I'm currently sitting in Spokane Washington waiting to board my flight home. Not gonna lie, I got some insane footage this week. Look forward to three epic Washington videos next week. Much love, peace out guys.
Thanks Tucker. Great video. God bless and protect you flying. ( I flew last week to Nashville from Charlotte on an American Airlines A 319, Does that count????????) ( Coffee ONLY no beers!)
A&P here. Torque check vs Retorque. A torque check simply mean checking the torque without loosening the fastener first. If it moves before the wrench clicks, you recheck again after whatever the hour interval was for the inspection. For retorques, you loosen the fastener first, then torque it down. If you perform a retorque when a torque check is what is actually called out, then you would be required to perform a new torque check after hour interval was met. Probably wouldn't make much of a difference anyway but technically, there is a difference between the two procedures. I love the videos and it makes my day when I see a new one posted!
I have to admit T, that you're mostly to blame for my addiction. Can't get enough. Though new to PPG, motors are old hat. So a suggestion when torquing, especially a head, is to creep up on it. Mine requires 120 in/lbs, so I go snug, 60, 80, 100 then 120. Sorry, it's the Tool & Die maker in me. Just a thought. Keep 'em coming!!!
Thanks for this video! I fly a Scout and am currently trying to find the brass nozzle on the fuel inlet on the carb. My pull start got sucked into my prop 15 mins into a flight a few weeks back. That somehow ripped out my fuel line. Had my first engine out and it was pretty sketch. Was 1,400 ft over a forest and found a golf course about half a mile away to land at. Love your channel and what you add to the sport man!
OMG!!! That could have been a serious accident, if the gaz caught in fire. Good you're still here to tell us this story. But that's part of the risk. No risk no fun! :) I want one of these machines it would be a dream comes true. But I would add a thin metal plate on the fuel tank, and I would like to have a flexible metalic fuel line. I think the worst accident that may happen, is the fuel tank catching in fire.
Awesome video as always! These maintenance tuto will be real gems among paramotor new and intermediate pilots. One day, one day I'll get one of these :)
Hey Tucker, I just love the vids. Little more info on checking torque, I haven't read all the comments so if it's a repeat, sorry. When you have loose bolts that require being torqued don't torque them to the stated value in one shot. If the value is 12ft/pds, go around all the bolts to maybe 8 or 9 pounds first. Then finish at your assigned value wich was 11.8 as you stated. Rounding it up to 12 won't hurt a thing. Then what John Janis said is correct. Wee would have to do this on almost 400 1/4 -28 ss 12 point aircraft bolts with lockouts on the combust or housing on aircraft engines. Takes forever....
Tucker I'm looking to get trained up by Johnson Qu and get my first Paramotor this summer. He said he's flown with you. When I do you should take a trip up here to Mass and fly from Cape Cod to Martha's Vineyard with us!
Super stoked with what you're doing with and for the paragliding world. Keep up the great work brother, and can't wait to do some flying with you. Cheers! p.s. I'll help you with some speed flying if you help me with some paramotoring ;)
That plug should have been replaced or cleaned at least. It was definitely too dark. Light brown is the color you want. Love your flight vids. Be safe!
Wade Page I just posted similar before seeing your comment. If he can't change the mixture i'd have maybe swapped it for 1 heat range hotter plug to avoid fouling. That thing was black.
Tucker Gott weren't you running a richer gas mixture for the first few hours? I think I recall you mentioning that when you did the break-in vid in your driveway. If so, that could explain a slightly-darker-than-normal plug this early on.
Definitely too rich, that said, running too rich is safer for the motor/piston than too lean (can burn a hole in the piston). You spend a lot of time on idle, especially before landing, so the plug colour is showing the mixture it was last running on, idle jet, and not Main Jet. When checking mixtures on 2 stroke m/bikes we used to perform a "Plug Chop" to determine Main Jet mixtures. Run the bike flat-out, under load, on a long stretch of road. Hit the "Kill Switch" and coast to a stop, then check the colour. The main mixture setting is far more relevant as this is when the motor is under load and most likely for damage to occur (adjusted by needle position and or main jet size. unlikely to be an issue in your case as you motor is specifically tuned for this use, we were tuning for extreme use). Take it up and run flat-out for a while before killing the motor and gliding down, then check the colour. This will be a better indication. Peter.
Thanks for the maintenance video. I'm just nearing 10 hours (which is my break in time) on my Menari. Next fuel fill will be at my normal mixture, not that its been running anything but fantastic even on the rich mix. Keep up the vids!
