  • In case you missed the discussions on a couple of Facebook modelling groups a few months back on how to save a bunch on money on extra thin cement, here's a quick video explaining everything.
    Comparing the chemicals used to make an extra thin cement like Tamiya Extra Thin with other modelling products led to a bit of a surprise!
    Here are the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) I refer to in the video:
    Tamiya Extra Thin: www.wittmax.com...
    Tamiya Airbrush Cleaner: asset.conrad.c...

    I suggest to not throw out empty glue bottles and simply refill with the cleaner; I like the size as well as integrated brush applicator.

      Exactly what I do. The brush in mine is starting to get a little frazzled though. I may have to buy a new bottle of TET soon just for the brush. Or I could just use a cheap fine paintbrush maybe?

      No, Bruce is correct. It's very dangerous for you. If your job requires you to use this, you have to be certified to handle it. It is extremely extremely toxic. They use it to clean fiberglass molds and other molds that use poly resins to harden. It will kill you, no questions asked. The fumes can and will cause permanent brain damage and absorption through the skin can and will shut down your liver. This isnt good stuff, so if you use it.....dont be a dumbass.

    here is my recipe for thin cement, which works exactly like Tamiya....
    50% lacquer thinner + 50% Acetone
    this will have much less odor than cellulose thinner/ lacquer thinner on its own, and less odor than Tamiya thin cement...
    the acetone facilitates fast clean evaporation, with some solvent power, the lacquer thinner is the stronger solvent that melts the plastic.
    enjoy ;O)

    • @brucethemodelnoob
      @brucethemodelnoob  Рік тому

      Interesting. Not sure what the lacquer thinner does, other than dilute the acetone. I can’t recall lacquer thinner dissolving plastic. Does it speed drying time?

    • @AAWOLFE-zc6ly
      @AAWOLFE-zc6ly Рік тому +1

      @@brucethemodelnoob the lacquer thinner I use which is from Mexico and dirt cheap does dissolve the plastic... the acetone slows the melting and speeds up drying since acetone evaporates at room temp fast.

So the smart way to do it is exactly what you said not to do! Put the glue on the piece to be glued and set it in place! Holding parts together and then hopping the glue won't show under the paint is a risk most won't take! The airbrush cleaner is a crazy find! Good job NOOB!! LOL
