But Big Jim....there is a good reason the Hawks have nobody on a contract past 2023...that home and away 2 points might well be the last 2 points the Hawkers see for a while 😂 erm ok I just checked, I do apolgise....you do have 1 player on the entire list who is contracted to 2024 Blake Hardwick 🤣....for the rest...well might be time to call ther agents.
@@patrickbateman6885 Usually when a team kicks more goals than the opposition as the Hawks did, they usually win the game. If the dees kicked straight bud, the Hawks lose by 5 goals. Story of that game is simple as that.

What you didn't mention was the lower picks (apart from Fritch who got a shout out) - Harrison Petty, Alex Neal-Bullen, Charlie Spargo, Tom Sparrow - the dee's nailed the latter stages of the draft too in last 5 years or so

@@tiborsol7959 Port the dumbos took 3 rejects plus trengove and tumpas. Trengove was the only player of the 3 with potential but injuries got him and never returned to his first year form. Watts was everything Melbourne wasn't in 2021. He play with the enthusiasm and physicality of a zombie on tranquilisers.
2021 premiers
I'd say in 2018 they were a team of stars, but not a star team. The midfield competed with itself a lot and as a whole the players didn't play for each other. Being humbled by the Eagles exacerbated this and in 2019 Melbourne just wasn't a team. The Couch did a really good piece on them earlier in the year, about the team keep each other accountable, communicating and fighting to help teammates get the ball, not just themselves.
You mentioned a change in culture and I think this has been instrumental in the change in team ethic and as a consequence the turnaround in form.

I'm honestly not surprised to see the Dees where they are. Alot of clubs go through a period where they literally have to rebuild from the ground up, and I mean from the ground, including staff and everything, and it usually comes at the end of a previous very successful run, which it did in this instance with Melbourne making the 2000 Grand Final. Richmond did the same thing, and it took them 37 years to be successful again after they blitzed the late 60's to early 80's. The longer the blitz of success, the longer and tougher the rebuild (in my opinion). Carlton is another perfect example, and I unfortunately see the next team to be going through this phase to be Collingwood, of who, has basically been in the mix or thereabouts for the last 20 years, playing in something like 6 Grand Finals, and like all good things, they have to come to an end. I honestly hope this isn't the case for Collingwood, but its looking dire.

My Premiership Potentals are:
Top 2. Melbourne And Western Bulldogs Both teams are not the teams I would like to play against. Both Teams can and will punish you if you don't bring your A game. I cant seperate them
3. Brisbane are also scary but not quite at the level of the Dogs and Dees
4. Richmond Never write off the Tigers unless either Mathamtically Impossibe for them to make finals or They have lost a knock-out final
5. Geelong While unlikely I think there are a small chance of winning a Premiership
Of the Current Top 8 teams I believe That Port Adelaide, Sydney and West Coast are making up the numbers and I don't think the Top 8 is set because I believe Essendon, GWS, and Fremantle could Take one of the Top 8 spots they Probably won't win a final let alone a premiership
i think melbourne are a bit higher than bulldogs, because the only loss was by 1 point and adelaide brought every bit of passion into that game. bulldogs have only dropped 2 games but proves that they can have bad days against good sides

There is no question Williams bought the system to the club. Although Goodie before that had a style that generated massive chances inside 50. Destroying the opposition with entries, but without being able to find a target. So I think you have the defensive style of Williams, with the attacking style of Goodwin. Put them together and you are solid in defence and dangerous in attack. With the skills to pull it all off. I think its a case of together were they great. If they recruit in key areas this year, they have a premiership window next year. I think thought, if they get lucky, and add an unsociable element to their game come finals time, I think they can challenge the Cats in a grand final. The Cats I think have clearly the best list.
Williams has helped us with our precision with the ball, and skill execution. As well as our mentality & general development of players. In terms of defensive system, that is something the defensive coaches and goody have been trying to build, with a significant emphasis starting during the hub last year. Jake lever & May getting consistent game time together and rivers + bowey adding run and class to our backline all helped that system to become what it has.
Watching this after they loses to Collingwood like I go for Collingwood like I would I never thought
The truth is Melbourne have started the same way the tigers did in 2017, WCE in 2018 in terms of "form" up until the split round. Will likely lose 3 or 4 before the end of home'n'away season (normal for top sides in the 2nd half) and the flag odds will constantly drift. The most important time for them to find their mojo will be just before the finish of the home'n'away season, which is where they can create momentum to crack it for a flag. Interesting last month against Dogs, WCE away and Cats away in their last 4 games...
Both Melbourne and the dogs remind me alot of the 2011 hawks

You state that the Dee’s fortunes changed when Simon Goodwin took over as coach. I disagree. It was Paul Roos who laid the groundwork for changing the clubs culture of being perennial easy beats and losers. It was Roos that began the process of stiffening up the backline and stop the haemorrhaging of prolific and demoralising scores being kicked against them. Goodwin inherited those building blocks and has since continued the process that has now led to some success..ultimate success will only be measured with a premiership win.

Bulldogs play some really beautiful footy BUT high pressure and good defence can stop them. Melbourne are pressure based so able to stop Dogs and therefore anyone. Finals series shows they can be big scorers as well. We can win shootouts and win defensive struggles also. Can win in different ways. Not time to be too arrogant there are other teams on the rise and the whole competition will be planning on ways to dismantle Dees game plan. Had a good run with injuries, luck?? Maybe not entirely high performance manager Darren Burgess has moved to the Crows. He is a very big loss.

Don’t you mean the booers? Essendon lost that game due to Melbourne’s defence.If the umpiring had gone all our way, it would have been a much much bigger margin. The behaviour of Essendon fans at that game was appalling. Booed every time Melbourne kicked for goal, every time Melbourne picked up the ball, every mark and for any free kicks. Hence, they are now known as the BOOERS.
