Melisandre is over 400 years old, give or take. That means she was born long before the events of House of the Dragon. Melisandre was born in the legendary eastern city of Ashai, also known as Ashai by the Shadow, which is the furthest eastern city of Essos and the furthest city we as readers (and viewers) have any information on. It's a city shrowded in mystery and secrecy. Ashai is permanently covered in darkness due to the Great Mountains of the Morne that loom over it's borders and beyond Ashai lies the Shadow Lands that stretch on endlessly in a chain of jagged mountains and valleys so high and steep that they are virtually impenetrable. The Shadow Lands are also where Daenerys dragon eggs come from according to Magister Illyrio (A close friend of Varys, and the man who gifted Daenerys the dragon eggs during her wedding ceremony to Khal Drogo in Season 1 Episode 1 and the one who arranged the marriage between Daenerys and Khal Drogo in the first place). South of Ashai lies the Southeastern Continent of Ulthos, where all the maps stop and of which we have virtually no information on. This is very, very far away from Slaver's Bay, Meereen, Bravos, Qaarth and the Dothraki Sea and so far from Westeros and the Seven Kingdoms it might as well be on another planet, a sea voyage from Westeros to Ashai roughly taking several years of non stop sailing depending on where you set sail from. The city of Ashai and all it's monuments are made entirely of a strange, smooth black stone that almost seems to absorb light and people in Ashai walk around the streets covered in masks and veils to cover their faces, although the streets are almost always empty. The city is "shady" in all senses of the word and is home to many different temples all of them worshipping the God known as R'hllor, also known as the Lord of Light in Westeros. It's also the birthplace of the myth of Azor Ahai and The Prince Who Was Promised (who Melisandre falsely believed was Stannis reborn). Ashai is also the birthplace of an ancient and extremely rare artform known as "shadowbinding" which is what we saw Melisandre perform in Season 2 with the "shadow demon baby". Shadowbinding essentially works by "binding" literal shadows to your will and turning them into antropomorphous beings that are capable of physically manifesting for short periods of time. North of Ashai lies the ruined corpse city of Stygai, where only the bravest (or dumbest) of people and the fearesome shadowbinders dare go upriver to enter it's primordial gates, as the decrepit necropolis is said to be cursed and infested with demons and other monstrosities. It is said that Stygai is the ruined capital city of an ancient civilization known as the Great Empire of the Dawn, which is allegedly the first empire of the world and it is said that they too had dragons. Some claim dragons come from the Shadow Lands and not from Old Valyria and that the people of Old Valyria once were part of the Golden Empire of the Dawn before it's destruction and they then relocated to the Valyrian Peninsula, far away from the haunted Shadow Lands. Yet as fate would have it, the Valyrians too suffered a similar fate and their empire collapsed into oblivion, leaving only the Targaryens as the sole surviving Dragonlords. But the ancient magic and history surrounding Ashai and it's sister capital Stygai remain shrowded in mystery and legend.
Wow. I was so captivated by your words. Where can this knowledge be found in? Is it in those Game of Thrones book series from George R. R. Martin? It's the fact that someone came up with a whole fictional world and characters so fleshed out and layered with complexities that has me so intrigued. I think it's super cool reading up all this lore. Now, the part where you said that the "people in Ashai walk around the streets covered in masks and veils to cover their faces", it made me think of that woman that Jorah came across who had a face mask and she seemed so wise and possibly having some magic as well because she knew about Jorah being deceitful to Dany and also that he loved her as well. My question is: do you know if this masked woman comes from Ashai? I still feel the show left a couple of things unanswered. I don't know if some of that gets answered in the show House of Dragons. Just like if we ever find out what those spirals mean where the White Walkers mark the ground with after they have killed someone and left it for others to see. The show's lore is super interesting.
@@yvetterodriguez2550 Loll thank you! I'm humbled but I can't really take any credit. All of it is 100% owed to George RR Martin's genius and yes, you can find all of this information in the books or on the A Song of Ice & Fire Wikipedia or just Google really. There are several different maps of the Game of Thrones world too on the internet that better help you locate these different places and then you can just search the different places and continents that peak your interest if you don't want to read all the books but want some added info on those mysterious areas that the show never addresses. There's also tons of videos on youtube that cover this stuff. Game of Thrones does a beautiful work at adapting the books to the TV but the books are extremely dense and detailed and it would be impractical (if not impossible) to translate all the extra content and descriptions of places, cultures, gods, peoples,, geographies and histories you'd find in the books to the silver screen. You'd probably need like 20+ seasons to cover everything. HBO's Histories and Lore videos tried to bridge the gap a little but they mostly just brush on the superficial stuff.

