This is the best collab ever
Always love your content, this seems like it will be a great video!
Solid collab, great video. I hope to see you work with Colin again sometime in the futute
remember the bodge.
archery not arching.
This was a fun day……I want a hovercraft now lol.
But you already have one? The hover bike!
You do have a craft that also hovers though
If only you had a UA-cam channel where you build stuff hmmmmm
WHENS THE NEXT TUNNEL VID FURZE?!
make it
Tom Scott's hovercraft service has really declined, back in my day they served alcohol to passers by legally without a license!
What a throwback!
Ah yes, the beer float. Good times!
I understood that reference.
Also there's a clear lack of everyones favorite Gary Bannan, Gary Bannan
@@Draugo oh don't get me started on the lack of bounce and literature
For anyone that doesn't know: *Colin and Tom used to co-host BBC's "Gadget Geeks", and is how they both got their start on TV/producing content.*
It was a Sky show, not BBC!
Wait i had no idea i thought both of them were just youtubers
@@beegyoshi6525 They pre-date UA-cam's existence.
That's wild, I had no idea.
is this the show mentioned on tom's emoji keyboard history video?
4:00 The dualty of this duo is unparalleled. Tom flinches after the hovercraft pulls away, throwing up grass, dirt, and a proper gust of wind, and Colin just stands there, because for him this situation is a regular Tuesday.
Or you could say... Furzeday.
I had to rewind to see this and boy, it made me grin like a child
He's like "at least it's not fire balls"
@@nagranoth_ Knife belt.
His tie flapping about is literally his logo
[3:27]
Colin: "I like how you use the word 'fly'"
Tom: "I like how you use the word 'easy'!"
I love Colin just going engineer/geek mode and Tom just panicking.
Not trying to be rude but I think Colin is better at the physical, and Tom is better at the mental.
@@Medabee8 together they can change the world - or race in hovercrafts which is equally awesome
I just wanna watch Tom and Colin hang out. I don't even care what they're doing, but I know it'll be a fun time. Two of the most positive, upbeat, "hey, check out this cool thing" guys on YT. Well done, gents!
They used to be on a BBC TV show together. That's where they both got their start on video. It was called Gadget Geeks.
Well said!
Add James may and restart Top Gear!
@@WillBreaksStuff that's the closest thing to being a perfect top gear cast other then the original I'm down
Bit of a personality clash tho.
Admittedly, this is significantly less destructive than Colin's usual fare.
Yes no fire involved either!
I met Colin at makers Central. Birmingham N.E.C he even broke the 3D printed go cart. (The steering wheel came. Off). I had a bit of a chat with him he's a great guy.
Wow props to them for being able to remember that course description at all. I would be so completely lost on that green-on-green course with only tiny barely visible flags whose order I wouldn't be able to remember as guidance.
Seems like the course design was the worst part of the video, overly complicated for no reason other than confuse and take time.
@@NightBlado The archery instruction and equipment was by far the worst part of the video.
"you can tell I'm not used to safety equipment" sums Colin up well
A collab i didn't expect, but a welcome one nonetheless
Not the first time they collab ;)
you could've easily expected it
They used to work on a tv show together
Colin Furze x Tom Scott is an entirely logical paring to me.
Old colleagues working together again.
I reckon judging criteria for this should be style, control, damage, and aggression…
I feel like I've heard that somewhere before...
Where was that from? Robot Wars?
@@Poldovico Yes
That should be the judging criteria for everything, really
Result would be the same; Furze by a landslide.
To be perfectly fair, Tom has only learned to ride a bike a few months ago i think. And that was a video for this channel too!
Compared to Colin who obviously made and ridden a bunch of wacky bicycles, including the drift trike, of course the time would be far between each other.
Tom learned to ride a bike a few months ago. Colin got famous by riding a motorbike horizontally around his "Wall of Death" made out of left over skids. Tom learned parkour a few months ago. Colin holds multiple high speed world records. Totally fair.
Tom already had a go on a hovercraft twice
@@felixhamel1853 Colin has a hoverbike
Ummm... the drift trike count is at least 3 by now...
Now that you put it that way, that was definitely not an evenly matched competition.
The racetrack animation from 13:50 onwards is simply top-notch, really well done! Great video :)
Tom's really just completed the main story and started doing side quests at this point.
