- Just Planes is very happy to welcome Royal Air Maroc, the 270th airline in our Cockpit Series and 1st airline from North Africa! RAM celebrates its 60th Anniversary this year. The airline operates long haul Boeing 747, 767 and 787 service to Africa, Asia, North & South America. Our program features the latest addition to the fleet, the Dreamliner on one of its main routes across the North Atlantic to New York City
We're delighted to be joined by 2 charming ladies for this program who will present to you in details their work from the moment they arrive in Flight Operations to prepare the flight. They will talk about the aircraft, the flight, route, weather, departure and approach information and much more including why and how they became pilots. Incidentally our Captain was amongst the first 2 women pilots at Royal Air Maroc!

@@airdubai1 We filmed a dozen US airlines before 9/11 including United, Continental, Alaska Airlines, Atlas Air, Polar Air Cargo but after that none... Not sure if that will ever change...

As a proud moroccan, I flew on this plane many times and I had the pleasure to fly with these two amazing pilots. The captain has retired like 3 years ago.I wish her a wonderful life. She was soooo good. Butter smooth landigs. hats off to you ladies.

Wow! I am impressed. The fuel burn on the 787. 40t from CMN-JFK! Mamma Mia! I have worked for SAS (SK) and the 767 FBU-EWR was 52t for a flight of 8h.
Pretty amazing indeed compared to the older generation aircraft. No wonder the 747 is being retired
Just Planes the 748 is pretty fuel efficient too actually, when it‘s operated with a (nearly) full pax load. however at these times that‘s probably impossible. apart from that you have 4 engines to maintain instead of two. No problem for cargo though, there‘s no paxe who have to keep a distance and the cargo volume justifies the engine costs.
Respect to people who achieve and live their dreams.
It is so wonderful seeing these two ladies piloting the aircraft.

I did not know how to react to this video, I guess I was surprised to see someone that I have not seen in almost 40 years. I actually went to the same aeronautical school that the captain on the left (Bouchra Bernoussi) in this video went to, in the early eighties. The CFP-RAM (Centre De Formation Professionnelle- Royal Air Maroc) was a very small, but exclusive Academy, adjacent to the now-defunct Anfa Airport in Casablanca, Morocco. At the time, there were about 200 Moroccan students or so, and about two dozen international students in the whole school, ranging from aircraft mechanics of all sorts and degrees to stewards, engineers, and pilots. The school has moved to a different location many years ago now. Obviously, the now-captain in the video studied piloting, while I studied aircraft engineering/mechanics. Bouchra Bernoussi (the captain), and Oumaïma Sayeh (another female pilot who graduated at the same time) were the first Moroccan women pilots to officially fly commercial airplanes in Morocco. When the two women received their honorary awards from the now-deceased King Hassan II of Morocco (I received mine from the minister of transportation -no bragging here, but just for the history books), I remember, there was a sense of national pride and also a PR stunt from the king, but I have to say that those two women worked very hard, were very cool, down-to-earth modest, disciplined, and fun. Unfortunately, Oumaïma was killed in a plane crash (she was actually a passenger in that flight) flying from Agadir to Casablanca, where the crash was caused by a suicidal male captain against a contesting different female co-pilot. Destiny?

I look forward to the day when a statement about the gender of the pilots need not be said. Sadly that day is not today. I suspect I'm slightly senior to the Captain and so I am reflecting on the reality that she must be scary sharp (smart). To be a woman in an industry that has been so dominated by men, she has likely a very tough skin, a great mind, and I'm certain she could best most men in a given flight challenge. The copilot was lucky to have such an opportunity to team up with such a woman with that kind of experience. May they both serve many years with safety. Again I thank the production team for another great exposition of flight.
I'm sure in the next couple of years, after more female pilots get their stripes and wings, their gender will not be mentioned bc...the public will see more lady pilots, and the all the "novelty" has worn off. The more hours these ladies are piloting..the better they will get and then they can teach newer female aspiring pilots!
So yeah...I wouldnt put a lot of thought into this subject of gender. It will soon enough take care of itself. 🙂
P.S.; I think if they are being referred to as "women pilots", then you would have to consider context possibly. If the passengers are in a good mood bc they had a great flight etc.; I'm sure any reference to women pilot(s)
would be positive and complimentary. Now there are flights that whether it's a man woman pilot..there will disgruntled pax who may falsely blame the woman pilot. The airlines also need to push their female pilots to the flying public! I.E. send records of how safe the flights with women pilots ARE! Stuff like that could go a long way in clearing the issue. But it think it needs to be left alone..the flying public will figure it out.😁

Airbus uses joystick controls while Boeing still uses dual--hand control systems. I guess the pilots like both hands on the wheel rather just one. Probably a safer feeling for them.
Most people are right handed and the joy stick is on the left for the captain, so it takes a lot of practice to feel comfortable thats why still uses the yoke.
