    These are my favourite kinds of your videos, Teoh, very helpful and informative. I can immediately include the information in my own palette considerations, and see new combos to fall in love with! Thanks for the time and precision you give to it!

    Great video, thank you Teoh! I currently have quin magenta in my palette but after seeing this I'm going to buy a tube of perm alizarin crimson and give it a try. :)

    Very comprehensive and helpful.
    FYI not all paints called alizarin crimson are fugitive. Da Vinci makes an alizarin crimson with the following properties:
    Very good fade-resistance (Lightfastness II)
    Made with Pigment Violet 19 (PV19) dispersed in the finest quality natural gum
    High concentration of premium pigment is finely milled for maximum vibrancy
    Transparent and staining with some granulation
    I have used the American Journey version from Cheap Joe's for many years. No problems whatsoever.

    regarding phthalo green looking blue, I've noticed that in some videos, the camera has a hard time registering that color.

    Great tutorial! Very interesting to see the beautiful mottled mixes with the magenta and blues. I use permanent rose (pv19) as my cool red. It falls between the magenta and aliz crim, and I find it to be great for mixing both purples and oranges. I use Daniel Smith’s Transparent Pyrrol Orange PO71 for my warm red. They work well together to cover most bases.

      I like Transparent Pyrrol Orange too. I'll be making a video of all my reds soon.

    I have a tube of Quinacridone Magenta which I like. I put some on my palette and used it up in no time. I do not have Permanent Alizarin Crimson; but, do have other reds besides the magenta. The warm red that I have is called Pyrrol Orange. On paper, it looks more red than orange; but, if I want orange, I can use it with New Gamboge and make a decent orange. If I mix New Gamboge with Quinacridone Magenta, it doesn't really make the kind of orange I like.

    I learned via a Daniel Smith video that they mix the three pigments dry which means that when you mix them with other colors they act as single pigments do. Not sure if you knew that but I thought that was so cool to share.

      @KateTheSleepyTeacher 6 років тому

      instagram: jomaruyart I watched an in-depth video of them discussing the process. It’s three pigments but they act as one or so they claim

    I really love the color of alizarin crimson.. But i did a lot of research on which colors to get for a minimal palette, so went with a magenta instead 😄..but keep getting 2nd thoughts😁.. I don't want to buy more paint tho unless it's really useful , just a beginner here😁

    Very helpful video. I have both of these DS colors in my palette and have concluded the same as you. Magenta for violets, AC for oranges. What red do you use for your warm red? I'm using Transparent Pyroll Orange from DS.

    In Permanent Alizarin Crimson from winsor and newton PR206 is being replaced by Quinacridone Magenta pigment PR179. I think the question relates to is the change liked or not? (Ie do we buy up all the remaining PR206 before it is discontinued?!)

    I love when you do these color exercises. They are very helpful, and I remember them...I don’t remember them as well when I read about color mixing. And it’s so cute when you say “this is how it looks like” ( it should be “this is WHAT it looks like” or just “this is how it looks” ....but, I think they should change it to the way you say it! 😉)