Sweet video man. Great idea for video maintenance as someone who hopefully will be getting a ppg later this summer it gives me a good glimpse on what to do to be safe. Stay safe I look forward to your next video
The part at 5:40 terrifies me a little lmao, I still lowkey have 2stroke "ptsd" after my nitro car would rev to about 1/3 throttle on idle after going full throttle. shit was terrifying, especially since it didn't even want to stop unless I yank the fuel lines out 😂😂
Hey Tucker! New viewer here. Saw your spark plug and wanted to bring to your attention a higher level of soot on the plug. May be the gas, may be just a new motor, but I'd put another spark plug in and take pictures. Send them off to Scout for verification. A new spark plug is cheap insurance. Good luck and let us know what Scout says if you send it in!
☮️ in, hey guy I appreciate your videos, I am now 3 months into this, my newest love and hobby. I can't begin to explain how helpful your video demonstrations are to me. I actually use your UA-cam videos as my Manual. Really thank you so very much, perhaps one day we can fly together. Kasey.
Enjoyed the video. At least I learned something about small engine diagnostics. Now I understand why my lawn mower kept dying. LOL. By the way, is it even feasible to add a muffler to a paramotor, kind of like what the police use on some of their motorcycles? Thanks, and keep up the great works! :)
The pop after killing the engine can be an indicator of carbon buildup. High compression engines with high octane fuel can be prone to this. For break in you can a higher oil to fuel mixture. Like that's the cause for the dark plug. if its correct it should burn off.
Gonna be watchin' ya buddy. I bought a Plus to replace my Airmax 220, and mounted it on my Rhino Cage with Leon Whacker's Original Trike from Skycruiser. Man, I love this new motor. But, I've got to get used to the Vittorazi Throttle. I hit the kill switch by accident and dislocated my shoulder trying to start it while I was in the air. The Airmax had an e-start, so that was the first time I'd tried it. I have a lot to learn. Anyways, I'll be watchin'. Looks like you'll stay just ahead of me in the maintenance schedule. BTW, if you wanna try my Charlie's Soap products, just say the word. I'll shoot you some freebies.
Hey Tucker, great videos! Keep up the good work. I purchased a scout earlier this fall and have been loving it!!! Quick question for you though... I've searched everywhere for a comprehensive mx manual with guidance on how to complete 100 interval maintenance, replacing gaskets, rings, etc... do you know where I can get my hands on something like that?
When fueling up, I think I remember in another video you said that you use gas station premium pump gas. Where you live do they put ethanol in the fuel? If so, does it cause any extra maintenance problems for you? I know out here in California we have a large amount of ethanol added to our pump gas, and it just kills my 2-stroke lawn equipment.
Hey there! Great channel. I have one question, what gear/paramotor and sail do you use? I am looking to buy a new one, and yours seems to work great. Thanks!
Thanks for the video! I recently did a paramotor course a few months ago, I'm currently deciding whether to make the purchase and get a paramotor (or just stick to paragliding). One thing that is holding me back is how hard it is to do the maintenance, you make it look very easy here but is this something you can learn on your own? furthermore, what is the running cost of maintenance? how much can i expect to need to spend every 10 hours or so on new parts etc? Any help from any more experienced pilot would be great. I would love to get into the sport but not sure if I want to spend $1000s every 10 hours of flying time....thanks!
Hello good evening, can you pass me the maintenance manual of the Moster 285 Plus, so I have the values of the touches well, thank you very much in advance!
It looks like the hex head bolt and allen head screw were secured with glyptol or something to keep them from coming loose and backing out. Did you put some sealer back on after you got them torqued down?
Dude, just curious. But what keeps you flying PPG? From what I've seen, you have skydiving licenses, GA licenses (I'm guessing at least IFR), and PPG experience. What keeps you coming back to a Scout as opposed to a Cessna or Mooney? I bet part of that is ease of access (no rentals) but is there anything else?
Pretty much the same with motorcycles, go through the basics before and after each ride (wheels (found nails in the tire in the past), oil (level still good?), chain... better safe than sorry :-D
You should have cleaned the plug and checked the clearance with a feeler guage. but otherwise a great vid Oh and cleared any carbon build up at the exhaust port
Don't worry about the back fire. It back fired because when you shit it of you were at a higher rpm "you said" then shut it off. That leaves extra fuel in the cylinder nothing wrong
i just wanted to say ! thanks and you are a jurk! (LOL ) due to your vid flying over the water and pointing out he sharks my wife has me watching all your vid's and shopping for a paramotor! due to this is your falt! lol! what do you think of the three wheeler's and or 4 wheeler's ? we are 55 and 56 yoa and do alot of traveling in or rv! we are planing on a small truck to tow behind due to we have a suv and it wont do all we want it to do. we just kind of think the small pickup with the bed to place this in and a small boat on top is the way to go! no one seem's to have alot to say about the sit down type set up! can you please give us your thought's? thank's for any input .