@@yvetterodriguez2550 Regarding the masked woman that Jorah met in Qaarth in Season 2, you are 100% correct. This woman is named Quaithe and she is indeed from Ashai, just like Melisandre and she is also a Shadowbinder. She has a much bigger role in the books but the show opted to cut her out, leaving her with a simple cameo appearance in Qaarth. In the books Quaithe appears to Daenerys in Dany's dreams multiple times, speaking to her in riddles. She tells Daenerys "Remember the dragons Daenerys...Remember who you are." Along with other even more confusing riddles like "To go West you must go East and to touch the light you must pass beneath the shadow..." Among others. It is theorized by most readers that Quaithe does this using an ancient Valyrian artefact known as a Glass Candle. These are mysterious and magical objects from the days of Old Valyria that can seemingly connect to other people's minds at a great distance and provide them with prophetic dreams and visions. A sort of long range comunication device but that can be used as a tool for manipulation through dreams and visions that people may interpret as signs of the divine.
@@yvetterodriguez2550 Some of this information can be found in the HBO's Histories and Lore videos but they really only scratch the surface. it strikes me that when Theon holds Sansa, it is the first time either has been touched with an ounce of care or tenderness in so long. Just a side comment - Thorn always had prejudice against Jon. Before the Nights Watch he was loyal to House Targyrean. After the war, instead of serving King Robert, he went to the Wall. He still harbours resentment to Robert and Ned for his fall from grace and extends that to Jon somewhat.
The Sand Snakes (Dornish Girls) were one of the worst adapted pieces from the original work, where they each had unique personalities and weren't just the same person. At least now we have some solid proof that she knows some real magic now, so-...

Cersei is one of my favourite characters in the series, especially in the books. Because her thoughts are all about that she wants to be like her father, but feels her being a woman holds her back.
Adison's positivity! Bruh it gives me STRENGTH. My favorite animal will always be Brandon cheering for the get back tho!!!
“Level zero is unlocked” - Correct!!
LMAOOO Granny put that up 🗣️
TALAPIA!!! STURGEON!!! im dead....
The Sand Snakes (Dornish Girls) were one of the worst adapted pieces from the original work, where they each had unique personalities and weren't just the same person.
At least now we have some solid proof that she knows some real magic now, so-...

Ramsay was right. If you think this has a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention. Luckily for you two, yall still have 2 seasons left before the ending.
30:04 I couldn’t stop laughing haha
Damn I’m caught up I started yall season one last week on Wednesday
Whole thing, that scene shows just how powerful she really is...and she admitted to misreading. She is one of the most powerful beings in the series.
So think you was about to say Snow White after Maleficent though lol.
Check out Brandon with his 90s Pistons jersey on. And I'm from Detroit Represent 🎉❤ love you guys ❤️. I don't comment because I know too much but I always watch because your comments about my favorite show is interesting.
Shout out to Detroit!! Appreciate you not spoiling us😁 -Brandon
I had to screenshot that Melisandre scene. So funny.
i never ONCE disobeyed an order. He never specifically ordered me not to kill him!!!
Your references were hilarious
Why are a lot of the parts in the show have a line going through the middle of the screen cutting the screen in half and started on the other side of the screen? (8:58..)🤷🏽♂️
I can’t wait to workout and watch this later!
"2BC?"... "There we go"... Jeez these boys are funny. 😂
Cersei is one of my favourite characters in the series, especially in the books. Because her thoughts are all about that she wants to be like her father, but feels her being a woman holds her back. She can't use strength, so she doubles down on ferocity. Cersei's biggest fault is she's paranoid af, if she didnt have that, she'd be a great lioness
Ramsey legit just being practical here though. meat is meat we got animals to feed..
Aye I’m fckin with y’all hard now I was skeptical at first
My only regret is that I Just discovered this a week ago 😭
Remember when Tyrone told her one day her joy will turn into ashes in her mouth??? Boiii 😮💨
It's going to be into February or March before these game of thrones reactions are done on this channel.
