a pain. I’m in east Ayrshire about an hour from Dumfries. Dumfries is that town that likes to tell you what speed you’re doing on the motorway. They told me I was doing 106 on the motorbike. I thought that was nice of them. Until they sent the bill for their time
Great video and very informative. I do have to give a big shout-out to UA-cam and they're closed caption because you all from Scotland are impossible to understand sometimes. I've been all over the world and spoken to so many people in their broken English and different dialects but you Scottish folks need closed caption and a dictionary to understand to you folks.🤗💕
gwynne clark I like this tool it can be a pain sometimes as you can see in the video. I could have edited this. However I think it’s better for people to see all the problems you can get
Using the bottom cutters is a mess. It’s very difficult. I only have had luck using the one that is in the top. Does anyone know how could I make square leather laces?
Admit it, you did this video hoping someone had a magic trick to share a easier way to get that thing started. But alas preserverance and a whiskey on stand by is all one can do.

Thanks again for showing us how to use the lace cutter. And thanks for the entertaining comments God bless
The first time I had to change the blade in mine, I was stumped. I wish I had found this video at the time. I needed a Whiskey as well.
You are such a star !!! Thanks a million for this !
Thanks for showing how challenging it is to get that F'er to work at first.😁
I have one what a PIA to.get the lace started. Happy New Year
Hah! Second go and the wee bastard worked! Thanks for the informative, funny down to earth explanation.
All the best from the Scottish Borders.

The Scottish people don’t have an accent. However I have noticed all other countries have one
I know how you feel I also gave up and went out and bought a reel of thonging

Also a Happy New Year. I`m still laughing. You told it, the fiddle is most of the time a pain in the "neck".
Thanks for the tutorial

Cut your laces the same measurement as however thick your leather is. Equal width & height = square. It can also be bought.
Admit it, you did this video hoping someone had a magic trick to share a easier way to get that thing started. But alas preserverance and a whiskey on stand by is all one can do.
I saw another video the author said if you would wipe floor waxnon soft leather. Let it dry this stiffens the leather making it easier to cut.
BlackPowder Bill I’ve never done that. I’m also not sure if I would try it.
Your English is very very difficult!
T.A.O not in Scotland it’s not. I’ll bet we can’t understand your version. That’s accent for you