Would you say it is any bit realistic to fly these to work and back home to skip traffic assuming i get training and weather/landing sites are safe?? Lets say work is 30-50 miles away??
Hey tucker quick problem.. When I was snapping my fingers the parts weren't being disassembled. Was wondering if you could let me know what my issue is. Thanks
I am a Marine tech by trade own and operate my own marine repair shop. I used to also be an Auto Tech. That spark plug you pulled out has excessive fuel deposits on it your engine is getting too much raw fuel . The black deposits you have on the plug is unburned fuel . Your carb is jetted to rich. Needs a smaller jet. The raw unburned fuel will start accumulating carbon on top of your piston and into your combustion chamber if the deposits get thick enough on the piston it could cause detonation from pre ignition and blow a hole in your piston. The proper A/F ratio on your plug will be a light grey color. The wrong jetting will also cause excessive fuel consumption on your engine and performance loss from excessive fuel going into your combustion chamber. The raw unburned fuel will also start gumming up your engine internally with carbon deposits from excessive fuel Since your engine is under warranty contact your rep and please get this resolved. You probably don't read any of these post when the You tubers get famous they never read replies nor reply to your post. Please get your fuel system serviced and repaired. If they tell you black soot on your plug is normal I would find another manufacturer to get my engines from. That is not normal . When you get the system resolved give the engine a fresh tune up don't use that carbon up spark plug I hope you read this post it could save your life.
I know that this comment is 3 months after the video so you might not see it, but what do you do with gas that is left over in the tank after a flight? Do you just let it stay?
So on the plane our mech guy changes the wheels every fifty landings swaps left and right because of uneven wear out. Do you guys swap your left and right shoes every fifty landings ?? :P
Check you local auto parts stores. Most of them will have several different types of torque wrenches. Pepboys, AutoZone, Advance Auto Parts...maybe even Harbor Freight Tools, Home Depot, and Lowes.
Suggestion on torquing the head bolts. Go around a few times, by torquing bolt #2-4 it can cause #1 to become looser. Ideally you continue to go around the bolts until none of them turn, they all just click.
Google the manufacturer. They should have a manual downloads section on their website. I just came from the Scout website and they have PDF manuals online.
I'm currently sitting in Spokane Washington waiting to board my flight home. Not gonna lie, I got some insane footage this week. Look forward to three epic Washington videos next week. Much love, peace out guys.

Have a good flight ya big beauty, Come north of the border next time your in spokane ;p
If I would of known you were in Spoken I might of come to see you.

Right on man, that would be super rad! I'm trying to get out west this summer. We should definitely make something happen.
The manual doesn't call for a new plug just yet. I deemed it acceptable to keep using. :)
Tucker Gott weren't you running a richer gas mixture for the first few hours? I think I recall you mentioning that when you did the break-in vid in your driveway. If so, that could explain a slightly-darker-than-normal plug this early on.
FlyingPooch Exactly. The first 4 gallons are mixed 30:1.
Definitely too rich, that said, running too rich is safer for the motor/piston than too lean (can burn a hole in the piston). Exactly, it's 30:1 on break in and 40:1 after. Thats why I wasn't too concerned about the darkish plug.
Love the videos. You have me hooked.
First one here, neat. - Keep up the great videos Tucker!
How about commenting sometime on some videos that show problems in take off or landings that went wrong by others and why.

Fantastic video ... thanks for doing it.
now after winning the I-Race and Iceland adventures. what is the total hours on the motor now? what kind of maintenance are you looking at now.?
I think 92 hours now. I gotta replace the clutch I think and a new exhaust gasket.
Young tucker, You looks so much younger in this!
What ratio do you guys run in your two bangers? I always run 20:1 even with synthetic.
I've been running 40:1 and 30:1 for break in.
Dual vlog with Do It With Dan and JTGS? That'd be awesome
I can't wait to get my own paramotor
Tucker, how did you get your training? Did you find a school or an individual willing to train you.
I trained with Aviator Ppg.
