Sweet, Mover. These maneuvers make much more sense in terms of the rationale and what you're doing with the aircraft's frame to achieve that. For those interested in another visual, and I'm not trying to plug another guy's channel here, but Air Combat Tutorial Library does some excellent visuals of this technique with WWII birds and other DCS stuff. It happens a bit slower, but the technique and theory are the same or similar principles.

As someone that would like to learn as much of the real procedures as practical for DCS and reads NATOPS for fun (!? well not fun, but they do help me) it's awesome watching you go through the setup and comparing it to the manual because it explains things to me that I either missed or misunderstood.
I'm always limited in the information I can gather, relying on declassified documents and the odd scrap of info, always declassified of course, from somewhere else, and not having any real life subject experts to ask questions of (even if they could or could not answer me) so seemly little details can clarify a great deal for me.
Thanks so much, I really enjoyed this, and the debrief video also.
Now I'll be able to recreate this with my sim buddies and we'll all be better fighters because of it.

You might not go into tactics, but I would recommend for anyone who wants to really hit tactics hard to buy "Fighter Combat: Tactics and Maneuvering" by Robert Shaw. Frankly I wouldn't be surprised if most squadrons had at least one copy of the book. It might be hard to pick up from the start, but it is very comprehensive and on point for all air combat going from WW1 to the foreseeable future. I've found online tactical discussions to have a ton of misinformation, so accurate sources like that are important to move beyond the basics. Plus applying the lessons, a lot of sim pilots learn their BFM very well but regress to bank and yank when they want to use it.

Very cool video. What impressed me was the briefing. Most virtual pilots do not, and hence the elemental errors, confusions, and disorientation come from there. You can feel the ease, calmness and confidence with which Mover fills the flight. From this it shows that we should really pay more attention to briefings and BFM and devote much more time and practice to perfecting. To reach a level in which there is no thought or tension, but precisely this calmness, ease and confidence like that of Mover. Thanks Mover and Wags.

Thank you both, very much, for an entertaining and informative half-hour of sim combat training. I was just watching Flight Chops earlier going through his IFR training, and between the two videos it really shows how important radio communications are in flying. Growing up I had wanted to be a fighter pilot (on the road aimed at becoming an astronaut), but after spending 4 years in the Royal Canadian Air Cadets in the early 70's, I discovered that I had problem with math, which later turned out to be Dyslexia/Dyscalculia (dyslexia with numbers). I could understand the math, and you have a MENSA level IQ, but can't add up a column of numbers correctly all the time, it's not a good idea to go into something where reversing two numbers could kill you! And that ended any career ideas for being a pilot. :-( But if I had been able to go on, I would have ended up flying the Canadian variants of the F-5 and the F/A-18, which makes this video especially fascinating to me.

If you can wait til Christmas, then I urge you to wait JUST 2 weeks longer! I think we will get a lot of forward guidance on VR 2.0 in early January, at the CES Tech show in Vegas. Jan 8-11th.
We SHOULD expect big things. The year 2020 has all the makings for everything to fall into place to make all your VR dreams come true. 2080ti level graphics cards will likely drop to a much more consumer-friendly under $1k pricepoint. Valve is so close to creating a Pimax 5k+ dominating device if only they seal-the-deal and up the FoV on the current Index Screens. An Index2.0 would be an obvious winning strategy for Valve that would overnight make every Oculus, HTC, WMR, seem worthy of a child's toy. PIMAX is getting better, too. The number of owners I find while talking in the UA-cam comments is growing, and while they have reservations about giving an outright recomendation to others, they overwhelmiingly are adopting a _"You can have my Pimax 5k+ when you pry it from my cold dead hands"_ attitude.
If anybody in the headset market announces LeapMotion Control integration, or a Wide-field FoVeated iris-tracking headset targeted for $1,500 or under, it would be a steal worth waiting for! Imagine using your fingers to interact with cockpit switches in your F-18 DCS, or your 747 in AeroflyFS2, P3D, or Xplane! FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER, THE FUTURE OF VR IS NOT 10 YEARS AWAY!! It's _MAYBE_ next year!

@@czdaniel1 Thank for the reminder that the CES is in January.👍 Personally I don't think that Valve will release or show a new Headset 2020. The index with its up to 144Hz and expandeble front bay and finger tracking Controllers is still very very new and not at its limits. With the new uprising of AMD CPU and GPU and Intel's dedicated GPU we will see lots of movement in 2020. I will still upgrade my GPU at the end of this year to an RTX 2080 Ti even if 2020 brings something better. What I will invest more in the 2080 Ti is not lost even if newer and better GPU may come. The 2080Ti will still be a good Card and waht I payed more is the price for having the card ~8 months earlier. That's waht I think about the Index too. The 144Hz are realy nice to have and will be hard to run on most Systems. If the next big VR Headset has an even greater Res per Eye it will come with a new impact on Frames and the high refresh rate will not be possible to run on my system potentially.

@@GER-Thorgs -- Check PCPARTPICKER once a week or so. NewEgg has periodically every few weeks been dropping the MSI 2080ti SeaHawk (Has built-in 120mm liquid radiator) to as little as $1,019
      _[after $100 instant promo-code, $50 instant savings and a $30 Mail-in-Rebait..So like $1,049 at moment of purchase.]_
It also has like a +200mHz OC Boost-Clock vs Stock to go with the liquid cooling. I doubt you will ever get that good a deal on a new 2080ti anywhere else in 2019.

Corner velocity and energy management exercise. Man, without out-of-plane, that's tough.

Very interesting, despite the fact I can't see where Wags is in the cockpit view. Maybe the dot labels would help ?

Very exciting, it’s nice from you to share some of your knowledge to devs, it’s a nice source for them I guess regarding what can be improved. Hopefully we can see more DCS stuff on your channel :D
I’d like to know though what you think about aircraft visibility in DCS? I feel like it’s too hard to spot a plane flying above you or beneath the horizon line, when spotting airliners IRL in the sky it’s very much possible to see the aircraft in front of the trails unlike in DCS, and I’m having a much easier time spotting aircrafts flying around when I’m in the air, but both situations are not even close to spotting a fighter.
Will we see flying videos again in the future as well?
    Thank you

I didn't have any issues that I wouldn't have had in the jet. Using VR, the other aircraft was right where I expected him to be with about the same fidelity.

That looked pretty accurate while watching the vid. It’s not always easy to pick out other aircraft while flying.

I hope the debrief is going to be realistic. Lots of yelling and WTFs! 🤣 Crying, throwing of helmets and followed closely by beers and laughter in the bar. 🍻

C.W. Lemoine yeah. The ones that involve Special Ops and special people. 👍 Usually a 4 ship debrief would start with, who the F was in number two!!!! Bahahaha.

Amazing stuff! Mover, any chance we'll see you do some DCS stuff in other modules that you've not flown in real life? Such as Tomcat, Mirage, or perhaps some older stuff? Sabre, warbirds, etc?

I'm working on getting a new PC so I can fly dcs. But I have never flew anything other than a cesna so I was wondering if I could pay to basically train me in dcs . All the lingo and how to actually start the plane from dark just the basic stuff that I need to know or is it pretty easy to jump into dcs not knowing anything

    • @petey8155
      @petey8155 4 роки тому

A lot of the modules have training missions included that teach you startup and systems. Look up Chuck's Guides, he's written very helpful manuals for (I think) all modules except the F-16.
