As someone who has been tinkering with sr20s since 1998, I can appreciate a good video like this. A tech tip for the hydraulic lifters, you can use a small allen wrench to put inside the hole of the lifter while it is submerged in oil and push on the ball inside the lifter, you will see the air bubbles bleed out of it that way. It actually talks about that in the FSM.
Have you guys considered doing an engine teardown on one of your builds like the Supra? I would like to see how much wear is put on it from hard drag strip usage and how all these parts hold up. Love the content!
NGL this is my shit. A dear friend of mine I met in the Navy had a S14 with a red top in it when I had my R32 Skyline GTS. He passed away while enlisted, and this video made me think of him and our time together in Virginia Beach, tearing up the streets. Love you guys. Quinn's the man!
Awesome video, I love watching Quinn do engine rebuilds. I appreciate that he goes into such detail and explains everything so well. Makes me miss being back in my schools shop back in college. Now I’m sure Quinn caught this, but at 31:40 into the video I noticed the shop towels were still in the intake ports. Again, I’m sure Quinn caught it. But in the video I never saw them being removed. Not trying to put him on the spot or anything like that. I just don’t want all that hard work going to waste. I’ve seen it done in school and it caused a rod knock. Can’t wait to see more awesome engine build videos like this!
@throtl I know I'm late to the game for this video, but I wanted to give a big shout out to Quinn for explaining how an oil pump works. I've always been curious how a gear in a housing pumped oil and Quinns explanation was spot on. Love the channel and you guys built a hell of a car in Puerto Rico and looked like you had a blast.
i love your full engine builds, honestly wouldn't even care if you were doing the same engine again, its just nice going through the entire process, educating us amatures a little bit as you go... Tho it must be said, its satisfying seeing the engine built, then put in the car, then on the dyno. Its like getting that pay off at the end.
Guys! That bit with nate was amazing! Yall should do more of Quinn teaching people that dont do this stuff all the time. He is a great mechanic and teacher!!!
Wow - i love this approach to presenting a show on how to build an engine - the cars in the back - tables with all the tools and parts - and with the mistro Quinn detailing every single part and move....amazing video... i love these guys...i wish someday i get to this level or at least meet these guys in person at the shop....cant wait for the (old TJ's Shop) to be ready and functional...
Stellar work Gents. Quality description and detail. Speed of build is spot-on; nothing worse than having to sit through six weeks of procrastination. Quinn in his element!
Appreciate you guys putting up these engine build videos, they are very informative and interesting to watch. You definately have a talented crew, make it look SO Easy. Previous Owner of an SR20 powered car (2001 Sentra SE) that I bought new and actually sold to buy my first Evo in 2003👍The SR20 is an AMAZING Engine, Good Choice for the Z. Keep Up the Good Work Guys!!
Thanks for explaining the physics behind the mechanical operations. Always cool to understand the how and why things work. Keep up the awesome work fellas!
This was such a satisfying video to watch. I could watch quinn talk and build engines all day! would love to see a high RPM ITB K-series build next! or maybe a nice 13b for Quinn's RX7!
Quinn kills it on engine building and the details about building it ! Great job ! Would like to see Quinn build a LS motor or rotary! Keep up the great videos !!!
It's always a good day when Quinn just sits there and build engine. very entertaining and informative as a motor enthusiast myself much love Y'all at trotle❣️
This guy is amazing at building car, knowledge and the way he explains makes this type of video a real blast for an amateur like me. I wish i could tear my engine like this to make it "brand new" again (golf 6R)
So satisfying to watch. I'm a mechanic as well and watching this makes me want to build an engine again. Would love to see an BMW M Engine like the S55/58 or the S65 V8
Seriously Quinn, watching you put an engine together is always a blast. Idea for the Throtl team: Throtl Kids! Yes, basically do some videos for the little gearheads in the making. I am telling you, you wouldn't lose.
man im sure you know, you done a great job, i just happened to notice the blue rags left in the intake ports when you installed the intake, like i said im sure you know but i would hate for yall to go for a start with them in there! love the build man!
quinn one of the best additions to throtl. Literally has totally changed the dynamic of your videos and for the better. I hope he gets the appraisal within the shop he deserves
Lacing the rings 180° out from each other is the best way to keep the compression into the combustion chamber and not in the crankcase and keeps the oil in the crankcase instead of blowing it out of the exhaust
I can listen to Quinn talk about engines all day.
The guy knows his things man
Hell yeah! He is so damn knowledgeable. I love it!
There's just something about engines that calms me down 😊
He’s so dreamy 😂
You and me both! He’s so informative
I've said it before and I'll say it again; Quinn was a fantastic addition to the Throtl crew!!
Dare say… the BEST addition. Dude is a well of knowledge
I know about gapping piston rings, but I love quinn explaining. This format is good. And letting nate do it was fun!
Yes! Nate was awesome on camera. Seeing someone learn from Quinn was good.
Fr I love seeing this teaching your friend better so they know better
Quinn and Ricky is the dynamic Duo that Keeps Throttle at the top. 💯

