1:14 The AFL has the 'floating fixture' for rounds 16-23 as well as round 24,. Opening round to round 15 the times and days of each game are set from the start of the season but they release round 16-23 times and days partially into the season. The idea being that they can schedule primetime games for the teams that are actually good rather than just being based of pre season guesses. They do round 24 separately on its own as well.
In the first 16 rounds the AFL realised that people enjoyed Thursday night footy so they scheduled it for every round in that time. But when it came to the next set of rounds 16-23 the AFL changed their mind and decided that no one liked Thursday night games and that everyone loves overlapping games and multiple games starting at the exact same time - so they scheduled that for the remaining round.
So that's why we had 16 weeks of Thursday night footy in a row into 0 Thursday games for the rest of the season. I don't actually know the reason WHY they scheduled no more Thursday games but I've heard some people say its to do with broadcasting rights.

On the Thursday games. I believe there are rules in the players bargaining agreement about the number of 5 and 6 day breaks they get per season. So the AFL basically schedules as many thursdays as it can around this.
No idea why theyre all at the start of the year though

North lost to Collingwood because they had four extra players in yellow. Some of those calls in the last quarter were absolutely atrocious, especially the non-50 but the blatant throws were pretty egregious too. Pretty sure the whole AFL world were cheering North on at that point, but Collingwood always get looked after.
