Just friggin Amazing!!! I was in the TCU Band and recruited from Prospect Heights, Illinois.........................I had no idea how wonderful your band is.......that is marvelous!!!!!!!!! Now, retired from American Airlines and enjoying your video with a beer!! God Bless each and everyone of you!!!!!
I’m not a Aggie fan but this band is positively amazing. I know these young people have incredible dedication to precision and it’s takes hours of practice. I’ve watched dozens of college bands and no questions ask this is easily in the top 5 in the nation.
What a great opportunity to be able to shoot this while visiting the band! This is an amazing organization and is respected and loved nationwide! WHOOP! Good job Scout! (My Aggie did the Aggie Eagle program and went on to serve four years in the "Nationally Famous Fightin' Texas Aggie Band"! Being a Bandsman means being part of the Noble Men Of Kyle ...and oh, so much more!)
This was so cool to watch. Four generations of my family are Aggies, and I lived 41 years of my life in Bryan/College Station. I’ve always loved the Aggie band. The halftime show has always been my favorite part of the Aggie football games. I just saw a video by the Ohio State Band where a band member had a GoPro fixed to his hat and filmed one of their halftimes shows from the band members prospective. I’d give anything to see the Aggie Band do this, at least once. So we could see what it’s like to be inside those amazing formations the band always does in the halftime shows. Who would someone speak to to see if that would be possible?
crayne1985 - Military marching is in fact walking. However, it is synchronized walking in time with music or a cadence. Watch it again and concentrate not on the legs, but the feet. Notice how when the foot goes behind the marcher, they don't move up? Put most people who have never marched in a military formation and they will bounce. When the new fish show up and start to march they hear "fish Jones you are bouncing, dig in your heels". The dress covers are for prospective because that is how you keep in alignment.
They did the Marine, then the Navy, then the Coast Guard (?), Then God Bless America. Technically, the Navy is the oldest service and should be played first.?
Dude, I just put it on with loud headphone level on my laptop and I was scared. I felt better afterwards. Don’t try to put loud headphone volume like that. After playing that a bunch of times with that volume, your eardrums could explode at this rate. After all, it’s dangerous. Anyways, I like it too.
As a non-musician and a lifetime admirer of the TAFB how do you march with such precision while carrying a tuba or a large drum? It looks impossible that someone wouldn't get bumped. do they ever practice without the instruments?
I'm an Aggie, though I wasn't a member of the FTAB. I did know a few members while at A&M and a few since. I also marched the same style in HS myself. What I can tell you is that they teach the fish to march, obviously, without instruments and may go through the various techniques several times without them, but once they put a drill together and have everyone out there that's going to be out there, its with all their gear. A FTAB member can correct this if wrong, but its sink or swim. You either get it/do it, or there are others that will. And yes, there have been some train wrecks! By the way, they don't march with Tubas specifically. They're called Sousaphones after the famous composer, John Philip Sousa. They also only have 2 bass drums. I can't remember if sophomores tryout for the bass drums or it is juniors. Either one, and the other one tries out for the limited number of cymbal positions. The rest of the percussion plays either field toms or snares.
Who was your brother? My name is Larry Galvin, FTAB class of '75. We're having a mini reunion in New Braunfels this Saturday. I was born and grew up in Bryan so where else could I possibly go?
No.. being a band director I have even had non-music major friends who marched with the FTAB. When they tried to roll/glide step, some of the upperclassmen told them just to walk and not worry about it. They're more about lines than marching technique.
If you had ever served your country in the military you would know that children roll step. The military does not do this. There are no music majors in the FTAB. This is a band comprised of people enrolled in ROTC, who are members of the Corps of Cadets. It is a military unit and marches in a military style. Note that every step is a full military 30" one, known to you (maybe, if you are old enough) as a six-to-five stride length. There is no variance in this except for the occasional special formation on the field, and special teaching methods must be used since there is no allowance for other stride lengths in military marching, unlike in DCI and copycat bands. You need to learn more about stuff before you make silly statements like what you did above. Their marching technique is very specific, with much more attention to individual details than what you use. Old DCI was just like this. So was old school marching band. Learn your history.
It's too bad Texas A&M is not a HBCU cause this band would have been to several Honda BOTBs. They are one of the best bands outside of the SWAC or MEAC.
That indoor facility does not belong to the band but to the athletic department. It was built some time ago (before we were in the SEC) so the team did not lose time due to bad weather. This is one of the items that Jimbo Fisher was wanting at FSU, now he has one.
When I was in the FTAB old timers said that about air conditioning for the Band dorms. Pretty sure if you go back in the Battalion archives, you'll find the same thing said about paved streets, electric lights and indoor pluming.
So they’re inside on Saturday morning rehearsals so they can get a similar sound reverb to the stadium with the music. Other than that they’re outside no matter the weather condition. Don’t say something dumb when you’re ignorant to their schedule.
There is a huge difference between the way a military band marches compared with any other type of college/high school type band. Watch some Scottish bagpipe bands or Marine Corps, Army, Air Force bands and you will see the difference. And this band is classed as a military band. They have it perfect.
Just friggin Amazing!!! I was in the TCU Band and recruited from Prospect Heights, Illinois.........................I had no idea how wonderful your band is.......that is marvelous!!!!!!!!! Just doesn't get any better than this. Has to be the greatest college military marching band in the world!
I’m not a Aggie fan but this band is positively amazing. I know these young people have incredible dedication to precision and it’s takes hours of practice. I’ve watched dozens of college bands and no questions ask this is easily in the top 5 in the nation.
What a magnificent sounds, indoors is great. ... wonderful military tribute...
The sound inside the practice field is incredible. My brother was in the Band Class of '74 so I always enjoyed watching them practice. Good job!

But how do they learn it?
Always great to see the Aggie band march, even in practice, but it does lose something being at ground level.

Maybe, someday, President Trump can come to a game. Would love to hear Hail to the Chief. ...
ich denke, wir wissen das wir uns in Europa auf das Marine Korps verlassen können.

It is a military walk not glide like corps do

Holton 345 There’s only about 80ish Bands that stuff March military.

I love their drills and i know they are a traditional band but can they drill to any other songs?
what game did they do this at
...you really think they need to practice?
They are indeed bouncing. They need yo work on that.....
You have to be kidding me! An AC rehearsal hall? LOL Wimps

There's a probably a good reason for that, could be freezing outside, couldn't have had access to any other fields.
When I was in the FTAB old timers said that about air conditioning for the Band dorms. Pretty sure if you go back in the Battalion archives, you'll find the same thing said about paved streets, electric lights and indoor pluming.

They are bouncing....they need to work on that....if they tried a little harder, they would glide and it would look really nice...
Allakazee1 that's why it's a practice 😂
They are bouncing. I am surprised those in charge of a military band allow them to do that.......They should appear to float as they march....
