It's fascinating playing this for the first time *after* completing Breath of the Wild because it becomes clear that Skyward Sword inspired every major thing people love about Breath of the Wild. So many things this game introduced in small amounts were simply expanded or evolved in Breath of the Wild like the stamina meter, timed potions, collecting creatures to modify potions, durability mechanics, gliding around, etc. Some of those might be in older titles but this one has all of that stuff in one game and it feels like BotW was just an effort to directly expand on all of those things.
Except Breath of the Wild entire design direction was to be as different as Skyward as possible. No handholding, far more emphasis on exploration, definitely less emphasis on sprawling dungeons, much less railroading and many other things. By Skyward Sword (and you can argue Twilight Princess) the 3D formula was stale and had been ran into the ground. BoTW is the antithesis of Skyward Sword. Taking a couple of mechanics from Skyward Sword doesn't mean BoTW was trying to expand on the direction Skyward Sword was going for, it was going in a completely different direction. It just took a couple of mechanics from Skyward Sword because the devs thought it would improve the direction they were going for with BoTW.
Lol I remember I got the small quiver goddess chest after already having two fully upgraded quivers and the goddess bow and thinking to myself “thanks I guess?” Lol. Why they decided to put those items so late after their usefulness has fully waned is kind of not the greatest?

So as far as I am concerned, at this point it looks like the franchise hit its peak in 2011.
