If you say no to Merlow, he asks you again, and if you keep saying no long enough, eventually he just says "fine, be that way" and the Dark Prognosticus takes over the world or something. He keeps varying up how he asks you so sometimes people just keep saying no to see if he loops and then are slapped with a game over for their insolence.