"The exam won't be too hard, only a few things to remember"
The exam: 13:53
Thank you to whoever spends the time to make the captions the best I've ever seen on a youtube video. I didn't even know you could have different colors!
4:00 Tom is ready to defend himself, Colin just goes for the smile and safetysquint.
Tom just radiates stress and anxiety. I can't really stand to watch most of the time.
Tom wouldn't have to if he'd remembered his safety tie
The power of the safety tie
@@Barnaclebeard I find it really admirable that he's willing to show those traits online. We criticize media for being plastic and vain but Tom's just out here being a normal dude. I too radiate stress and anxiety and now I want to go hoverboarding **anxiously**.
@@floobdedoop2892 I really appreciate this take
I imagine Gary is watching this and just screaming obscenities about Sark and Hovercrafts.
"I could do that." - Chris, probably
Have you watched the bonus content thing of that Citation Needed episode? It's in the description.
Tom Scott has a real thing for hovercrafts.
1. Tom Scott on air;
2. Hovercraft archery and axe throwing sounds suspiciously similar to motorway jousting.
10:42 The person behind the camera zooming out in case Tom came short again is the funniest part of this entire video
I love how this all started with Tom going "Hey, wanna do something with hovercrafts? Here's the exact time and place." and Colin just went "sure". It's precious.
They definitely need some longer arrows for that bow. Things can go wrong if people pull back too far and loose before realising the tip has dropped. You can get an arrow through your riser (handle) or through your hand!
Just what i was thinking. Also they're using a left hand bow for right hand by looks of it.
I feel like Colin played outside as a kid and Tom didn't, it just gives you more intuition for any physics related activities.
“10,000 volts coming up.”
Colin plays outside NOW and Tom doesn't.
I didn't and can confirm. Although, I'd say it's less about "physics intuition" and more about feeling and controlling your own body.
Considering Tom didn't know how to ride a bike, seems accurate.
@@yt45204 It's outside the house (even if it's downwards) and outside the norm :)
Tom: "like a duck to water"
1) Tom and ducks again
2) Ducks go on land, water and can fly..... kind of like a hovercraft.
I mean, the title may be correct, but with this minimal experience Tom is now better than the average person at flying a hovercraft. We'll take it!
The 2 most brainy brits I know having a fun time with hovercrafts is what I needed right about now.
You've never heard of Stephen Hawking, then?
@@klaxoncow not sure dead people count tbh
@@klaxoncow isn't that a voice option on your sat nav?
@@klaxoncow I think it'll be rather challenging for Prof. Hawking to have fun on a hovercraft right now, on account of being dead for several years.
@@thesaxophoneboy psh, like he'd let a little thing like that stop him.
13:49 "There's three grabbers, three taggers, five twig runners and the player at whackbat. Centre tagger lights the pine cone, chucks it over the basket, and the whackbatter tries to hit the cedar stick off the cross rock. Then the twig runners dash back and forth until the pine cone burns out and the umpire calls hotbox. Finally, you count up however many score-downs it adds up to and divide that by nine."
Mr fantastic fox reference
made my day xD
As an archer, watching Tom's form with the bow was very painful
I'm struggling, were they using a left handed bow? I'm looking at the side that the knock is on, and the arrow looks to be on the opposite side than I think it should be.
I'm not even an archer (I just like archery and have done it a few times casually) and even I was wincing. As soon as I saw that arm I was like 'he's not gunna do anything good with that' -- but then doubted myself when the instructor said nothing! And then checked Colin's form when they took their next shot and was like 'yup, that'll explain why they're doing better on that one' 😂
@@sparrowd4712 It is a left-handed bow, as an archer and archery instructor this stuff anoys me a lot.
@@Ihwaz13 thanks for confirming! I thought it was, just couldn't make it out to be sure.
@@sparrowd4712
I think it’s worth noting that, though that is a left-handed bow, the side the arrow rests on doesn’t really matter, especially with this type of bow where you wouldn’t need to change much of your form (if at all) for the arrow to fly straight
That was better than 90% of the big production gameshows on TV; everyone was so nice, and the events were fun. Not2Fast Not2Furious.
2furze 2furious
Two iconic ensembles in British educational UA-cam battle it out: Tom's red t-shirt and grey hoodie vs. Colin's short sleeve button up and safety tie. Allez fashion!
