- North Tyrol is the northern part of the Tyrol region and, along with East Tyrol, the larger part of the Austrian province of Tyrol. The Tyrolean Brass Band Association, to which a total of 303 bands in 19 brass band districts belong, also has its headquarters in North Tyrol, directly in the provincial capital of Innsbruck.
Tyrolean brass music has a long and great tradition in Austria. There exists a marching band in almost every village, which enriches village life with its colourful traditional costume and its hearty brass music. Whether at church events such as processions, first communion or confirmation, or at secular events such as concerts, district music festivals or traditional costume parades. A ceremony without a music band would be unthinkable. Young and old usually meet once a week for a full group practice, where the musicians prepare for the upcoming events. In addition to musical development, the main focus here remains on comradeship. For many people, this is a successful break from the often hectic and stressful daily routine.
Besides concertante brass music, "music in movement" is also an essential part of Tyrolean brass music. At the annual district music festivals up and down the country, the music bands perform in parades or marching music evaluations. Like the following 15 bands from North Tyrol:

I stayed in Soell (Soll) when working over the border in Gwrmany for a weekend. One night there was a band festival in the town. The ladies carrying the barrels of schnapps "forced" me to have one or four - glad it was a small walk back to the Hotel where I started again with some tourists from Goettingen Germany .......... Love Austria and Germany.

nice retrospective of former austrian parades in the tyrol - great info on tyrolean parades/events also - hopefully we'll get back to normal soon so the parades can resume - we miss them!

They sure are carrying a lot of things! The little barrel looks like what a St . Bernard has around it's neck. There also seems to be some little bells they are carrying. What is the significance of all these things?
The kegs are containing the same stuff, as those of the saint bernards do: Schnaps!
And there are no bells in between the fingers of the young (sutler)ladies, but shot glasses for the schnapps.
The fruit -brandy is offered to the folks.
Not to sell, but a donation for the band is welcome, of course.

Warum halten die Majore den Stab verkehrt rum?
Weil in Österreich sowie Südtirol die "Kugel" alles mit Musik zutun hat dh. Marsch abreissen , Einschlagen usw. und die Spitze mit Quaste alles mit Marschieren zu tun hat dh. Avviso zum halten bzw. abmarschieren , alles was mit Fussmarsch zu tun hat , Reihen abfallen usw .....

Das kommt darauf an, welches Kommando er der Kapelle geben will
bei uns heißen die Kapellmeister , und den Stab hält man bei der Blasmusik schon immer so
Wenn die Kugel vom Stab oben ist, ist es ein Musik Kommando, also der Musiktakt für die Musikanten, wenn die Spitze vom Stab nach oben zeigt, ist es ein Kommando zum Marschieren - ganz einfach eigentlich .
Und es gibt noch ein Kommando, wenn der Stab quer über den Kopf gehalten wird, dann geht die Reihe der Musikkapelle entweder einen Schritt auseinander, oder wieder zusammen