Ok, would you go the same route knowing what you know today or another route?
Same route. Their training and facility has continued to improve since I learned.
Thank you sir.
I like your SCOUT shirt. Did that come with the motor? I am pretty sure, scout needs to hook a brother up for the Scout out...I mean shout out.
It did! I haven't seen it for sale anywhere.
Bloody great video my friend. Avid in Saudi Arabia
Hey, what kind of torque wrench do you use?
This is a Snap-On passed down from my grandfather.
You just know the 4-stroke video will be on it's way soon.
"I'm gonna pistol whip the next one that says shenanigans!"
"I don't want a large Farva. I want a goddamn liter cola!" One of the best movies...ever! lol
Excellent video is that a Moster Plus? Cheers Happy landings, Blaisey
When watching the maintenance videos starts giving you the same dopamine release as the flight videos…😅
What prop is that your flying? I'm having a hard time deciding on which brand carbon prop to buy.
This is the vittorazi specific e-prop. It's my favorite out of the others I've flown, helix and Scout's prop.
Cool, thanks for the quick response. Be safe and keep the videos coming.
Does the manual suggest any locktite for some of those bolts or are you worried about it throwing off the torque specs?
Shaggy 2017 Tucker vs Mustache 2021 Tucker is mind blowing
Dude, just curious. But what keeps you flying PPG? From what I've seen, you have skydiving licenses, GA licenses (I'm guessing at least IFR), and PPG experience. What keeps you coming back to a Scout as opposed to a Cessna or Mooney? I bet part of that is ease of access (no rentals) but is there anything else?
It's way more fun. :)
Hey can you do a video on what everything does and everything you need to fly one
Pretty much the same with motorcycles, go through the basics before and after each ride (wheels (found nails in the tire in the past), oil (level still good?), chain... better safe than sorry :-D
You should have cleaned the plug and checked the clearance with a feeler guage. but otherwise a great vid Oh and cleared any carbon build up at the exhaust port
great video. Also nice to see you are using a torquewrench i.s.o the elbow-version :) (however why didn't you torque the sparkplug?)
I generally do it by feel. Most people think it's weird that I even torque my prop.
Copy that, I torque every nut/bolt (maybe a bit weird :) :) ) It should not come apart on me during flight....
This is great, thanks Tucker!
Don't worry about the back fire. It back fired because when you shit it of you were at a higher rpm "you said" then shut it off. That leaves extra fuel in the cylinder nothing wrong
Lol, poor Blackhawk sitting against the wall like a naughty kid in timeout. Did you ever get it working again or have you just given up on it?
I just got my motor and was wondering what that "wrench doohickey" was for lol.
unique and very beautiful
Why is that, that the motor head (is that correct?) has a carbon/plastic cover over it? Wouldn't cooling be more effective without it?
i just wanted to say ! thanks and you are a jurk!
Ryan Davidson I don't see why not. Fuck the law ~ we the people
Well you can't fly over open areas of more than a few people or over congested areas of cities or towns, but if those don't apply then why not?
Do you use gas or true fuel?
Have you ever thought about building or inventing a silent muffler system for small engines?
Hey tucker quick problem.. When I was snapping my fingers the parts weren't being disassembled. Was wondering if you could let me know what my issue is. Thanks
I want to try that.
You should do a video with LA Beast. He’s also from New Jersey 😃

What brands are you pouring oil into gasoline?
So on the plane our mech guy changes the wheels every fifty landings swaps left and right because of uneven wear out.
Do you guys swap your left and right shoes every fifty landings ?? :P
Nope, we just land backwards the next 50 hours... hahaha. (Now im going to go check to see if my PPG shoes show any signs of uneven wear...)
Coffee brown? Na, man, do-do brown!
specific torque wrench? they all look 10ft/lb and higher on amazon
nm found one... Klutch 3/8in.-Drive Torque Wrench - 5-80 Ft.-Lbs. Torque
Check you local auto parts stores. Most of them will have several different types of torque wrenches. Pepboys, AutoZone, Advance Auto Parts...maybe even Harbor Freight Tools, Home Depot, and Lowes.
my friend legend your video portuguese Brazil
Are there 4 stroke paramotor engines?
Yes, just Google it
I fly with the Bailey V5s. which are made in the UK.
What do you do for work?
what kinda fuel you used..? engine oil n fuel
Suggestion on torquing the head bolts. Go around a few times, by torquing bolt #2-4 it can cause #1 to become looser. Ideally you continue to go around the bolts until none of them turn, they all just click.
