If you like the M1 garand and have an ear for good sound desing you should definetly play Bad Company 2. The bark that gun has in that game is awesome sauce.
DUDE! No mention of multiplayer!? Arguably the best part of this amazing game! In fact this game is my absolute favorite in the series, and I am still saddened to no end that it never came to PC. Last summer of 2015 I went and got a great deal on a used Xbox 360 on eBay. It was the 2nd generation of the phat machines, one of the 2008 models with true HDMI, and I snagged that with a wireless controller and HDD for a whopping $45 USD! Better yet it was in mint condition with what looked like low hours of use and the seal was never broken. I grabbed a mint copy of the game for $5 on eBay too! I mean, MINT! The multiplayer is what keeps me coming back for more. The weapons all have lots of realistic recoil, so if you like your games to be more challenging, then this game really is for you. The multiplayer section has classes you choose from, and since this game is very much like United Offensive, and even some of the DLC maps were direct ports from those games, vehicles play a large role in multiplayer. You have the standard BMW R75 and Harley Davidson motorcycles with sidecar, a Dodge WC, Horch 1a troop vehicles with mounted MG's on the back and finally but certainly not least are the M4 Sherman and Panzer IV tanks.
I've bought old cod games for my og xbox (Finest Hour, Big Red One and 3), and replayed them all. Awesome games and CoD 3 might just became my favourite CoD campaign. It's doesn't feel on rails like many modern CoD games, and it's not as fast as (also amazing) pc's CoD2 - but you actually feel like you went through fight and not scripted event. And i love how campaign falls together in place nicely, and I haven't even noticed that whole that time i spent in normandy. Awesome game and awesome period of CoD history
I recently played this (xbox 360) and I agree. Not sure why this game is considered bad for a cod, I really enjoyed it. It was developed by Treyarchs own engine I think, so everything feels a bit different compared to the IW games. I actually really enjoyed how it felt, guns felt really powerful and fun to use, and the sound overall was fantastic. Missions were pretty varied and tough (played on veteran) but not impossible by any means. It is not a perfect game but a really fun WW2 expereince. Very few WW2 games these have a campaign, and I love WW2 games which is why I bought cod 3 btw. I know in this era the market was completely oversaturated with WW2 shooters and people were tired of them. Now its kinda the opposite, mostly modern or futuristic games which I don't like as much.
I wouldn't give the game away nor sell it but coming from someone who enjoys challenging games and plays a lot of Ninja Gaiden (if you haven't played any NG games, just try NG2 on master ninja, you'll regret it!) I found Call of duty 3 to be absolutely awful. I didn't like the way it transformed after playing call of duty 2 and beating it on veteran, call of duty 3 on veteran is a fucking asshole. The checkpoints were lousy, the campaign didn't sit well with me for some reason and idk I just hated it. (Not because of the critics) To each their own though.
The most intriguing thing about this game for me is that it's the only COD game that has fully drivable vehicle segments. In future COD games, driving vehicles would either be on rails or heavily funnel where you can go. Granted, the driving segments look linear too but there seems to be a huge amount of freedom on where you can drive and how much control you have. On that note, the multiplayer also has drivable vehicles. I'm very confused why this series dropped that idea after COD3.
Fun fact - since this game was ported from PS2 you can still pass the quick time events without the six axis controls, if you know which buttons to press
Hey, Gggmanlives I have to say you are a big inspiration to me and without you I probably wouldn't of started youtube, thanks alot man I love your review of this too
Going from Call of Duty 2 Big Red One to this on the PS3 was amazing. The shader effects and improved textures were really impressive at the time. I remember seeing advertisements in magazines for this game and I honestly couldn't believe the screenshots were real. It was a different time
This was my favorite COD. I loved playing online and actually needing a medic and being able to find and drive vehicles around the map. Campaign is also great and I still go back and play once a year.
Call of Duty 1 is still a masterpiece, it's really good. United Offensive expansion is also good. Then I would suggest you play Modern Warfare, Modern Warfare 2 (it gets a lot of hate for MP but SP was great), World at War and Black Ops before you attempt to play any other.
Andersen William I dont know ..i have played Road to hill 30 and i really enjoyed it so i am looking forward to getting the 3rd one .... thats why i need a review.
I really loved the weapons in the game, espiacally the K98. Man...did I have a lot of fun with this weapon, due to its excellent ironsides, Long-range accuracy and high Level of Damage.
yeah the K98 was excellent in this game. I really liked the Lee Enfield too because it was so direct. Each shot was like stapling a bullet right into the enemy. The sub-machine guns on the other hand were quite difficult to use due to their strong recoil but it doesn’t mean they weren’t awesome lol.