Oh, I was hoping you'd get Chris on, considering his bizarrely quick taking to using one in that Technical Difficulties bonus clip.
I guess Colin Furze versus Chris Joel doing this would have been a better challenge
@@MercenaryPen Chris Joel chucking axes is something I desperately want to see now
@@sohamsengupta6470 Just chucking Axes at folk
They taught you to shoot a left bow right handed. In the worst way possible. It's not your fault tom.
still think the hovercraft pub is the best thing tom has done on a hovercraft
Marvel: This is the biggest cross over in history.
Colin: Hold my Pulse Jet
*laughs in Gadget Geeks*
I love the fact that there is a "crew retreat counter" XD
I can’t see the word hovercraft without reading it in Matt’s voice (specifically from the sark football team episode of citation needed)
"Let's just run it" These lads are so Lads it's indescribable
I think you two would have been much better at the archery if you had been (a) shown proper technique, with (b) a bow that was sized more sensibly for you, that (c) wasn’t bloody left-handed!!!
Was going to say much the same.
do you mean that the bow was constructed to be left-handed, or that they're holding it the wrong way 'round?
@@milabirch7356 It’s a bow constructed to be shot left handed. As in, held with the right hand and the string pulled with the left. Would be a perfect bow for a left handed child, not 2 right-handed adults!!!
gotcha
Asian and eastern European shooting traditions both use a right-sided shot. Maybe also the fact that they were shooting with masks on favored a different archery style with a short draw (pull back to the nose rather than to the ear or jaw). Not too familiar with other traditions myself, but I am aware that there ARE different ones.
OMG A GADGET GEEKS REUNION!!!???
The drone shot with route animation around the 14:00 is perfect
I feel like now we need a video dedicated to Tom learning archery.
(The fact that I'm an archer might make me a bit biased.)
I'm not an archer, but I still demand Tom Scott learning archery
Now I want to see how Chris Joel (the ornithologist xD) would do on this course!
From the hovercraft special back in the days, I guess he'd be near 3 minutes raw time and probably some points off from the archery...
I'd love to see Tom have some proper Archery lessons, I think that would make a fun video!
Me too! That lesson was atrocious....
Looks like Tom needs a Archery day
These guys could build a terminator together. Furze fabricates the mech and actuators, Scott bodges the five raspberry pis that control it
Yarnold does the physical electronics stuff, Scott writes the code for it.
It's alright Tom, even those blokes over at The Grand Tour can't drive a hovercraft.
Why do I want to see Tom wearing Colin's shirt and tie and Colin wearing Tom's hoodie after watching this video? I feel like it would be a good content for these two to swap attire on one video.
I can see a pattern going through these videos.
Next video: "I'm talking to John Doe, who's going to teach me how to run a pub."
That is an intended pattern! Look at the title card at 0:57: "tom scott *plus* colin furze"
These guys are both great sportsmen. They're both trying to give each other the win in the pre-flight and the post-mortem, and doing their damnedest on the course. Good show!
I love that you're both each other's encouragement and color commentary.
I fee like the flags could have been organized in some kind of ROY G BIV order, to make them easier to remember.
Everyone is saying they have been waiting for this collab but no one seems to remember they were on the TV show Gadget Geeks together
I don't think I've ever seen a human with less hand eye coordination than Tom Scott but that's part of what makes it so entertaining.
NICE! A little Gadget Geeks reunion! What a greet/unique competition to have. It's interesting just how much body weight plays into piloting a personal hovercraft, but.... now that I've seen it, it makes sense. This is such a great example too of why this channel is so good; we never know what we're going to see, just that it'll be fun. :)
I really appreciate the colored subtitles. Thank you Tom or whoever did them :)
To be fair a "Drive by axe throwing...on a hovercraft" is the most *youtube video* thing I have heard of in a year or so, I'm sure some other channel will try it.
I love the Colin - Tom duo, it's a bliss through and through. We need more of these collabs!
Me when a stranger asks how to find a building on the next street: 13:50
Holy crap. Captions on this actually change color based on who's talking. My god, that makes it so much better and easier to know who's talking at the moment. Whoever did this, thanks!
“It’s like an air bed that goes”
Best description of a hovercraft I’ve ever heard 😂
For a second I thought this was something Colin had arranged and invited Tom for, with a hovercraft Colin had built
The bow was a left handed bow. That was weird cause they all shot right handed
Have to say, I really appreciate that you don't have ham-fisted segues into your ad reads. You aren't trying to make the sponsor part of the episode because truth be told, it isn't. It's refreshing.
