When I was really young, a drummer taught me this (It's kinda the same thing as when one does a certain fingerpicking style on a guitar) - he said, try taking your strong hand (right or left) and do your high hat, in in a regular steady 1/8th note pattern, and do a Kik and snare on the 2 and 4 beats,. respectively... You have to start easy, IME (.I hope this makes sense, I could show someone easier than I can put it into words !!!) Finger drumming and Drumming is not über difficult, it just takes much dedication, coordination, and practice. It sounds like you're getting it , tho, and modern technology and "piano rolls" in DAWs can actually help A LOT, imho
