    They did the Marine, then the Navy, then the Coast Guard (?), Then God Bless America. Technically, the Navy is the oldest service and should be played first.?

    I’m not a Aggie fan but this band is positively amazing. I know these young people have incredible dedication to precision and it’s takes hours of practice. I’ve watched dozens of college bands and no questions ask this is easily in the top 5 in the nation.

    Music is such a powerful tool, one of the many artforms we can enjoy regardless of status in life or any metrics we use to measure ourselves. And one of the many artforms that we turn to when the pressures of the world get us down. When I first listened to this song last year I was kinda “meh” about it, but something told me to go back and I’m so glad I did. I play this song almost every day and it’s like falling in love with it every time. It touches me deeply and connects with a very stressful event I’m dealing with. The musical instruments are perfection and that drummer is a beast!!!

    This was so cool to watch. Four generations of my family are Aggies, and I lived 41 years of my life in Bryan/College Station. I’ve always loved the Aggie band. The halftime show has always been my favorite part of the Aggie football games. I just saw a video by the Ohio State Band where a band member had a GoPro fixed to his hat and filmed one of their halftimes shows from the band members prospective. I’d give anything to see the Aggie Band do this, at least once. So we could see what it’s like to be inside those amazing formations the band always does in the halftime shows. Who would someone speak to to see if that would be possible?

    As a non-musician and a lifetime admirer of the TAFB how do you march with such precision while carrying a tuba or a large drum? It looks impossible that someone wouldn't get bumped. do they ever practice without the instruments?

    • @scott1564
      @scott1564 Рік тому

      I'm an Aggie, though I wasn't a member of the FTAB. I did know a few members while at A&M and a few since. I also marched the same style in HS myself. What I can tell you is that they teach the fish to march, obviously, without instruments and may go through the various techniques several times without them, but once they put a drill together and have everyone out there that's going to be out there, its with all their gear. A FTAB member can correct this if wrong, but its sink or swim. You either get it/do it, or there are others that will. And yes, there have been some train wrecks! By the way, they don't march with Tubas specifically. They're called Sousaphones after the famous composer, John Philip Sousa. They also only have 2 bass drums. I can't remember if sophomores tryout for the bass drums or it is juniors. Either one, and the other one tries out for the limited number of cymbal positions. The rest of the percussion plays either field toms or snares.

    It's too bad Texas A&M is not a HBCU cause this band would have been to several Honda BOTBs. They are one of the best bands outside of the SWAC or MEAC.

    Dude, I just put it on with loud headphone level on my laptop and I was scared. I felt better afterwards. Don’t try to put loud headphone volume like that. After playing that a bunch of times with that volume, your eardrums could explode at this rate. After all, it’s dangerous. Anyways, I like it too.

      That indoor facility does not belong to the band but to the athletic department. It was built some time ago (before we were in the SEC) so the team did not lose time due to bad weather. This is one of the items that Jimbo Fisher was wanting at FSU, now he has one.

      There's a probably a good reason for that, could be freezing outside, couldn't have had access to any other fields.

      When I was in the FTAB old timers said that about air conditioning for the Band dorms. Pretty sure if you go back in the Battalion archives, you'll find the same thing said about paved streets, electric lights and indoor pluming.

      So they’re inside on Saturday morning rehearsals so they can get a similar sound reverb to the stadium with the music. Other than that they’re outside no matter the weather condition. Don’t say something dumb when you’re ignorant to their schedule.

    They are bouncing. I am surprised those in charge of a military band allow them to do that.......They should appear to float as they march....

    • @paulmcsweeney3241
      @paulmcsweeney3241 6 років тому

      There is a huge difference between the way a military band marches compared with any other type of college/high school type band. Watch some Scottish bagpipe bands or Marine Corps, Army, Air Force bands and you will see the difference. And this band is classed as a military band. They have it perfect.

    crayne1985 - Military marching is in fact walking. However, it is synchronized walking in time with music or a cadence. Watch it again and concentrate not on the legs, but the feet. Notice how when the foot goes behind the marcher, they don't move up? Put most people who have never marched in a military formation and they will bounce. When the new fish show up and start to march they hear "fish Jones you are bouncing, dig in your heels". The dress covers are for prospective because that is how you keep in alignment.
