- Landscape photography can be a challenge when the photographer feels uninspired. This is how I was starting to feel as autumn slowly decayed in to winter and the rain never seemed to stop. In this video I manage to escape the UK and enjoy some landscape photography on the island of Lanzarote.

That pano is a keeper. Extraordinary colour, great atmosphere and wonderful timing.
I was out there in January for 10 days and even though it was a family holiday, i got out for sunrise 10 mornings in a row. It is a lovely island.
Am I the only one with a mental image of Mrs Heaton perusing the spa menu whilst saying "ahh, you need another couple of hours with the camera dear, what a shame..." 😂

When you were chunterring away at 6:20 I was thinking “look over your shoulder, that green bush against a pure black background will look brilliant”...minutes later!

Struggle to get myself out of the door for the last couple of weeks.
Looking outside is just bland, grey skies. No light, no shadows, no mist. Just bad. Today is another day that was just "meh". And now a Video of you. Thanks for cheering me up.

I can’t believe I only see this video now. The town you’ve been staying in is Tinajo. I lived there for 15 years and it was Lanzarote that got me into photography. That hill you’ve been on, I’ve been up there so many times and I’m super stocked to see you this happy there. Lanzarote is a very special place and a photographers dream. Thank you for sharing this video!

"Just grab your camera and go... anything can happen" is about the best advice I have ever heard. It has worked out SO well for me... many of my favourite pictures were taken when I least expect them to show up. When you're just sitting there on your hands watching some UA-cam channel (Not this one!) grab your camera and just find a place to go. Google parks or flower gardens, just SOMETHING to take a chance on getting a great image. Screw the weather, it COULD work in your favour!!! Thanks for that advice Thomas!!!
That final pano was worth it! A lovely reward for your day out. Ignore all those claiming that you were taking a silly risk in travelling. With basic precautions you are no more at risk than you would be if you stayed in your home town. Hope you had a good time. All the best sir.

What an awesome location! I’ve always wanted to visit a volcanic island or landscape like Iceland or a place like this, I’ve just always been fascinated by them, as well as for photography, the dark sand/gravel is just so beautiful... awesome video! The last photo was probably my favorite but I also really loved the second image... so simple, but so fun to explore... great job Tom... keep up the amazing work! Have a nice day/night!
I would have LOVED to have seen a truly minimalistt shot of just that green rock against the black you can see around 6.22

Surprisingly good place to photograph. I did the same a couple of years ago, snuck a mornings shooting into the middle of a family holiday. I would really recommend Photo Safari Lanzarote if anyone is holidaying there. They pick you up at your hotel and take you to some amazing locations. Great if you’re short on time and want to maximise your opportunity.

I visited Lanzarote in Februrary - it was one of my dreams actually because it's gives that "another planet" feeling :) Well, I was lucky and unlucky, because there was a sandstorm (in Morocco to be more precise, and all these sand arrived to Lanzarote) and whole sky was orange, so it really, really felt like being on Mars, but at the same time the air was very dense, I couldn't shot the landscape almost at all due to very limited visibility. Actually it was supposed to be my first photo-trip only, having all spots selected, know where should i be during sunries, where during sunset. I prepared the best I could and ... it all failed haha ;) Fortunately 2-3 days later, the visibility improved a bit ;) Love the video :)
Aahhh, yes. Lanzarote ... lovely childhood memories. First time with a saltwater-pool. Accidentaly swallowed os much saltwater I spend the first night over the toilet for some hours :(

Fantastic vlog. I do wonder how a muted colored version of the second extremely minimalist image would’ve looked like. I figure the one spot of green in a black landscape would be nice. And man it’s always nice to see you so elated when magnificent unexpected light happens! It’s a nice break to see you so excited when things happen that are extravagant and unexpectedly. Great pano Thomas. I swear the best sunsets are when it looks grey and rainy with just a sliver of clear sky near the ocean or horizon where it can sneak in some golden hour light. Awesome!

Lanzarote is an amazing island, I know it well because I live in Gran Canaria. Is a magical experience walk through the volcanos, and is a good choice to fly away to put a new fuel in your creativity tank. You're very lucky with the weather because in this period we are having some weeks of clouds and rains. Beautiful photos as usual.

Great vid as always, Thomas. I'd love to see those first 2 images in colour. B&W is great, but I think the unexpected green against the black would work even better, just so unexpected and provide colour contrast.

8:51 I wonder how this photo will look in color, as most of the background is already black and that moss shrub's color would have provided a good contrast. Is it possible for you to post a color image on Instagram? 😊