This sounds like a review by someone that wasn’t old enough to play the game when it came. For it’s time, a lot of the gripes mentioned were either pretty good for the time or just limited by the time they came out
This was a pretty fun entry, but personally I liked Treyarch's next one, "World At War" better. I like the soundtrack and gorier gameplay. Also, you can't beat fighting alongside Jack Bauer in the pacific campaign.
This game had really good multiplayer. More Battlefield inspired and unique to the series. It had large open maps, a larger player count than any other CoD (32 per match I think as opposed to 16), and drivable vehicles. It was a pretty epic experience than was kind of a rarity for console multiplayer at the time.
Whole heartedly agree with this, one of the best games on the Xbox 360 and a great addition to the WW2 storylines of Call of Duty. Including the Canadians, Polish and French was a real high point.
Gggmanlives Hey Gman when you do the Half-Life 2 review can you please also review the episodes that followed after it in the same video :) like you did with your F.E.A.R. one review :D
You should do a review of Call of Duty: Finest Hour. It was their first attempt of a WWII Call of Duty game on the consoles. It's not without significant flaws, but I liked the attempt they made at fighting as or alongside specific and more memorable characters.
I did actually have this, COD 2 AND COD 4 on the Wii back in the day, and absolutely loved both of them.... Yeah, I know, I know... but to this day, I still found sniping with motion controls to be that much better and intuitive than some analog stick at the time.
For a game made in 8 months, CoD 3 was a great game. It did lack some of the finer details of CoD 2 such as realistic reloading mechanics and overall was a more glitchy game due to the lack of development time.
Good review. My biggest problem with it was how ridiculous the respawning enemies could be. If I remember correctly, one section had me trying to get through a small cabin, but every time I would get near the doorway it would trigger the game to send out like 20 guys. I know that's how CoD games are, but this game seemed to take it too far in some parts. MP was also pretty good on this game. I liked it better than what CoD games have become. It just needed a few tweaks.
I played this game from start to finish countless of times and when I would talk to people about it they always thought I would be talking about COD MW3 since that was the only other COD game with a 3 in the title but when I would correct them no one heard of it and didn’t know it existed. It was a great game and I never understood why I was the only one in my class that knew about it
Playing shooters with a controller is bad, but playing it with a PS3 controller is even worse. I loved CoD 1 and 2, and it sucked that I didn't get to play this. I would happily pay for a remake on PC.
It's weird that they haven't ported it to PC yet. I mean how expensive would it be? And they'd undoubtedly make their money back. I can't stand playing shooters with controllers either..
JA123 yes everyone hating but it was my first cod not WAW black ops one or MW2 but still a classic But the real reason I love it, tells you about the guns and stuff Also my cod 3 came with cod classic hell yeah and I got cod 2 so I'm going through em all on veteran
Remember playing this game a bunch when it came out, remember it being awesome. Tried playing it a few weeks ago on my ps2 and couldnt get past the first mission because of the weird aiming. Did you have that? Might have to get it for my ps3. But awesome review, bro!
Please Gggmanlives, can you do a review of Call of Duty - World at War? I really like your chanel and your opinions and I would like to hear and see, what thoughts do you have of it.
This is my personal favorite Call of duty, the campaing is... just perfect for me, and the menu soundtrack when you are the final stage of Chambois is just epic, it Gives that feeling of being a hero. And the quick times events in ps2 are great for me, i wish Someone make a port to pc of this masterpiece
You should do a review for Call of Duty 2: Big Red One for the sixth console generation. Shockingly good game, the first one made by Treyarch :) I personally played the ps2 version and enjoyed the hell out it :D
Interesting that you like it that much. It had a very short development cycle (8 months IIRC) and according do most opinions I've heard, it shows. I personally skipped it when I had a PS3 because I wasn't that much of a fan and was kinda annoyed by the health regen system in COD2. If I rebuy the console, I might get it out of curiosity...
I wanted to play this again so bad but my ps2 is dead and the cd is broken. I wish it was ported to pc :( this was the best CoD ive ever played it was emotional and heartfelt this sit in my heart next to CoD big red one
The six axis quick time events are really enjoyable on the 360. It was done by joy stick since the 360 had no six axis. But it was very creative and very well implemented on the 360. Rather than just pressing square or x it makes you more involved in the game. More involved actions needs to be implemented in modern shooters.
I had no idea that you had to shake the controller in this game on ps3, that would have made me very mad haha. I played on 360 and all I remember having to do is mash the triggers and I dont even remember the other button prompts lol
I still remember the E3 showcase trying to make the QTE's look like the next best thing in gameing. Ironically lucky I was to have played this on the PS2 where the QTEs were used with the shoulder buttons instead.