I cannot get enough of Quinn building engines. Great content
I’m a VW guy and would love to see you guys do a VR6 turbo.
Have you guys considered doing an engine teardown on one of your builds like the Supra? I would like to see how much wear is put on it from hard drag strip usage and how all these parts hold up. Love the content!
To much time
You probably wont see much.
It hasn't been used that hard either... It's not like they are drag racing it every weekend. Lot of time and money to see... well, probably nothing.
they did it already so the engine could handle all that boost and upgrades, is the 2JZ tear down video they did like a year ago
There’s a lot of K series builds out there, but none have that Quinn narration! So much knowledge in that man!
We are watching a MASTER at Work!
What a mechanic, and teacher! I have been impressed from his 1st engine build and twirly wrenches. Respect!!!
Awesome video, I love watching Quinn do engine rebuilds. I appreciate that he goes into such detail and explains everything so well. Makes me miss being back in my schools shop back in college.

Noticed it too, but I thought, probably just a test fit on video.
He's definitely taking the manifold off while putting the engine in the car
why would you assume that?@@Raijinlu we install motors with both manifolds on all day
@powerautosportsusa9691 I am sure it's like Karoi said, they put it on just to show it all.. no need to get so serious about it man
@throtl I know I'm late to the game for this video, but I wanted to give a big shout out to Quinn for explaining how an oil pump works. Listening and watching Quinn build and explain about engines is so wholesome, the guy is a master in the subject
Watching Quinn work his magic is so satisfying. Absolute wizard!!

Tho it must be said, its satisfying seeing the engine built, then put in the car, then on the dyno. Its like getting that pay off at the end.
I believe this is the first detailed engine build that Throtl has done, AND IM HERE FOR IT!!!!! Love the video, keep of the good work!
Learning from Quinn never gets old. Thank you guys for loving what you do.
Guys! That bit with nate was amazing! Yall should do more of Quinn teaching people that dont do this stuff all the time. He is a great mechanic and teacher!!!

everyone in throtl are so unique and talented in their own way! Seeing quinn being so passionate about his engine knowledge is mindblowing 🔥
Stellar work Gents. Quality description and detail. Speed of build is spot-on; nothing worse than having to sit through six weeks of procrastination. Quinn in his element!

5 minutes in, and already a great video! Quinn doing the Lord's work teaching this.

Nice job. Can’t wait for startup. Oh hell yeah 13B!
So satisfying to watch. I'm a mechanic as well and watching this makes me want to build an engine again. Would love to see an BMW M Engine like the S55/58 or the S65 V8

that's what I like with Quin, the master of engine rebuilding👍think I should take a lesson with him👍very nice
Im no mechanic im no engineer but quinn explaining engines, I feel like i can disassemble and assemble my engine in an hour
I have an S13 Silvia with a red top. I want to add power. Thanks for such an in depth parts list.
Quality engine builds are the only thing missing from these cars. Quinn getting it done.
An EJ build would be sick!

Did you mean to leave the shop towels in the intake? Look at time stamp 31:40. Awesome video keep it up!
Noticed this as well, Im assuming an editing omission :)
Any and all engines welcome! Love these build vids
Solid video, surprised with a build like this you didn't do a baffled lower oil pan!
I love engine builds with Quinn 😊 maybe LS next?
Quinn, You do great work my man! Let's see a monster EJ build though! I think it would fit in perfectly with your F&F theme
Very nice Video, and the way you guy's explain every step and component is very awesome. Greetings from Germany.
Just beautiful man, and the 3 classic JDMs in the background ❤
Love this kind of videos that Throtl does
That was so cool to see the whole process. With a JZ and RB and an SR done what about a VQ series like a VQ37.
Damn. We need more video with Quinn building engines, he's inspiring men 😂
Quinn is the Bob Ross of engine building
Nice build as always. A K-Series would be nice. B-Series are welcome too.
quinn one of the best additions to throtl. Literally has totally changed the dynamic of your videos and for the better. I hope he gets the appraisal within the shop he deserves
incredible, that’s the engine from an Sunny/Tsuru GSR200 here in Mexico 🤌💞
Pretty nice job explaining the build man. Props SR20s have fallen off a bit, but man what an awesome engine!
Love engine builds with Quinn.
I love these videos with Quinn pleaseeee keep doing them
I had a 200SX SE-R and I built that engine to a SR20 DET spec. I also used 300z pistons that were pretty cheap at that time.
Quinn is a master in his trade!
Lacing the rings 180° out from each other is the best way to keep the compression into the combustion chamber and not in the crankcase and keeps the oil in the crankcase instead of blowing it out of the exhaust
After RB, 2JZ and SR20 next up VR38DETT, VQ35HR, 13B rotary and LS to complete the epic lineup 🤩
Quinn the evil genius!!! let's go!!!
There's just something about engines that calms him down ya know?😉
