    How did Kevin manage to eat the spinach plain with no salad dressing? lol
    Anyway, tomorrow I'm attending the 35th and final Waupun Truck-N-Show in Waupun, WI. The annual event is retiring this year. Show goes on today and tomorrow. Going to miss attending this show every year. Over the years they've been having two parades during the event. Night to Shine parade at 9pm on Friday, and daytime parade at 3pm Saturday.

    Tanya, neither you nor anyone else has ANY right WHATSOEVER to dictate what someone on SNAP does or does not, or should, or should not, purchase with their benefits, and it is not for you to lecture others as regards the nutritional value or lack thereof of whatever they choose to purchase with those benefits, irrespective of your assertion (however accurate said assertion may or may not be) that those benefits are being paid for by your tax dollars. There are federal laws that dictate what may and may not be purchased with SNAP benefits. As long as the recipient of those benefits is in compliance with those laws, you have NO right to dictate to them how they use them. So you need to get off your high horse about that and knock that self-righteous chip off your shoulder!!!!

    • @TheJoyofTrucking
      @TheJoyofTrucking  Місяць тому +4

      I see that my comment really hit a nerve for you. And whatever hardship you have been through to make this such a passionate issue for you…I am sorry.
      All I said was “That’s my tax dollars paying for not very nutritious food. That’s not really what I had in mind.”
      First of all, that is my opinion. Just as you are able to express your opinion in these comments, (we welcome comments and opinions as long as they follow our channel guidelines) we have a right to express our opinions, especially since we are the creators of these videos and the channel.
      Second, I am expressing an opinion. I am not “dictating” anything or “lecturing others.” As you said, there are laws that set the perimeters as to what can be purchased with SNAP benefits. That does not mean everyone agrees with them. And, you can be assured there’s a lot of lobbying and back door deals involved, not solely a concern for the nutritional needs of recipients.
      Third, I do not mind contributing my tax dollars for the greater good and for social programs. But, in this case I am surprised, to discover the SNAP sticker on an ice-cream machine at a truck stop.
      I would hope that recipients would use them at grocery stores, not truck stops, where food selection is limited and not particularly healthy.
      Many people live in food deserts. Having access to nutritious food is paramount for good health. So I hope people in this neighborhood aren’t having to buy their food at the truck stop.
      We have never noticed a SNAP sticker on an ice cream machine at a truck stop before. It is out of the ordinary in our experience. Therefore I filmed it and commented on it.
      I wish good for all people and therefore would hope that my tax dollars would be used to help people get the best nutrition possible, not ice cream at a truck stop.
      And as I said. That is my opinion. And I’m sticking to it. I’d rather see people in need supported in healthy ways and help empower them through good food.

      @@robyn2344 Thanks Robyn! Yes. I totally understand. It’s sad that some people get so mean and rude on UA-cam comments (and elsewhere). Like you say…it’s fine to have different opinions (how boring the world would be if we all thought exactly the same). But it’s not fine to be really nasty about it. Some of the comments I delete would make your head spin. Luckily UA-cam has a filter where some of the worst ones are held from public view until I can make a decision about publishing them or not. The language used there is often very colorful!
      Sorry you have ended up getting mean responses to some of your comments on UA-cam. You have found an innovative solution. 🤩 Glad I had a chance to read your comment before you delete it. 🤗

      @@robyn2344 We are so sad to hear that you were verbally abused at a Crete terminal! That is inexcusable! People should feel safe at their place of work!! Sorry that happened to you!
      We get mostly positive comments, though I have had some very misogynistic comments that initially shocked me. In the meantime it has really helped me get better at not taking things personally.
      You are right!!! Keeping things positive and trusting that the sun will always come up again allows for a happier joyful life. I now mostly feel pity for people who leave nasty comments. They must have a lot of pain in their lives that they haven’t figured out how to deal with in an effective way for healing.
      We appreciate your long driving career, your authentic comments, and hope that we get to meet someday! 🤗

    Got a question for ya'll. I would like an honest answer. I can take a punch ! haha. Love your vids by the way. I have recently retired from the medical field. When I was a lot younger I used to drive, but I was married and she wanted me around the house more often. So I left and went to school for the medical field. After a wonderful 27 year career I finally retired from hospital and since she is no longer around I would like to get back to trucking. OTR not local. Now here is the million $ question. I am 67 years old and quite healthy, have my DOT physical. Will a company hire someone my age? I know you might say it is discriminating but come on. they will find some reason not to hire. Another thing is I don't want to spend all that money for a school and not being able to get hired on. Be safe out there

    • @TheJoyofTrucking
      @TheJoyofTrucking  Місяць тому

      Hi there! Thanks for reposting your question. We understand your concern. And our answer is only our opinion as we are not experts in hiring practices. We can tell you that we have met lots of older drivers and it doesn’t seem to be a concern in the industry as long as you pass your DOT physical. In Canada provinces have different rules, some limiting drivers at 65 and others at 70. In the US there is no age limit.
      We would suggest calling some starter companies, like Werner or Swift for example, and asking them. Maybe ask for statistics about age at hire, since certainly they couldn’t admit to ageism if they practice it. There is a high turnover for drivers in the first year. So those starter companies are always looking.
      If you attend a school linked to a company, for example Roadmaster/Werner we would think they’d hire you. But that school is more expensive and you’d have to pay it back if you leave early. Kevin was 59 when he got us CDL in February of 2021 for $4,000 at Phoenix Truck Driving Institute. If you really want to drive that might be a risk worth taking.