Ever considered making a review of Call of Duty: World at War? I know most people hate that game but It was the first CoD I ever played and I would like to hear your opinions about it...
You sound so innocent and well behaved here mate! Keeping the Aussie accent in check too. I'm glad you found your real voice eventually, coz you're hilarious and entertaining.
I actually do find that the friendly AI is annoying. There are parts where i target an enemy, or toss a grenade, and my allies go right in front of my shot, or go right where my grenade lands, and i get a friendly fire screen. Not the worst to complain about, but it is a common thing.
The XBOX 360 version was noticeably better looking and ran smoother than the PS3 version. Kind of annoying because it was right around the same time I moved out the flat I was sharing with my brother and he kept the 360 while I took the PS3. Overall I preferred the PS3 for the exclusives, but in hindsight I wish I'd bought a 360 too for a few of the exclusives and the occasions where they got a superior version of a multi-platform title. In a lot of cases the PC has received the best version (I own/owned a PC too) but occasionally there have been botched ports and sometimes I'd just prefer to play on console.
I was actually kind of disappointed by Call of Duty 3, because I was, and still am, in love with Call of Duty 2, and it honestly feels like 3 had worse graphics and tried too hard to be like an action movie. For example, where you're driving a dinky little schwimmwagen through a German base and there are explosions going off absolutely everywhere and you're fine. CoD 2 was my first experience in the series, and in all honesty, is still my favorite, preferred over CoD 3 and 5 (World at War) unless I'm playing through the co op campaign or zombies.
Call of duty 2 will always be the best COD in my opinion, amazing campaign with a very good Russian section, the british were cool as always and you've gotta love a bit of normandy with the americans. call of duty 3's graphics were worse and honestly every gun seemed to have the recoil of a magnum or desert eagle
Did you forget about the Nintendo Wii version? The controls literally stopped responding at times when too much was going on, and the quick time events were even worse with actions requiring the numchuck often failing to register.
Yes I know but you mentioned literally every platform except the Wii version, but eh, minor error made years ago and it was probably the worst version out of all of them.

It was a great game and I never understood why I was the only one in my class that knew about it
Do you plan on doing any other CoD reviews? I'd like to see your opinion on Modern Warfare.
I reviewed Modern Warfare. I've also done COD1, COD2 Ghosts and AW.
Oh cool, thanks for the heads up.
Thank you for the awesome content as always
Could you do World at War? It's the best WWII game in the series and it's very impressive
The frame rate in the PS3 version is not stable at all. And the Sixaxis motion controls can be disabled.
It's even worse on the PS2.
The PS2 version is nigh unplayable at times. It can drop to around 15-20 frames or even lower than that.
RustyLasagna The only benefit is the obvious lack of SIXAXIS controls.
MicroChirp
Even then, the use of the analog sticks to control the mortar is a pain in the ass.
Oh yeah, forgot the mortar part of the game. Haven't touched CoD 3 for years.
Playing shooters with a controller is bad, but playing it with a PS3 controller is even worse. I loved CoD 1 and 2, and it sucked that I didn't get to play this. I would happily pay for a remake on PC.
Playing this with a mouse and keyboard would be far more enjoyable than a controller...
you only need good hands
It's weird that they haven't ported it to PC yet. I mean how expensive would it be? And they'd undoubtedly make their money back. I can't stand playing shooters with controllers either..
Game james killzone 2 was my first shooter on console
And i complete it on medium difficulty
In beginning it was hard but then i adapt
Maybe someone could somehow get the files for a PC emulator?
I think it's great that you are reviewing older games, but I think reviewing newer games would really extend your channel as you are a great host.
Thanks, I try to make it a mix of old and new.
I don't care what people say I love this game so much
scaryazz it's ok to be wrong
AydarBMSTU
Lmao wrong? How so?
So did a lot of people. Don't let bitter snobs drag you down, man.
My favourite game ever made. I recently bought an old xbox just to play this again. I used to play it on my PS2 but the disc is scratched.
JA123 yes everyone hating but it was my first cod not WAW black ops one or MW2 but still a classic
But the real reason I love it, tells you about the guns and stuff
Also my cod 3 came with cod classic hell yeah and I got cod 2 so I'm going through em all on veteran
This was my first cod game because it was rated T, was a fun experience at the time
Remember playing this game a bunch when it came out, remember it being awesome. Tried playing it a few weeks ago on my ps2 and couldnt get past the first mission because of the weird aiming. Did you have that? Might have to get it for my ps3. But awesome review, bro!
Love your Australian accent.
This game’s reload animations and weapon models honestly are better than most modern games.
Please Gggmanlives, can you do a review of Call of Duty - World at War? I really like your chanel and your opinions and I would like to hear and see, what thoughts do you have of it.
