We love a long-winded wizard ghost monologue. Thanks, Merlumina... Super Paper Mario has a lot of elements, especially in these early chapters, that feel like fun little callbacks/remixes of things from the first two Paper Mario games. Yold Desert and Ruins feel a lot like PM's Dry Dry Desert and Ruins, and Fracktail is obviously a riff on TTYD's Hooktail, design-wise. Flipside is also reminiscent of Rogueport's underground once you get into digging up all the secrets within it. Locked in and excited for the rest of the series!
Absolutely, there are a bunch of those little references throughout the game! They're fun to find. Honestly, some of them show up so often in the franchise, they're practically tropes at this point. Glad you're having a good time with the series, I've been looking forward to this one for a very long time!
There's a lot of references in Fracktail's sequence, but my favorite has always been his eye becoming the Wii loading circle complete with the chime sound when he's searching his database. I'm very nostalgic for the Wii's UI and sound design in a uniquely different way than I'm nostalgic for things like the SNES and N64 era, so seeing that immortalized in a Wii game that I can always come back to is very satisfying.
I'm loving This Series so far! Fracktail was always an Awesome Boss Battle! Hey did you know His Antenna was originally meant to be camouflaged as a Palm Tree with Coconuts? Pretty cool huh?

Yup, Fracktail is such a great first boss in so many ways. That Paper Mario writing-style is out in full force in this game!
I was a little surprised to see no Mario after you flipped into 3D. Weird indeed, maybe a glitch?
