Great video :) I've been playing it my Nintendo Switch OLED. Looks and run amazing on both docked and handheld. The switch version looks great with some blur only in the background. It run smooth at 30 fps. It's a solid B game for me.
I've been playing this game it is 2000% underrated as fuck. I feel like more people need to get in touch with larger creators and tell them to give the game a look. Because it is such a fun game it deserves more attention then it's getting.
Just not sure what I like more about the game. The brilliant twin stick platforming or the sheer personality that feels EXACTLY like something right out of the Sega Genesis
Penny's Big Breakaway is basically one of those games like Kid Icarus: Uprising and The World End With You where the controls and mechanics have a learning curve, but the games immediately become much more enjoyable once you get a handle on them. And it'd be a crime not to mention this game's absolute banger of a soundtrack.
The temporary powerups parts of this game remind me more of the combat fatigues of Rayman 3 due to their temporary nature, whereas the presence of the important platforming tool with the yoyo more so reminds me of the likes of Glover and Billy Hatcher. And parts of the yoyo's moveset remind me of Hell Pie, like with that mid-air swing. But comparisons aside, on its own merits P'sBB looks like an interesting time.\ Spark the Electric Jester 3 was a sweet time too from what i know, and the upcoming Tiny Terry's Turbo Trip by the creator of Wuppo -while more of a "mess around in a funny place" than a technically complex 3D platformer, seems to be fun as well.
I saw their development gameplay of this game and they did talk about how they pulled all kinds of games together especially with Kirby and the Forgotten land where the camera control is built on fixed like this game, but i think it does it better cause it utalizes the Right stick for the Yo-yo and it feels good to use. Another game I think works the best for very high speed platforming as well is Spark the Electric Jester 3 where it takes the idea of Sonic adventure and evolves it ten fold. Its a great time to be a platformer fan truly
I completely agree. The jury is still out on whether I prefer this gameplay over Classic Sonic or not, but that’s mostly cuz it’s hard for me to compare the two. Penny is PHENOMENAL tho in every single way, and it’s definitely one of my favorite games of all time if not my favorite flat out. Side not, I would absolutely LOVE a 3D Classic Sonic game in this style. I think all the elements for a faithful 3D Classic Sonic game are here and it could be awesome! If SEGA ever collabs with Evening Star again, that is what I’d want them to do
Galaxy 2 is a masterpiece but it's hard to say if it's better or worse than Penny because of how different the games are. which one you prefer will be based on personal preference
@@SonicAdventure2 Thats some high praise, considering Galaxy 2 is one of the highest rated games of all time. I will definitely be checking out Penny soon.
Seeing this game in action, as fun as it looks, I can't help but think "Man, imagine the fucking Sonic game we could've had on this engine if SEGA hadn't decided to go for mediocre ass Superstars instead. :(" every time. Also, no 60 fps on Switch sucks, might get it on PC at some point though.
They said during a stream where the devs played the game that they are working on a performance patch for the Switch and to stay tuned for further news on that, but they were targeting stable 30 for the initial release.
i found the artstyle for the game pretty jarring at first and immediately disliked it upon seeing the trailer. yet the more footage i see, the more charming i find it! i reminds me of the graphics from 90s and early 2000s educational kids computer games
People really need to stop using "masterpiece" or "garbage" as if they were the only superlatives out there nowadays. Come one, the game is really good and deserves some attention but that's about it
Agreed, it's no Masterpiece. There's a few issues I encountered while playing the game, but I'm having fun nonetheless. But what the Mania was able to give us is truly something worth praising
terms like masterpiece are subjective. lots of people call Sonic Mania a masterpiece or Super Mario Galaxy but I like Penny more than both of those games
@@SonicAdventure2 I do think that the statement "this is a masterpiece" should be an objective one. I mean, I freakin' love mario 3d world but masterpiece would be an overstatement for exemple. I'm not trying to fight I just don't get why people overhype every new release or treat it like hot garbage on youtube like there isn't an in-between. Have been playing the game btw and having a fun time
I highly recommend this game for any platforming lover. The gameplay is super fun and satisfying, the music is enjoyable and the level design makes it so you can tackle the stages in any way you want. Also for its price, I think it is well worth it. People are tired of spending $70-$100 for a new game that feels rushed, repetitive, or just doesn't work. With Penny's Big Breakaway I spent about $30 and what I got is a full game experience with replay-ability, great music, fun gameplay & funny minor glitches. This game is probably my favorite game of 2024. Support these devs y'all, they deserve it
It feels like with some adjustments, this could have been the 3D Sonic game we always wanted. Awesome game. Just surprised that Sega didnt have these guys do a 3D Sonic game.
“the wheelie power from Kirby Super Star Saga”… had no idea Kirby had a full fledged rpg 😂 Jokes aside, this game looks amazing. You’ve convinced me to give this one a shot!
This is a fun game with good level design, but the control really is not intuitive at all. It still needs some work done on it. I also really bloody hate the tumble that Penny does when she falls on a slope. It takes all control away from you. I also ran into my fair share of glitches too.
Great video :) I've been playing it my Nintendo Switch OLED. Looks and run amazing on both docked and handheld. I have a live stream on my channel and just uploaded a 1st impressions video today. The switch version looks great with some blur only in the background. It run smooth at 30 fps. It's a solid B game for me.
Idk I'm really not seeing the "high speed" part of this game, all I'm seeing is any sort of momentum that's achieved immediately being wasted by a 90 degree slope
If you use your dash and double jump well to skip over the slow parts you can get a really good flow of speed going but as I said in the video, for casual play there are slower platforming parts but personally I think it works well and is fun
I'm hearing such mixed reviews about this game. A lot of people are saying the exact opposite of this. I've heard the platforming is buggy and unintuitive.
"Unintuitive" is subjective. If you understand that this is a physics-based game designed around momentum, it's very intuitive. I think the people who complain about controls in this game are the same ones who say Genesis Sonic is bad because it doesn't play like Mario.
@@DrCorndog1 I agree that unintuitive isn't objective, but it isn't only an individual experience. I find it interesting that there is such a range of experiences with this game, with some people loving it and others having a lot of troubles and experiencing a lot of input issues.
As I said at the end of the video, I had trouble with the controls for the first few levels until I rechecked them in the pause menu. The tutorial stage could have been better tbh
I really want to play it, but man it looks rough. And I'm not even a graphics guy. I played Pokémon gen 9 and it looks better and this is a very low bar.
for context. I played this game on Xbox Series X. So I didn't experience any performance issues. I can't vouch for any other version of the game
Only that the Switch version plays at 30 fps.
I'm playing Switch in handheld mode and there are no issues here, either. Solid 30 fps.
@@DrCorndog1 Playing on the Steam Deck gives me the 60 fps that I love.

I'm an adult gamer who grew up with NES and Genesis, so fps means nothing to me.
Seeing this one in action doesn't do it justice. It's something you have to play.
I know, it's amazing
100000%, its carved out its own highly polished spot in the group of fantastic 3d platformers

Agreed, I need Markiplier on this. Jokes aside any UA-camr who is a platforming fan must play this on their channel
You could have said that without the tourettes
It's good to hear that the game is great. I was looking forward to this game when I found out who was working on it. Excited to play it!
Pennys big breakaway is kinda like a 3d pizza tower now that you mention it lol
Eh, not really more 3D Classic Sonic, Pizza Tower feels more boost Sonic if you had more control