I will in the future mate.
Nice review! This COD is my introduction to this series. :)
Such a shame how slept on the first 3 call of duty games are.
I always loved this one.
I don't want another CoD game, i want THIS on the PC!
I do too but I also don’t want it remastered because it will make it known to all of the Black Ops 4 players of today which will ruin our secret game!
I loved this when I was kid
You should do a review for Call of Duty 2: Big Red One for the sixth console generation. Shockingly good game, the first one made by Treyarch :) I personally played the ps2 version and enjoyed the hell out it :D
Man this was such a good game. I probably played the campaign 10x over. I would get a PS3 just to play it again.
Completed Medal of Honour Airbourne - got a real thirst for mid 2000's WW2 shooters hah. Gonna play this next!
juliuswhiteman it won't blow you away but it is somehow my favourite game of all time, similar to half life 2
Call of Duty World at War Review ?
6:05 - Oh I see what you did there :P
Polished hahaha
LOL
It should've been a COD2 expansion pack at fair price.
As a kid i enjoyed playing this game and i replayed it like 3 times and now again im playing on veteran and its harder than WAW.
awesome review
I wanted to play this again so bad but my ps2 is dead and the cd is broken. I wish it was ported to pc :( this was the best CoD ive ever played it was emotional and heartfelt this sit in my heart next to CoD big red one
This was the last CoD game I played. Either I lost interest or I knew the series outstayed it's welcome.
i would recomend playing the original modern warfare. the campain on that one is alot of fun and its stupidly cheap atm.
Yeah I would at least give cod 4 a try. It you are in to ww2 shooters then also try world at war
DashieSparkle How do you not like cod4 and mw2 and mw3. Wtf.
Charli3 Do2t Su4f shut the fuck up
Don't worry you're not missing out... all the games after 3 started to turn into shit.
The multiplayer was pretty good at the time as well. Like a more arcade like version of CoD : United Offensive multiplayer.
played this on the WII great game enjoyed heaps
The six axis quick time events are really enjoyable on the 360. It was done by joy stick since the 360 had no six axis. But it was very creative and very well implemented on the 360. Rather than just pressing square or x it makes you more involved in the game. More involved actions needs to be implemented in modern shooters.
My first cod game plus there where 3 other console exclusives for consoles. Big red 1, final fronts, road to victory
Sonny G, you're forgetting that the tiny Wii had this game too (and I actually have it in my collection).
To be fair, the SixAxis quicktime events were only an issue in the PS3 version and I suppose you could count the Wii version.
Personally this game has the best WW2 Gun models in the entire series.
The M1 Garand in this game is the best one I have ever played with.
I actually do find that the friendly AI is annoying. There are parts where i target an enemy, or toss a grenade, and my allies go right in front of my shot, or go right where my grenade lands, and i get a friendly fire screen. Not the worst to complain about, but it is a common thing.
FYI the "Black Baron" apparently was Michael Wittmann though obviously he wasnt in a Tiger II, he was in a Tiger I
The XBOX 360 version was noticeably better looking and ran smoother than the PS3 version.
New Gman who dis?
I was actually kind of disappointed by Call of Duty 3, because I was, and still am, in love with Call of Duty 2, and it honestly feels like 3 had worse graphics and tried too hard to be like an action movie. For example, where you're driving a dinky little schwimmwagen through a German base and there are explosions going off absolutely everywhere and you're fine. CoD 2 was my first experience in the series, and in all honesty, is still my favorite, preferred over CoD 3 and 5 (World at War) unless I'm playing through the co op campaign or zombies.
dylan shore Not if we're comparing the PC port.
Hawk 777 yeah cod 2 shits on any game made by treyarch
Call of duty 2 will always be the best COD in my opinion, amazing campaign with a very good Russian section, the british were cool as always and you've gotta love a bit of normandy with the americans. call of duty 3's graphics were worse and honestly every gun seemed to have the recoil of a magnum or desert eagle
I remember playing this and thinking "Wow, no way games could ever look better than this!"..I didn't have many games as a kid and only a ps2.
I felt that the gun animations was more lifelike in this game than the others
This was the first call of duty I played when I was very little
"Oh Boy, I wish this game had more 6 Axis Quick Time Events"
The black baron tank mission was seriously hard on the highest difficulty for me. Good old campaign
Did you forget about the Nintendo Wii version? The controls literally stopped responding at times when too much was going on, and the quick time events were even worse with actions requiring the numchuck often failing to register.
I am reviewing the PS3 version, not the Wii version, hence the title, which reads "Playstation 3 Game Review".
Yes I know but you mentioned literally every platform except the Wii version, but eh, minor error made years ago and it was probably the worst version out of all of them.