You just gotta love the shot at 18:14, all that grass flying through the air.
I wouldn't be mad about the performance. This activity/challenge practically sums up Colin's entire channel in one video. He's right in his element. And he's more of a "I'm gonna press this and see what happens". Tom's more of a "can I press this? will something bad happen if I do? oh I don't know if I should". And that's fine. 😅
The good ol' Flying TomScottsman
You guys should have had the staff show you a run on the course for comparison.
I would definitely chalk it up to experience. Colin's personal hovercraft would have taught him how much his own bodyweight affects the steering, meanwhile Tom has absolutely zero prior experience with anything like this. Well done both of you. Nice to see these are a sport now. I remember when it was incredible we could do this at all.
Right-handed archery with a left-handed bow?? No wonder they were having problems hitting the target.
Isn't this where you did the hoverpub? Excellent video, by the way.
Tom Scott and Rock music - that's new
I had no idea how much I needed Colin's manic energy and Tom's quieter wit in the same video until now.
How was Colin so good at the axe so fast?? That's REALLY hard to do
There’s something so wholesome about seeing them just going on a jog around the course
I never thought I would see Tom Scott and Colin Furze having an axe throwing competition during a hovercraft race.
Jorge Sprague and Colin Furze Yes!! Colin Furze and Tom Scott Not Really.
@@worldtraveler930 do you mean Joerg Sprave?

that was a strange bow hold.
elbow higher, body more turned towards the camera (i.e. more sideways), back straight and hand to the cheek.
you either go low (and use the jawbone and thumb) or go high (and use the cheek bone and the index knuckle or the second joint).
a good teacher should always teach dangerous things properly...
i read this as lovecraft battle, and was wondering why Collin furze was going to be doing a trivia quiz with you
So much information...I would have forgotten it instantly!
To be fair, Tom has done at least 2 videos on hovercraft before, the unlicensed pub and the extras of the Sark football team citation needed episode
we can't imagine remembering the whole route of that course, haha, it sounds so complicated
Seems like the course design was the worst part of the video, overly complicated for no reason other than confuse and take time.
@@NightBlado i imagine the *idea* was to make a course that required them to understand turning and think on their feet a bit, but it could've been simpler
Literally the first 3 seconds I loudly gasp and just had a huge grin on my face with this collab
Colins experiance in piloting crazy contraptions shows
"As airbed that goes." Class. This kind of deadpan condensation of language and causal descriptions is a big part of what got me into British comedy, initially with Douglas Adams, in grade school.
Nice to see Colin and Tom working together again, its been so long since gadget geeks
Colin and Tom Scott?! I'm 14 seconds in and I already love this video!
This is the only time I've seen Colin Furze wear a helmet!
The music makes this feel like a truck commercial. All we need is some voice over by Dennis Leary and we'll be moving some building materials across muddy dirt tracks.
This series is turning into an alternate-dimension top gear where the presenter is actually likeable
This is like the third time in Tom's career that he's been aboard a hovercraft.
I love how quickly you both gave up on running the course when you realised just how big the course actually is 😅
The crossover no-one didn't think to not expect
Colin isn't familiar with a helmet... Normally he's got the safety-tie...
ALL Hale the Safety TIE!!! 🤠👔👍
It's so weird seeing him with a helmet
I've been waiting for this collaboration for years, and it was well worth it.
Did you ever watch Gadget Geeks (Sky1, 2012)?...
Colin appears to have exited the tunnel for this crossover.
This needs to be a full season of you two ! Engineering trials, speed trials, treasure hunt trials. This is what youtube needs! Absolute gold!
Buy longer arrows!! With adults using short arrows you run a much bigger risk of them pulling back too far, slipping the arrow off its rest and firing an arrow into the back of their own hand. Shorter arrows should really only be used by experienced archers or small humans.
Arrows that short should not be used by anyone who is strong enough to easily draw the bow past the length of the arrow, no matter how inexperienced they might be.
These new channel videos are always so fun
Did anyone else read "I had a lovecraftian battle with Colin Furze"?
I'm very slightly disappointed but still pleased.
I love it when two of my favorite UA-camrs have a collab video together
